I Forgot

"Oh my God, I forgot all about that!"  I exclaimed covering my mouth with a hand. "Forgot what, love?"  Alexandre looked with confusion from me to the cops. "They had questions or something, right?"  I asked and the older cop nodded his head.  "Oh my God, I'm so sorry, I got so wrapped up in things, well they call it pregnancy brain for a reason I guess."  I laughed lightly and Alexandre looked at me suspiciously out of the corner of his eye. "Gentlemen, how about we go down to the kitchen to talk?  That way we can all sit down and be more comfortable."  Alexandre offered and the cops agreed.  Alexandre was still a little slow, the damage internally made him move more cautiously, and the older cop took note of it as we walked down the stairs. "Your fiance said you were ill?"  The cop asked and Alexandre nodded.  "Terrible chest cold.  Still get a bit winded and sore from all the coughing.  I apologize for slowing you up."  Alexandre replied a little breathlessly.  I knew he was playing it up for the cops, but damn, he made me want to coddle him.  The cop nodded. "Seems to be going around, it's that time of year..."  He responded to Alexandre.  When we made it to the kitchen, I helped Alexandre to a chair and then offered the cops drinks, but they refused, so I sat down by Alexandre's side and squeezed his hand under the table. "If I may ask...what is this all about sir?"  Alexandre requested politely, huffing slightly as if out of breath. "I'll get right tot he point."  The older cop said.  "Were you aware that the serial killer that tried to kill your..  fiance, was it?  Has been found and arrested?  She was attacked badly, and left in an abandoned clinic.  However, an anonymous person phoned in her location from an untraceable cellphone.  Now, here's where it gets odd.  All she said when we picked her up was 'Carys'-you name.  She seems to be insinuating that you are the one who attacked her."  He looked pointedly at me and I looked shocked and then giggled and pointed at my stomach. "That might have been a little difficult in my current condition..."  I offered. "And besides that, we have not left this house, which you should very well know.  Those are your men at the gate, correct?"  Alexandre remarked. "Right, that's where things get crazy, because they've been here the whole time, and nobody's left."  The young cop blurted and was shot a look by his superior. "However, the men did report a different car arriving a few days after the incident, one with blacked out windows.  That was, of course, before we knew what had happened.  It was sitting in front of the house the last time we visited."  The older cop continued. "I'm afraid that was my arrival they noted."  Cornelius explained, stepping into the room.  "My apologies, Alexandre, I just came for a beverage."  He licked his lips eyeing the cops with a wry grin. "Please, help yourself."  Alexandre gestured at the refrigerator, but his gesture encompassed the cops and Cornelius smirked, walking behind them to pull a soda from the fridge that he opened with a loud snap.  The young cop jumped and Cornelius' smirk grew wider as he walked out of the room, slurping loudly. "What's up with that guy?"  The young cop asked confidentially. "Creepy right?"  I replied and rolled my eyes towards Alexandre, who offered a shrug. "Old family friend."  He explained weakly. "Right, so back to business.  At this point in time, we can't get any other information from her, but the scene was destroyed and there was quite a bit of blood.  And this is where things get even weirder.  Some of the blood isn't even human, but we don't know what it is.  And when we asked Fran, or The Nurse, as you would know her, about it, she just cackled and said something about a guard dog.  But the blood doesn't belong to any dog we know.  So we asked her more about it and she said her boyfriend killed your guard-dog Miss.  Does any of this make any sense to you?"  The cop continued. "If I may, it sounds like she's slightly obsessed with my fiance.  There were missing persons alerts out for her, perhaps she saw one and became obsessed with the idea that Carys might have escaped."  Suggested Alexandre. "It's certainly an idea."  The cop stated, but he looked dubious.  "Regardless of how crazy this all sounds, we still had to ask you, you know?  And there's one more thing.  Whoever did this to our serial killer might have forgotten.  The boyfriend has seen their face and maybe more.  They may not be safe.  So if they know anything it would be in the best interests of said person to let us know."  The cop looked at us hard.  I looked at Alexandre.  He smiled slightly at the cop. "We understand."  He replied, "But you are free to ask Cornelius, I called him weeks ago to ask him for a visit.  Why would I do that and then leave my house?"  The cop harrumphed.  I leaned against Alexandre's shoulder as the cop continued to try to pry information from us.  When he finally gave up the younger cop stopped at the door. "Honestly, whoever got to her, they're probably not gonna pursue it too much, they're too busy building a case against her and she seems nuts.  There were so many damn fingerprints at the seen they couldn't even get a clean one.  Seems her attacker did us a favor in the end by catching her."  He shrugged and then they were gone.   I smacked Alexandre's arm hard as soon as the door shut and he yelped. "What was that for?"  He looked at me accusingly. "Those damn cellphones.  Boy, I called the police, how likely are they to trace it back to us?"  I chewed my lip nervously and he laughed, kissing me gently. "Let's just say that our phones have better security than the President's and I actually already had Cornelius destroy our old ones.  New phones should be here soon."  Alexandre responded. "That still doesn't reassure me!"  I hissed.  "You're the one who is always complaining about cameras everywhere and things.  Have you forgotten cell phones are worse?"  I plucked at my lower lip with my fingers nervously and Alexandre grabbed my hand. "That's exactly why I have those things custom made.  You never know when you may need to disappear."  Alexandre reassured me.  "Now don't worry too much about it."  He kissed me and his eyes twinkled.  "Weren't we in the middle of something when these cops arrived?"  I swatted him on the shoulder. "Men.  One-track minds, all of you.  And I think vampire men have got to be the worst about it."  I rolled my eyes. "Hey, don't forget I keep offering too."  Cornelius stated, walking into the foyer. "Yes, but who are you propositioning?"  Alexandre asked with a smirk. "Either of you.  Both.  Whatever."  Cornelius replied and Alexandre laughed. "You never give up, do you?"  He teased and grabbed me tightly in his arms.  Cornelius eyed the move with interest. "I told you that endorphin and pheromone scent was powerful."  Cornelius grinned lasciviously. "Oh my God, I'm out of here, right now.  You two play with your hormones.  The baby and I are going for a nap."  I threw my hands in the air and tried to escape Alexandre's grip on me.  He growled lightly. "You overheard..."  Alexandre remarked. "Yes, and I'll back your story.  Between the three of us, I don't think the police would pose too much of a threat, but since I'm here now, you and I together should be able to exert enough influence to divert any unwanted attention.  Though I am curious, what exactly did you do, Carys?"  Cornelius' gaze pinned me in place in Alexandre's arms.  I gulped. "I uh..sort of caught up with my killer and may have left her gift-wrapped for the police."  I offered, feeling that invisible pressure Cornelius seemed able to exert.  Cornelius' gaze flipped to Alexandre swiftly.  Based on the way his body moved I could tell he shook his head.  I could almost hear 'a story for another time' being transmitted wordlessly.  I smiled wryly. "Interesting..."  Cornelius commented and I felt his scrutiny again.  I blushed. "Ok, I feel like a bug under glass here.  Alexandre, unhand me, you fiend, why are you clinging to me all of a sudden?"  I blurted. "Because you're mine."  He growled low in my ear and I blushed harder. "Tch, and we used to share everything."  Cornelius sniffed. "Hey, doesn't the lady get an opinion here?"  I interjected angrily and felt both pairs of eyes center on me.  Alexandre let me go and turned me slightly so he could see my expression. "And what is your opinion?'  He purred.  It was almost a growl and I felt the blood rush to my face again. "That...I'm going to take a nap."  I replied, frustrated and bolted before he could grab me again.  I heard Cornelius chuckle behind me and Alexandre's low growl.  I shut the bedroom door and kicked off my shoes, collapsing on the bed with a sigh.  It felt nice to let my back relax.  The baby moved gently and I placed a hand on the bump reassuringly.  Alexandre ghosted in a few minutes later as I was drowsing. "I thought you wanted a back rub."  He purred, sliding into bed behind me and wrapping his arms around my waist. "I thought you and your lover were deciding who he sleeps with first."  I retorted sleepily and Alexandre chuckled. "Ex-lover dear, ex-lover.  You're my only lover now."  He kissed my neck softly. "Well, you know, I would kinda understand if you felt like renewing old relations since I'm in this state."  I said mildly, gesturing at my stomach.  Alexandre growled and clutched me against him. "I'm the one who put you in this state, what makes you think you're any less beautiful now than before?  If anything, it just makes me all the more wildly attracted to you because this..."  He squeezed my chest, drawing my back against him closer,  "...and this...."  He placed a hand on my swollen abdomen  "...are mine."  He growled against my neck.
