THE HOSTESS SHOWED them to a table close to the lake. There, Bryan courteously pulled Becka’s chair and helped her to sit at the table. After she took her seat, Becka looked at the lake wistfully. A dozen boats had set sail out on the lake that day, and white sails, canoes, and all kinds of other boats peppered the shiny surface of the water. Becka was crazy about sailing. Yet, she had rarely had the chance to go out on the lake lately. Matt was the only one who owned a boat, and busy with his work all the time, he hadn’t had enough time to take her out sailing that summer. Bryan sat down at his turn and gazed at Becka.
