Chapter 4

Sam’s POV “The devil made me do it” was your mantra growing up and today was no different. Sam:  Kyle, get Saul on the phone, please. Kyle:  Yes, sir, Mr. Waters. Sam:  And call me Sam please. Kyle:  Sure, boss. Sam (on phone):  Saul, I have got a problem with the video cameras you hid at Mimi’s place.  They don’t cover the bathroom. Saul:  Told you, boss man, we can’t put them up anywhere she might be naked or both of us could serve jail time if they are discovered. Sam:  I know, but it looks like she bought a pregnancy test last night and I really need to know what the results are. Saul:  I’ll head over and snap a picture of the results after she heads to work. Sam:  Have I told you lately that you’re my favorite employee? Kyle clears his throat from the doorway. Sam:  Gotta go, Kyle’s jealous you took my #1 spot.  Let me know what you find out. Hanging up you turn your full attention to Kyle. Sam:  Kyle, don’t pout, you’re my favorite PA. Kyle:  I’m your only PA, boss. Sam:  See, no competition.  What’s up? Kyle:  This just arrived by special courier from “that law firm”. You shake your head in disbelief. Sam:  Dang it to hell and back.  Who is this freaking silent partner?  And why won’t they stay silent and let me just run the business? Kyle:  No clue, boss, but they do have a good point about overworking Miss Hansen. After your PA handed you the list from the “silent” partner’s law firm.  Instead of a long list of frivolous demands there are only two items.  You take the list and scan it.  Your eyes widen in horror at #2.   You reread the second item over and over again in fear. Sam:  Is Miss Hansen okay from her attack?  Why wasn’t I informed of it last night? Kyle:  Seeing it on the list was the first time I found out about it, too.  I called over and Marissa said that Miss Hansen kicked Mr. Jacobs butt.  Several employees said that this wasn’t the first time Mr. Jacobs tried to grab her.  Normally, she would have just avoided him, but she was too worn out yesterday from teaching so many classes in one day. Sam:  Why didn’t Saul say anything when we talked earlier? Kyle:  No clue, guess that makes me #1 on the favorite list again? Sam:  The jury is still out.  Tell me, how are we coming with finding a replacement teacher for her? Kyle:  It’s not easy finding someone with her qualifications.  We have interviewed many of her students/clients who take her class and they all say they would follow her to whatever gym she goes to, taking their money and memberships with them.  A few even said that they would invest if she started a new gym on her own. Sam:  Not good.  Change the schedule so that she teaches 5 classes every other day and 3 or 4 on the in between days.  And renew the search for a new teacher or another one to begin taking over.  I’ve got to get her in a place where she is desperate and I can swoop in and save her like I did in the 4th grade.                                                                                     Flashback You see Tommy Grubbs grabbing her hair and pushing her down to the ground again.  Rushing over you sock him in the jaw and knock him to the ground with a solid hit. Sam:  I warned you before – Leave her alone, Tommy! Reaching your hand down you help Mimi to her feet and wrap your arms around her as she cries into your chest. Sam:  I’m going to marry you so people like Tommy will leave you alone forever, Mimi. Mimi (Sob):  Ok, Sammy, I want to be your wife forever and always. Your young heart soars with love for her as you begin to walk her home. Sam (Running inside your house):  Mom, I’m getting married! Mrs. Waters:  Who’s the lucky girl?  (She asks while hiding a knowing smile.) Sam:  Mimi, of course.  Can we have the wedding this weekend on Saturday? Mrs. Waters:  I don’t see a problem, kiddo.  I’ll even make a cake and your dad can perform the ceremony. Sam:  You are the best, mom.  Gotta go tell Charles, need a best man and all that. You run outside and swing yourself over the low fence to your best friend’s house.  You tell him your plan and he’s down with it, so it’s all set.  You run over to find Mr. Hansen, who is working in his garage on his favorite car. Sam:  Mr. Hansen, sir. May I have your permission to Mimi’s hand marriage this Saturday at 11a? Mr. Hansen:  You have my permission to take her hand in marriage if it’s okay with her.  Is your dad going to perform the ceremony for you? Sam:  Yes, sir, and Mom’s making a cake.  (You say happily, you love cake.) Mr. Hansen:  Well, then how about Mimi’s Mom and I make BBQ hot dogs and burgers for the reception and we can have it in our backyard? Sam:  That would be beyond awesome, sir, you make the best BBQ in town.  Is Mimi inside? Mr.  Hansen:  No, her mom took her to the store as soon as she got home from school.  They shouldn’t be gone long, just an hour or so. Sam:   Oh, ok, I got to go but could you let Mimi know she will need a Maid of Honor for our wedding.  I already have my best man. Mr. Hansen:  Sure, son, I will let her know as soon as she gets home. Sam:  Thank you sir, see you on Saturday at 11a. Mr.  Hansen:  You sure will, I’ll be the one walking Mimi down the aisle to you. It seems like forever to your mind, but finally Saturday comes and just like your dad does weddings for your church, he is ready to marry you to the love of your life, Mimi.  You all take your places and your mom is set to play the “Wedding March”.  You look to see your best friend, Charles, walk Mrs. Hansen to her seat and then move to your side, just like you practiced.  Your mom begins playing and Becky, Mimi’s best friend walks quickly down to her spot, but your eyes are glued to your bride as she walks slowly toward you on the arm of her father. Sam:  She’s so pretty. Comes the quick thought and now she’s standing right beside you as her father places her hand into yours at the “altar”. Rev. Waters:  Who gives this “woman” to be wed to this “man”? Mr. Hansen:  Her mother and I do. He shakes your hand and gives Mimi a quick kiss before taking his seat next to his wife.  Your dad begins going on about marriage like he does at church and then you get to say your vows and exchange rings.  She found yours in her cereal box and it whistles.  Oh, yeah, she totally gets you.  Now it’s time for the kiss.  Your heart pounds so loudly in your chest you are sure everyone there can hear it as you lean in and brush your lips against her cheek. Rev. Waters:  It is my pleasure to introduce for the first time, Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Waters. Afterwards you take hands and run over to her backyard for hot dogs, burgers and CAKE, you pull her in for a quick hug. Sam:  No one will ever hurt you again.  I’ll always protect you.                                                                              End of flashback
