Fateful Encounters

*Elena's point of view* I hear footsteps and yelling. A woman screams and grunts behind a door I can not open. It's dark and cold. There's blood everywhere, but where is it coming from? I turn around, but only darkness awaits me. "Elena. Please." There's a whisper in my right ear. I turn around, but no one's there. A trembling voice echoes through my head. "Elena, you must run. Take her... Take her and GO! NOW!" I look down and see a crying child in my arms. I suddenly hear a menacing growl. I look up and I'm frozen in place. Don't turn around. He's there. I hold my breath and in an instant, a sharp pain pierces through my chest. --- I awaken from my nightmare, panting and sweating. I put my hand on my chest trying to calm my heart down. My eyes flicker around the room. I see my desk with books clustered on it against the wall by the door, a half full laundry basket in the corner, my closet, dresser and my little nightstand with a picture from last year. I pick it up. It's me and little Maya at her 5th birthday, I had cake all over my mouth and gave her a big kiss as she was laughing. I chuckle to myself every time I see this. It always helps calm me down after the nightmares. After all these years, I still can't seem to shake the worst of them? I give a big stretch and look at the alarm. *5:43 am* We'll, slept better than last time I suppose. I'll take that. I get up and start my routine. The morning stretches, followed by some quick work outs to get the blood flowing at least. I head to the bathroom and quickly brush my teeth then tip toe through the house as to not wake the others. Grandma really doesn't like to be woken up so early and I would rather not see her cranky again. I check in on Maya real quick before heading out and see that she is sleeping on her side hugging Miss Purry, her pink and orange stuffed animal cat that's almost as big as her. Before it was huge compared to her, but after 3 years since she got it she is taller than it now. Man do they grow up fast. I head to the back door and quietly close it. It's time for the morning run, so I head out to the woods and begin my shift. My wolf is fairly bigger than others. My fur is mostly white with tints of orange and brown. Sometimes in the sun it shimmers red for a second. And I have these big hazel eyes. At the moment, they are a deep green with a little bit of amber in them. I haven't heard from my wolf Ivy in some time. Ever since I rejected Oliver 2 years ago, she has been so quiet. Man, f**k Oliver. That arrogant ass won't even break our bond, but tells everyone that I am still holding on. I shake my head to get rid of the thoughts and go for a run. "Ivy, are you going to talk to me today?" ... "Please? Come on, I know you love a good run. The woods is always calming for you." I insisted. "... How would you know?" A faint whisper echos Yes, progress. I can sometimes get yes or no responses from her. But, she really doesn't like to talk. I know she is still hurting and I understand. But it had to be done. "Because your my wolf. Of course I know that." I chuckle. ... No response. We'll better than nothing. After about an hour and a half I finish up my run and head back to the house. A little past 8 am now, so Grandma should be up watching her shows. It being the summer time, I don't have to worry about getting Maya to and from school. I head to my room to change into my black leggings and my spandex long sleeve jacket I got from Goodwill. It's black with a hot pink stripe on both of my sides. Honestly, I like that it at least hugs me in all the right places, plus it comfortable. I put my tennis shoes on and pull my dark brown hair up in high ponytail. I head straight for the kitchen and get started on some pancakes. I pull out the bowls, ingredients and get to mixing. I grab some syrup, strawberries and blueberries from the fridge and some chocolate chips from the cabinet. The door to Maya's room opens and I hear a big yawn come from the hallway. "Mmmm. Is that pancakes I smell?!" Maya's eyes widens when she gets a whiff of the fragant air. "Coming right up Little Miss." I toss a few chocolate chips into two small pancakes, give them a flip and on they go to the plate. "Your breakfast Madam." Maya giggles. She grabs the bottle of syrup and pours it on her pancakes. I take a plate to Grandma with some blueberries on the side, as she likes them, and give her a kiss before grabbing my bag and heading for the door. "You're leaving already?" Maya turns in her chair in disappointment. "I'm sorry. The pack has some training to do by the borders today. I can't be late. But I promise to call okay. Stay close to the phone." I tussle her dirty blonde hair a few times, give a few kisses on her cheek and one for Miss Purry on her head and head out. "Grandma call if you need anything, okay?" "Alright deary. You best be stayin safe out there." My grandma says not looking away from her morning show. I get into my beat up truck and head out to the outpost by the border we are training at today. *35 minutes later* I arrive and see about 15 people are already waiting. Most crowding around Oliver, your typical run of the mill blonde who thinks any girl wants to suck his d**k if she looked in his direction. But, he tries to play the nice, innocent victim to them. Honestly, makes me sick. He stares me down as I walk up. I stare straight ahead of me and honestly, I'm hoping that if I look mad they might leave me alone. I wasn't in the mood to deal with them today. "Ahem. Aren't you going to greet your Alpha?" Oliver asks sarcastically I stop, turn and with a stone cold expression of my face and say, "Greetings" then turn and continue my path. Obviously not impressed by anything I do, he proceeds to spit in my direction, "I can't believe I'm fated to you. Why can't you just let me go?" I can't let him go? He begged and cried and pleaded for me not to reject him. He still refuses to break our bond, hence why I am still feel trapped. If it wasn't for him, Abby would still be here. She was the only friend who actually gave a damn. She was like a sister. A pain in my chest starts to spur as I hear his groupies spit insults at me via mind link. Had he not blackmailed me, I would have ripped his heart out by now. I steel my resolve and wear my icy look as we gather around for the meeting. Oliver starts to give his big, long speech to show how "Alpha" he is. But, let's be real, he just wants us out here so he can talk to his friends away from the adults. He's not here to be a leader or anything. He just wants people to stroke his ego. "Alright, follow my lead." He says while taking off into the woods to start the lap. We all begin the run and I trail behind on purpose to avoid outpacing anyone. I noticed a girl having a hard time behind me and slowed my pace to her speed. She has orangish hair in a ponytail, with a few bangs hanging down in front. From the looks of her she seems to be 18, maybe? She looks over to me, "Hello. My name is Phoebe. I see you around a lot, but you don't talk to anyone. I'm surprised you are back here with me." I simply say, while still looking ahead, "Elena." To be honest, I'm not here to make friends, I just want to make sure my sister stays safe is all. "Oh, yeah. I know. We'll you probably know me anyways. But you know. How long have you been here? How's your family? What kind of breakfast--" I notice something off and hushed her. Someone, no there's more than one. About 10, 15 maybe? I can sense their presence approaching us fast. There's a clearing up a head, which leads to a road that splits up the surrounding territories. I pick up my pace and shout to the front, "Intruders! Approaching fast on all sides!" "Shut up back there! You are interrupting my story!" Oliver says For f**k's sake. I roll my eyes and look back to see Phoebe unaware of the pouncing wolf behind her. In an instant, I shove her to the side and dodge the oncoming attack. The group realizes something is amiss and stops. Then all of a sudden, we are surrounded. I get in my battle stance as Phoebe gets behind me. The wolves circle us and our backs are to eachother. "WHAT IS THIS? WHAT IS GOING ON?!" Oliver starts panicking and trying to get into the center of the group. Suddenly, the wolves stop and we hear a voice coming from the clearing. A tall, slim, but well built man approaches from a set of cars parked behind him. His medium brown hair is slicked back all the way and he takes his glasses off. I try and move closer and peek over the shoulders of my pack members to see this man. "My name is Liam. I'm the Beta of the Scarlet Eclipse Pack. I suggest you surrender peacefully. Or this could get.. rather bloody. Our Alpha is here to claim this territory and here we have a novice of a pack leader not taking any precautions as to what risks being so far out here can occur." Liam chuckles to himself. All of a sudden, a car door opens and I immediately look down. There are murmurs all around as everyone feels an intense presence. But, that's not how I would describe it. I close my eyes to try to keep myself from looking up. But, the seductive smells overpowers my senses. It's all I can focus on now. It's so rich, yet has such a billowy scent. Is that cedarwood? Why is my mind going crazy? I'm trying so hard not to pant heavily and keep myself under control. Don't look up Ellie. Don't. But, I can't resist and I take a peek through the shoulders of the pack members and see him. Our eyes meet and my mind only thinks of one word. Mate
