THIRD PERSON’S POV
Three months later
The alpha had died about five months ago, and the triplet alphas were going to be crowned. It was the first time triplet alphas were being born in the pack and even though everyone had their doubts that the triplets wouldn’t be able to lead at the same time, there was nothing they could do about it. They had been waiting for the mate of the alphas to come and she had not.
“Are you guys ready?” Xaden asked, coming into his brother’s room. Killian and Evan had already gotten ready and were going through the list of the people who were going to come for the coronation.
“Yes, we are.” Evan answered as he leaned back on his bed and sipped some alcohol from a bottle.
“Are you really getting drunk right now when we are about to be crowned as the alphas of the pack?” Xaden frowned. Xaden was the firstborn of the three of them, but the elders still did not want to let him to be the alpha alone. They had pressed that they should choose the person that got mated first between them to be the alpha.
“What is the point?” He sighed, looking up. “If Emma was still here then all of this wouldn’t be happening. This is a mess. Three people cannot be crowned as alphas of the throne. It is going to be a disaster!”
“What else would you have us do?” Killian spoke as he adjusted his looks by the mirror. Out of the three of them, he was the one with the most vanity.
“Isn’t all of this your fault?” Evan hissed.
“How is it my fault that she ran away?” Killian turned around to face them with a frown. Killian had been the one who was supposed to take care of Emma the day when they had brought her to the pack. They had slept together that day, and it was possibly the most special thing that had ever happened to him. He had something to do after so he left Emma to sleep alone and when he was back, he was met with an empty room and a dead guard in front of the room.
He did not think Emma could kill anybody. She was soft and lovely, not the type of person that would commit murder. He guessed that perhaps she was not who she said she was. Maybe she had slept with him so she could gain his trust and then she could run away after. After she left, the triplets decided to let her be. If she did not want to stay, then they would not force it.
Also, they felt the severed mate bond so they decided to wait for their second chance mate. Three months had passed and they hadn’t found her, and now the day had arrived.
“You were with her that day. If you had guarded her like we had asked you to then she would have been alive by now.” Xaden hissed.
“Or she would have stabbed me in my sleep and I would have been dead,” Killian rolled his eyes. “She made a decision and we will have to respect it. Who knows, maybe we could meet our second chance mate today.”
“Right.” Evan agreed.
Xaden silently agreed as he headed to the bed and collected the bottle his brother had been drinking and took a swig. They were nervous, but knew that whatever happens was going to be for the best. There was always the possibility that they were not going to find their mate before it was time, and they would be forced to all get on the throne. They never thought it would happen, though.
“We should go now.” Killian straightened, then turned to face his brothers.
They nodded as they got up and headed down to the pack hall where they were going to have the mating ceremony. There, the elders and some of the pack members that were of the high hierarchy were there, waiting for them. Some of them sat down while the rest were in groups, discussing. Once the triplets had arrived in the hall, they all stopped and turned to look at them.
Anxiety gripped the triplets but they did not show it on their faces. They had to show that they were strong if not, then the pack was never going to respect them the way they wanted to be respected. Their father had raised the bar for them, so they had to look strong.
The theta of the pack, the one that always spoke in gatherings like that smiled when he saw the triplets, “The rightful heirs of the throne of the Blackstone pack have arrived. The future kings, sons of the greatest king and warrior to ever exist are finally going to ascend the throne not in one, but in three!”
The rest of the pack mates cheered as the triplets alphas approached their throne. There were three thrones there. It looked weird to them. They were used to seeing only one throne there where their father and grandfather sat. Now, it was going to be them and not only one of them. All of them.
“As we commence the coronation of our alphas today, we will have to adjust to some of the changes in the pack as this is the first time anything like this is happening. But according to the laws of the pack, we would have to put them up all on the throne because there has never been a case like this. So without further ado, we should start with the oaths.”
The elders came forward with three identical crowns. There were also three staff there for them to oath to as per the traditions of the pack. The theta had started to recite the oaths when the entire place went still. They looked back, and there was a presence that had just misted itself at the back. They all turned around and lo and behold, the moon goddess had shown herself in front of them.
Her hair was long and luscious, with an ethereal glow to her face. The entire pack bowed down as she approached them. When she was close enough, the triplet alphas bowed down in respect to her too. They had never heard of her ever coming to their lands, so they were quite shocked to see her.
“I see the alphas of the Blackstone pack are going to be coronated as the alphas, but I forbid it!” Her powerful voice boomed at once, making chills run down everyone’s spines that were there.
“Your majesty…” The theta nodded his head.
“The triplet’s mate still resides somewhere and within her womb are the scared heirs of the Blackstone pack. Unless the triplets bring her back to the pack and make her willingly take the throne as the luna of the pack, I forbid for them to ever touch the throne.” She said lastly and without giving them another chance to think about what she had just said, she turned around and misted away into the air.
The triplets looked at each other, eyes widened and hearts throbbing wildly in their chest.
“Which one of you slept with her?” Xaden hissed, storms of rage forming in his eyes.
Killian swallowed. He had hidden away that truth from them for the past three months, but he needed to say it now. “I did.” He deadpanned.
“You piece of shit.” Xavier’s eyes glowed as fought the urge to hit his brother.
“But that was all that happened, I swear to you on my life. After it happened I left her to do something and then when I was back I found out she was gone. And then the dead soldier by the gate.” Killian told them. He knew that if he had told his brothers that he had slept with her, then they would think it had something to do with her leaving, so he kept that detail out.
“It doesn’t even matter now. We have to find her and know the reason why she left, and then convince her to come back with us.” Xaden sighed.
“What if she doesn’t want to come back?” Evan asked.
“She will,” Xaden felt confident about it. “I will make sure of it.”
“Right.”
“And Killian?” Xaden called out.
“Yes?” Killian answered.
“If I find out you had something to do with her disappearance then I am going to cut you into tiny bits and feed them to the stray wolves.” He threatened.
“I can count on you with that.” Killian agreed.
Xaden nodded before he barged out of the hall. He had some work to do about some projects that were going on in the pack, but he did not have time for that now. What matters is bringing their mate back home. Since the moon goddess said that Emma was still their mate, then he had to get her back and have her for himself. That was where she belonged, in his arms. Unfortunately for him, the rest of his brothers thought the exact same way too.
