Julian
“Breathe Hannah” I squeezed her hand. “Just breathe”
She let out a shallow breath, the noise raspy in the close confines on the car. “There’s so many people” She had her nose almost pressed up against the tinted glass and I stifled a grin. Yeah there was more than few people thronging the pavements, when we performed, even an intimate performance like tonight’s to kick start our newest album launch the fans always seemed to find out. And they always turned up in droves.
It was all part of our siren song. The undying devotion, the crazed fans. It was like oxygen to us. We couldn’t last without it. There was a reason the myths of Sirens luring sailors to their deaths had been told through out the ages. We were no different to our ancestors, but in this digital age, where celebrities were treated like gods there was no need to lure anyone to an untimely death.
We just needed them to come to us. To adore us.
Not that I could tell Hannah any of that.
“And we have to go through them?” Her hand went rigid in mine. I hadn’t even realized that I had been rubbing her palm over my cheek.
“We will have security, honestly you will be fine. Just smile. We will do the rest”
“What if I fall?” Her voice was small, worried.
“We won’t let that happen” Alexander stirred himself from his day dream. Leaning forward to place his hand on her denim clad knee. “There will always be one of us by your side Hannah, and once we in, you will be able to watch the show from a VIP area, but we won’t let you fall! Not ever!”
She didn’t look convinced. “I am not sure why you insisted I come tonight, surely it will just make all the rumors true?”
I sighed heavily; my lips so close to hers. “Are they rumors if they are true?”
“True?” She squeaked but she didn’t move away. I kissed her softly, which did make her move away. She threw a worried look towards the window.
“No one can see us Hannah” Alex had settled himself back in his chair, watching our exchange. I was impressed, I knew how much it pained him to have her so close and not touch her. I knew because it was the same pain I felt.
“Yes true, isn’t that what we are doing, dating?”
She looked shocked, shaking her head. “Is it?”
“I think so” I murmured capturing her lips again. This time she let me part hers mouth with mine. My tongue touched hers tentatively.
“I bloody hope so” My brother scooted closer. His eyes blazing in the darkness as he traced faint lines down her bare neck.
“Still…” she was breathless when she broke the kiss. “I’m not sure my family could cope with the press making it official that I was dating two men, even two rock stars”
“How about we just make it official just between us then?” I knew I was pushing my luck the moment I felt her stiffen. Alex flashed his eyes at me, a clear warning as he moved back into his seat.
“What does that even mean?” She pushed back slightly. “Do we need to put a label on things? I thought we were just getting to know each other? With no pressure”
Her beautiful face was flushed, though I wasn’t sure whether it was from my kiss or the thought of making things official with us. Well official for a human. We still had a long way to go on our part and now she wouldn’t even look at us. Pressing her face to the glass as we drove up on the venue. The orange of the street lights throwing shadows on to her face. She looked lost in thought,
“There is no pressure” Alex started reaching for her hand, bringing it on to his lap.
“No pressure but we like you Hannah, we need to know you like us enough to give this a real chance” I tried to keep my voice soft, to keep the urgency out of it but the tremble in it gave me away. “A chance without the risk of other people getting in the way”
“Other people?”
“That’s all he’s asking, that for the time we spend together you don’t date anyone else. That you give us a real chance”
She swallowed hard. I could see her throat moving around the cute little black string she had tied around her throat as a choker. The black cord had a tiny mermaid dangling from it. It made me smile. “I can do that” She nodded suddenly, biting her lip. “I’m not sure I could handle dating three men anyway; I have a feeling the two of you may be enough” She giggled again.
“You have that right” I winked at her, loving the way her face beamed with color. “But how busy will just have to wait” I added as the car pulled to a stop. “Are you ready?”
“Not even a little bit” She looked down in despair at her outfit. We had told her not to worry a million times, but self-doubt reared its ugly head again. Then with a shake she seemed to resign herself to the fact that there would be no chance to change. No chance to hide.
“Let’s do this” Alexander rolled his shoulders; he was pumped as he always was before a gig. How ever small. Then he pushed open the door and stepped out. His tall frame moving gracefully.
Lights exploded outside as he reached his hand back into the car. Hannah gave me one last panicked look and when I nodded, she took the offered hand and stepped out next to my brother. I quickly brought up the rear. My arm snaking firmly around her waist as a hundred flash bulbs went off in our faces.
“Just smile” I said through gritted teeth, my smile firmly on. I loved it. I couldn’t even deny it. The screaming fans were like a drug.
“Miss miss miss”
I felt her shrink back as a roar of voices turned to her. Asking a million questions all at once as she stood there blinking on the curb.
“Let’s go” Alexander whispered, he gave one cheery wave to the screaming crowd and led us off.
Hannah
Ok this wasn’t so bad. The chaos out front hadn’t been fun at all. Having that many lights going off in my face l at once, all those reporters screaming at her but inside ,in the relative calm of their changing room it was different.
It was still busy, with people bustling in and out but there was an order to it, and no one paid me much attention at all. They were all to busy fawning over the real stars. Which meant I could sit in the corner and watch.
Watch them transform from the men I was used to, to the superstars I had seen briefly on the tv. Gone were the shorts and caps, in their place two men stood who I wasn’t even sure I recognized. It was such an odd transformation.
From men to superstars.
“It’s time”
They stood in unison, Julian rolled his head his neck cracking, Alexander bounced on the balls of his feet.
Their enthusiasm filled the room. There were high fives all round, a lot of back slapping and all the while I stood back. Feeling awkward, and out of place. Like a forgotten doll. They were so intent on each other and their team.
Then they were on either side of me, arms tight so I was in a delicious twin sandwich.
“Didn’t think we had forgotten you, did you?” Alex kissed my hair, even in heels I barely came up to his chin. Julian kissed my cheek to a chorus of wolf whistles.
Public shows of affection had never been my thing, but I could help laugh as I kissed them both on the cheek in turn. “Good luck” and then they were whisked away from me and I was left with a small woman who was eyeing my curiously.
I smiled again, my face hurting from the constant grin I seemed to have on my face.
“Follow me, they would like you to watch” She appraised me then, taking in the black jeans and white shirt. The look wasn’t a nice one. No doubt wondering how I had managed to have snagged two such gorgeous men, but she didn’t say a word and for that I was glad because I didn’t know the answer to it myself.
The VIP area was small, only a few people in it and no one that spoke to me, though I was conscious of the looks people were giving me. It seemed my face was famous right now. I was the girl who was dating the twins. It wasn’t a title I was completely comfortable with but when they started playing, I forgot all about the looks and sneers being thrown my way.
Leaning on my knees I stared down at them mesmerized. This was nothing like watching them perform on the tv, this was like some magic. I couldn’t take my eyes off them, my feet tapping in time with the music.
All around me the crowd was going wild, women screaming their names. It became deafening.
“The next song is one you haven’t heard before” Julian’s voice cut through the crowd. “It’s one I wrote for a special lady sitting in the crowd tonight”
Oh god, I could feel my cheeks begin to burn.
“You may have seen her in todays news” Alexander carried on. “Hannah baby this one’s for you”
I shrank back. What had they done? Now the tabloids really would have a field day. Then the melody hit me in the gut, so heart wrongly beautiful it took my breath away. Slowly the band behind them joined in but for a sweet few minutes it was just their amazingly beautiful voices. There was no one else, just them and me.
Tears spilled down my cheeks as I listened to the song Julian had written about me.
