Chapter Twenty-Four
When Emma requested that Erik and Jia retreat to their cabin for a private discussion, Erik had thought Jia found the ring and was going to question him about it. When he stepped inside and saw the concerned looks on both their faces, he knew this wasn’t about questionable proposal timing.
“What’s wrong?” Erik asked.
“I was wondering,” Emma began, “how you would feel about a temporary job as a delivery boy?”
Erik whistled. “I think Ilse is right to be suspicious. She’s a good scientist, but I have a hard time believing she’s managed to do all this under the DD’s nose when we know they’re watching her and looking for an excuse to lock her up.”
