The universe might not have a good sense of humor, but it often had a cruel sense of humor. Jia accepted that now that she was doing nothing important.
Hurry up and wait was the unofficial motto of the military. Jia had heard Erik say that on more than one occasion, but she’d never felt it more keenly than since their arrival at Penglai. They’d flown a week on orders to test their cannon, just to be told to dock and take on necessary supplies. Despite their orders, the base commander told them to stand by, insisting it’d take two to three days to be ready and that there were other unnamed considerations.
