CASSIA’S POV:
“Cassia, you haven’t had breakfast yet!” My mom scolds me as I hastily whisk out of the house.
“Just keep my portion in the fridge, mum. I’ll eat when I get back from school” I yell at the top of my lungs as I close the door behind me and rush into the bush nearby.
I know she’s going to spend the better part of the day worrying about the fact that I haven’t had breakfast and I feel like a spoilt brat for doing that to her, but I can’t help it.
I have to go to school early, even if it is at the expense of my health and my mum’s emotional well being and that is because my school doesn’t go easy on low-class wolves like me.
It hasn’t always been like this though.
My father used to be the Zeta of the pack, which is the Shadow Moon Pack, but he was accused of plotting against the Alpha, Alpha Icarius Amias.
When the Alpha heard about this, he grew furious and killed my father without even investigating the issue. He went as far as banishing my mother and me from the main pack residence and right now, we live on the outskirts of the pack and are considered outcasts.
Mum and I work multiple part-time jobs just to meet ends meet and the other subjects are terrible towards us. The sad thing is that we cannot leave the pack, because if we dare, we become rogues and that’s the worst thing that can ever happen to a werewolf.
So mum and I have decided to stay here in the outskirts with the others and wait for the day the Moon goddess decides to redeem us.
“Cassia, do you want us to go late to school again?” Marcus, my best and only friend, asks slightly irritated as I rush into the cave which is our regular meeting spot every morning.
We meet here to change and shape shift into our wolf forms so we can run to school together.
“I'm very sorry, Marcus. I was up almost all night so I slept late, which resulted in me waking up late,” I explain as I start taking off my clothes, caring less about the fact I’m standing before a guy.
Marcus instantly turns around and walks out of the cave and I chuckle as I get on with what I’m doing.
Once I’m done, I put my clothes in my school bag and keep them in a corner of the cave. I’ll pass by and pick it up on my way back from school.
“Okay, Myla, it’s your time to shine,” I whisper to myself, and immediately, she sprints on my mind and howls in excitement.
Her favorite moment is when I let her take complete control over me. She’s a badass omega wolf and I’m very happy to have her.
My eyes immediately turn yellow and my vision becomes excellent. My bones start snapping and my finger starts revamping into paws.
I let out a soft chuckle as I lunge in the air and as I do so, I land on the paws of my fore and hind limbs.
I quickly dash out of the cave where I meet Marcus’ big brown wolf waiting for me. His name is Jackson and he’s the fluffiest and most gentle creature in the world, I love him.
“Ready to go?” Marcus asks through mind link and howls in excitement.
We both immediately take on our heels at top speed into the woods which must be sick and tired of us already.
Running to school in my wolf form with Marcus is always the best part of my entire day.
The run to school lasted about twenty minutes. When we arrived, we both go straight to our section of the school so we can shape shift and put on our clothes before going to attend our classes.
Our pack high school is divided into two sections. We have the section where children of the Alpha, Beta and other high-ranking officials attend, and the section where the less privileged and the outcasts like me attend.
When my father was alive, he used to be the Zeta, so I was in the Royal section. But after the scandal and his death, my mum and I were banished and now, I have been transferred to the poor section.
How very tragic!
I walk into the girl's dressing room and over to my locker, where I shape shift into my human form and start putting on my clothes.
Most of the poor students who graduate from here don’t make it big. It's either they end up with some mediocre job or as servants to the rich pack members and I find it very unfair.
However, I don’t think that is the future that awaits me. I’m going to be more than just a servant to some greedy high ranking official. I don’t care what they say, but I’m going to be a pack doctor one day. My life doesn’t end here. That, I swear!
When I’m done dressing up for class, I take out my little school bag from my locker and stuff it up with the books and materials I will be needing for the day. I gently key the locker and head out of the dressing room.
“Well well well, look who we have here. Daughter of the Alpha slayer” A particularly familiar voice speaks from behind and I stop in my tracks and roll my eyes hard because I already know who it is.
It is no one else but the infamous Delicia Castro, the number one bully of all time. Her father is the new Zeta who was appointed after my father's death and she has taken it upon herself to taunt me about it all the days of my life.
I quietly shake my head and walk on because if I turn around to confront her, it’ll end up in a fist fight and I will be penalized severely by the authorities, which is the last thing I want now as exams are drawing near.
“I’m talking to you, peasant! Stop right there!” She commands, but I don’t obey.
I just keep walking on.
Shortly, I heard quick footsteps approaching, and before I know it, my shirt is being grabbed from behind.
I quickly turn around and haul my shirt from her hand before she can tear it into pieces. Right now, I don’t have money to buy a new school shirt if this one gets torn.
I look up and notice that she is not standing alone, but is accompanied by her minions — Elisha and Galina. They follow her everywhere around school like she was their Queen Bee.
Poor things.
“What now, Delicia?” I ask nerved and she casts me a scornful look.
I don’t even know what her problem is or why she is looking at me like that. I have done absolutely nothing to her.
“How dare you walk out on me when I’m talking to you?” Delicia asks with all seriousness and I’m tempted to laugh, but I hold my laughter in.
“I really don’t have time for this right now, unlike some of you, I have books to read and grades to polish. If you’d excuse me, I have to get going” I attempt to step ahead, but Delicis blocks my way.
I look at her slightly irritated, wishing I could smash her head into the wall and go free. She annoys the crap out of me every single time.
She takes slow calculated steps toward me and when she is close enough, she holds my tie and pulls me closer to her, caring less about the fact that she is strangling me.
“Cassia, you seem to be forgetting your place in this school and in this pack as a whole. Well, let me remind you. You are the product of a traitor, you are an outcast and for as long as you live, you will be treated as such. No one will ever respect you because that is what you are. Understood?” She scolds in my face and I close my eyes and make a disgusted face as drops of saliva from her mouth keeps splashing on my face.
She’s disgusting!
“Are you done?” I ask quietly and she appears taken aback by my question. “If you are done babbling, then you can let go of my tie so I can wipe the drops of your saliva that has been splashing on my face. I’m going to puke if I don’t do so right now.” I dish out and she quietly lets go of my collar and I take a step back.
I take out a tissue from my bag and wipe my face thoroughly before turning to look at her once more.
“You know, Delicia, I would have loved to give you a dirty look right now, but you’ve already got one, so I’ll pass. I’d advise you to do something more lucrative with your time, like… you know, studying, instead of poking your nostrils into things that do not concern you. That fat mouth of yours will one day land you into a big mess” I retort boldly and turn to leave, but something crosses my mind and I turn to face her again.
“You were so excited to come to school and talk trash to me to the extent that you forgot to take your bath. Now that you have accomplished your mission, can you please go back home and shower? You stink so bad, one would think you use a dead skunk as deodorant” I blast out loud and the entire corridor erupts with laughter.
My mates from the poor section laugh and hold their nostrils as they walk past her. Her face immediately flushes red with embarrassment as she runs out of the hallway almost in tears, with her minions following her.
I let out a sinister chuckle as I turn around and start heading to my class.
Serves her right for messing with the wrong Omega.
