Chapter 9 Joseph Gets Angry

1124 Words
This wasn't the first time Ada had seen Joseph angry, but today he seemed more enraged than ever before. His fury was palpable, as if smoke was billowing out of his ears. Why was Joseph so angry? Was it because of the divorce? Or did he suspect that she was hiding someone and betraying him, just like he had done? Joseph remained silent, leaning back on the sofa while his eyes darted towards Ada. With bloodshot eyes, he looked almost pitiable, like a wounded rabbit. "Why did you suddenly bring up divorce?" He questioned, his tone now a stark contrast to his earlier outburst. Ada could barely contain her laughter. She covered her neck and sat up, mustering her strength to reply, "Joseph, haven't you always yearned for a divorce so you could openly be with Isabella? I'm granting your wish now, but it seems you're not willing?" "I'm asking why you want a divorce!" Joseph repeated, his tone growing more serious. "Why? I'm tired of this marriage. I don't love you anymore, and I don't want to be Isabella's blood bank anymore. Is that enough?" Ada's eyes were bloodshot, perhaps from crying earlier. She stared fearlessly at Joseph, as if trying to see through his skin and into his heart. How come she couldn't warm it up after four years of trying? Ada chuckled self-deprecatingly, "If you think these reasons aren't enough, then believe whatever you want." Joseph's mind was full of dirty thoughts. What else could he think? He suspected that Ada was cheating on him. Otherwise, why would she suddenly stop loving him? Although he didn't care about her feelings for him, he knew how much he meant to her. Now that she said she didn't love him anymore, his heart felt empty, as if he had lost something. Joseph's eyes were dark and fierce. His anger flared up again, and he grabbed Ada's collar and threw her to the ground. "Ada, it seems that when I was not at home, you had a lot of thoughts. The divorce is fake, and hiding some people are real. I think the lawyer who came today is one of them. After all, a b***h like you is probably not satisfied with one single person. “He looked down at her with a look of insult in his eyes. Ada almost vomited the milk she drank in the morning when she was thrown to the ground. She was gentle, but not submissive. Joseph's words made her angry, and the breath she held almost crushed her chest bone. "You're right. I'm seeing someone else!" Ada gritted her teeth and sneered, "What? You can have someone else, but I can't?" Joseph slapped her hard without giving her any chance to react. The slap made Ada dizzy, and her ears rang. "Do you dare say it again!" Joseph's slap shattered all of Ada's illusions. She wiped the blood from the corner of her mouth and closed her eyes. She really didn't want to waste any more of her life on Joseph. "Joseph, four years is long enough. I can't wait anymore." Her words were like those of a dying person. Joseph didn't understand. He stared at her for a while before saying sarcastically, "You forced me to marry you back then, and now you want a divorce. There's no such good thing in the world!" Ada found it funny. "Don't worry, I'll give you your fair share of the divorce settlement. I won't let you lose out." Did he care about her divorce settlement? The Jones Group's daily profit was probably many times higher than the Smith families. Even if Ada handed over the entire Smith family to him, he wouldn't even spare a glance. Besides, what he wanted was always taken by force, not given by others. Joseph sneered and tore off Ada's clothes again. "What are you going to do?" Ada knew what was going to happen next. Joseph lowered his head to kiss Ada's neck, biting her hair. Ada gasped and tears streamed down her face. She tried to kick him, but he pinned her to the ground. Joseph chuckled and said, "You're making such a fuss just because you want me to stay with you, right?" Ada resisted, "who said I'm making a fuss? I called you back to get a divorce." Joseph didn't like her mentioning the word "divorce" and covered her mouth with his. Ada couldn't stop crying and bit Joseph's mouth, filling it with a bloody taste. Joseph frowned but didn't let go. Ada felt nauseous from the blood in her mouth and was afraid of vomiting. Joseph didn't notice her discomfort; all he could think about was that Ada had someone else outside! He was like a wild beast, wanting to tear this damn woman apart. He had never been kind to Ada, and her tears only made him angrier, like a demon crawling out of hell. Compared to half a month ago, Ada had lost a lot of weight. Her slender waist seemed fragile, but she remained a perfect shape. Even if she were nothing but bones, her stunning beauty would not be affected. Ada suffered from stomach pain and trembled all over, leaning on Joseph's shoulder and coughing up cold sweat. A drop of blood dripped from the corner of her mouth onto Joseph's black suit, but he didn't notice. Ada opened her blurry eyes and tremblingly wiped it away. Joseph tenderly brushed through Ada's disheveled hair, then gripped her chin, his voice icy as he asked, "Is that enough? Do you still want other men?" Ada's eyes welled up with tears, their moistness reflecting a vacant and bewildered expression. It seemed like she hadn't fully comprehended Joseph's words. Joseph gently traced her eyebrows and eyes, his deep black irises containing something that was fading away. "Don't entertain any inappropriate thoughts from now on," he warned. "Joseph, whose thoughts are more, mine or yours?" Ada asked, sobbing and in pain. "Don't you like Isabella very much? Then divorce me and give her a legal status! Or have you fallen in love with me?" Joseph's mocking tone hit Ada like a punch to the gut. "Divorce you? Just because of your stupid blood condition? Don't flatter yourself, I don't give a damn about you after a few flings," he spat out. In that instant, Ada's heart shattered into a million pieces. She had held onto their marriage tightly, treasuring every moment. But Joseph had ripped apart their sixteen years of memories and trampled on her heart without mercy. The reluctance she once felt to let go vanished instantly, replaced by an urgent need to divorce Joseph as soon as humanly possible. She didn't need him to survive anymore.
