Alexander
I wasn’t sure what had happened, but I did know that our lives would never be the same again. The mating call had been so strong, it was a wonder it left us standing. It wasn’t like I was expecting at all; it had been almost violent. Fated mates amongst our kind wasn’t unheard of but it was pretty rare. Sirens mated for power not love, and they NEVER mated with humans. We were too rare a species to dilute our blood lines like that, until now that was. It was like some epic cosmic joke; we were the only alpha bonded pair without a mate in the world. Hot property in our world to other sirens and the more common shifters alike. Snagging us as mates was like winning the lottery but in all honesty, I wasn’t actually that surprised. Id felt her pull as soon as I had scented her, it had torn something inside of me when I first laid eyes on her, unconscious and bleeding. I should have known and now? Now I couldn’t keep my eyes off of her.
I would do anything to make her happy, anything to protect her, anything to make her mine. Ours. I had to correct myself. She would never just be mine; she was ours. My brother and me. Glancing up at Julian I could see the same uncertainty in his brown eyes. He had no idea how this would work either, and we had to make it work otherwise we would lose her.
She was so god damn sweet standing there sandwiched between us, her hand trembling around the champagne flute in her hand. She looked perfect, amongst the lights, her dress catching the colors and making her glow, but She was nervous, her breathing a little too quick, making her breasts rise against the low neckline of her dress. And what a dress it was, Julian had made an excellent choice. She looked like an old Hollywood movie star, but I didn’t like seeing her nervous, I wanted her to be comfortable always. To know she could rely on us to protect her even if it was just to shield her from the prying eyes of an industry party. And there were many eyes glancing her way. Men smiled; women glared. Jealousy was thick in the air, thicker than cigar smoke.
There would be so much gossip. Julian and Alexander with a girl at a party? It was unheard of. It would no doubt make the morning press. We never brought dates to these things. People would be going crazy to find out who she was and that made me crazy. She was ours; I couldn’t stand the thought of her name on their lips.
Julian stepped closer to her, the arm of his suit brushing her bare one at the same time I placed my hand on the small of her back. I saw his hand reach for hers, his finger rubbing small comforting circles on the back of her hand. She flashed us a grateful smile and my heart melted. This was how it was meant to be, us three together bringing comfort to each other.
We were on the same page alright, as in tune as we always were. Both of us trying to calm her nerves. I brushed a stray curl away from her ear and bent to whisper to her. Speaking maybe a little too loudly over the music but I wanted her to be able to hear me, and more importantly believe me. “You look beautiful Hannah; you are the most beautiful woman in this room” and the world I added silently.
She blushed but a small smile pulled at the corners of her mouth. “Thank you”
Jesus, I liked her mouth, images flashed in my mind. Images of me kissing her right here in front of everyone smearing that deep red lipstick from her lips. I grinned over her head at my brother who grinned back. He knew what I was thinking, I had projected it loud and clear.
“Why are people staring at me?” Hannah’s voice was so quiet, it was barely audible.
“Because you are the most beautiful woman in the room, and Alexander was a little too loud in his compliments” Julian’s voice was hard, but not in his usual gruff way. It was just a voice that wouldn’t be argued with. Heads turned, and stares became more hostile. I felt Hannah shrink back even more as his words registered in the women around us.
“Alex, Julian” A deep voice bellowed out. Turning my head, I groaned inwardly but plastered my best widest smile on my face. My work smiles. “Geoffrey” I held out my hand, hating the feel of his smaller sweaty one in mine, hating even more the way his eyes rested a little too long on my mates breasts. The disgusting human actually licked his lips. I could hear Julian behind me loudly clearing his throat to cover the growling sound I knew he had made. It was the same growl I was currently choking on.
“I was going to come over here and talk business but…”
I frowned, if he licked his lips whilst looking at her one more time, I wasn’t sure I would be able to control my temper. I forced my hand to unclench.
“But now I just want to be introduced to your lovely friend, business can wait” He was leering, actually leering holding out a sweaty hand and I had to hold myself back when she took it, shaking it firmly. A defiant look in her eyes as she stared up into his face. Daring him to check out her breasts again. There was my girl, defiant as ever. I had to smile at her. “I’m Geoffrey, I work with our boys here”
“Hannah” She nodded before firmly extracting her hand. Wiping it subconsciously on her thigh.
“Hannah is our guest for the night” Julian’s voice was hard, he sounded more like his usual self. Cold as ice. I saw his fingers curl firmly round hers, saw her squeeze back and was glad. Glad that she found some reassurance from my grumpy ass brother,
“You will have to let me know what agency you used”
My eyebrows shot up. “Agency?”
The fool winked, actually winked at me. My hand curled into a fist again. Was he actually presuming that Hannah, my Hannah was a prostitute?
“Geoffrey, I think you must be mistaken, Hannah is obviously a very dear friend of the boys”
Lyla, I had to smile as I recognized her lilting tone. As always, she looked flawless, a wide smile on her face as she airs kissed Hannah on both cheeks. Leaving the smaller woman standing mute, pretty red mouth half open in shock “You really are a picture aren’t you, I’m Lyla and if the gossip in the room is anything to go by you must be Hannah”
My hand slipped from Hannah’s back, as Lyla enveloped me in a hug, kissing my cheek firmly, she repeated the process with Julian. “Any friend of the twins is a friend of mine”
Was it my imagination or did Hannah look jealous. It flashed over her features for a second, darkening her eyes. Was she jealous of Lyla? The whole idea was ludicrous but at the same time I kind of liked it. Julian grabbed at her hand again, pulling her firmly to his side with a smile that was just for her. And I frowned. I had been so happy to see the jealousy in her face that I had forgotten that she would need reassuring, that it was part of my job as her mate to make sure she never felt jealous of any woman.
“Dance with me?”
As I watched my brother lead Hannah on to the dance floor, I had to marvel at how well he was taking this whole mating a human thing. I had expected anger. Rage even. But it seemed Hannah brought out a different side to him, a softer side. We would have to talk privately of course before we made it official, hell before we even spoke to Hannah. And we would have to talk about what would happen if we couldn’t make it official, which didn’t even bare thinking about.
“You look deep in thought”
I turned when Lyla touched my arm. Shaking it off as subtly as I could. I wouldn’t be the reason Hannah felt jealousy, I would give her no reason to doubt me or my feelings for her. Lyla followed my stare, her face perfectly blank as she watched my brother dance with our mate. “Your friend is very beautiful”
I nodded, speechless. Yes, she was beautiful, that was about as obvious as saying the sun was hor.
“You both seem to be very fond of her, protective even. I love how you take all the waifs and strays under your wing” She winked. “Just like a big brother”
“That isn’t the relationship we want with her”
I was so busy staring at the way my brother pressed her body into his and wishing it was me that I missed the shocked look on Lyla’s face, how it hardened.
Hannah
It was hard to concentrate on anything, but the feel of Julian’s rock-hard body pressed up against mine as he moved me expertly around the small dance floor, his hand firm on the small of my back making it easy for me to follow his lead. He moved seamlessly for such a big man, graceful. And I felt like cinderella at the ball. Except I wasn’t sure the prince, pulled his princess to him quite this firmly in any of the fairy tales I had ever read. I could feel every part of him, and it made me catch my breath, but I didn’t move away. What woman in her right mind would? I couldn’t seem to help myself as I nestled in closer, resting my cheek on his broad chest pleased when he made a small sound in his throat, it was a very happy sound.
“Stop worrying beautiful Hannah, there is no one else here but you and me”
And I had to wonder how he knew that my insecurities were surfacing under the weight of dozens of eyes.
“Your brother and his friend are staring at us” I whispered back, I felt rather that heard him chuckle. “My brother is just wishing he had thought to ask you to dance first, Lyla will keep him occupied though so don’t worry”
I frowned. Yeah, I just bet she would. I wasn’t a worldly woman, but I knew a bitter snake when I saw one and Lyla was about as slithery as they came. The fake over top friendliness, the big show of kissing them it was all for my benefit I was certain, like I would be a threat to tall beautiful Lyla except maybe I was. I was the one pressed up against one half of a duo that had the starring role in millions of women’s wet dreams.
“Oh, I bet she would just love to keep him occupied”
I felt his firm fingers on my chin, lifting my face to him. “Are you jealous?” His lips were so close to mine, I knew if I just reached up on my tiptoes, I would bring our lips together. “Lyla is our very dearest friend; Alex only has eyes for you” He was so close I could smell the minty freshness of his breath mixed with the scotch he had been drinking. “We only have eyes for you” He corrected.
“Is that right?” Teasing was always my go to when I felt nervous, and Julian made me more nervous than all the big wigs and celebrities here. I was so out of my depth it wasn’t even funny.
“Oh, it’s right” he ground himself into me, and I had to stifle a gasp. “I think you can feel what you’re doing to me Hannah”
Oh, I could feel it alright. my cheeks turned crimson.
“You have made her blush brother” Alexander span me so quickly out of his brothers arms and into his that I almost fell on my heels, his firm arms caught me effortlessly. “I do like it when she blushes”
“Alex this really isn’t a good time” But Julian’s voice held laughter, he wiggled his eyebrows. “We haven’t finished our dance”
Alex waved him off, were these two beautiful men really fighting over me?
“Tough it’s my turn, you are always sneaking her into your arms, it’s time for her to dance with me”
Yep they were fighting over me, but there was no jealousy between them. “Let’s take a walk” Strong fingers curled around mine as he led me away. “You don’t mind, do you? I’d like to talk to you privately “he pushed open a door, leading me out into the cool night air and closing the door firmly behind him. I shivered slightly. It may be summer, but the nights were still cool.
The weight of his jacket was comforting as he settled it over my shoulders.
“The view is amazing isn’t it?” I knew I was making small talk for the sake of filling the silence, but it was the truth. The view of the city lights twinkling around us was beautiful. “Yes, the view is breathtaking”
There was a trembling in his voice, he wasn’t talking about the city at all.
“It isn’t as nice as the view of the ocean from your decking though”
“I think it puts even the ocean to shame” he turned me sharply, not pulling me as close as his brother had done. “I would like to drape this beautiful skin with gems the color of the ocean” His fingers brushed across my décolletage, making it my time to shiver.
I ached for his hands to move lower, my n*****s hardening, pushing against the thin material of the dress. His eyes widened for just a second before they found my face again. “scrap that, gems and jewels would pale compared to you and just get in the way”
“In the way of what?” I croaked, clearing my throat I let out a shaky breath.
“My lips” he whispered, his arm tightening around my waist, his breath making the hair on my neck stand up. He placed a kiss just below my ear. “This”
And I knew I was lost.
Totally and utterly lost.
I wanted them both on some primal level. My skin craved their closeness I just hadn’t realized it until then.
“But not here” He whispered against my neck. “Too many people, too many eyes, let’s go home”
I wasn’t even sure what I was doing anymore, so I followed behind my hand firmly in his, his jacket firmly around my shoulders, I tried to shrug it off, but he stopped so suddenly I almost walked into him. Settling it back in to place. “No more eyes but ours on you tonight Hannah, I don’t think I could take it”
Well damn, did he just say ours? Julian’s and his? My heart skipped a beat. Flirting was one thing, but he was actually talking like they both wanted me, at the same time and I wasn’t sure how I felt about that.
