“How could you leave your little bean alone and not check on her all this while?, I have waited day and night for your letter but it seems it is a dream that will never come true. Please come visit me once or take me along, I’m scared something might happen to me if I stay too long in this house, I hope and pray you receive this soon and come for your little bean, I love you Maggie”.
Abigail wrote down, folded her letter neatly and placed it gently into the envelope as she placed it in the box under her bed.
“I must get up early and be the first person at the post shop tomorrow" she said to herself as she stared into the roof of her room waiting eagerly for morning to come.
Margaret, her older sister has been forced to marry the famous horse rider against her will when her parents couldn’t afford to pay back their debt last year.
She had cried her eyes out but no one came to her aid, she had no choice than to accept her fate and become the wife of Dreg.
Abigail thought and pondered about the sweet pancakes, cakes, sweets and coffee her sister made her anytime she got paid her salary at the bakery where she worked before the forceful marriage and let out a little cry as she missed her a lot.

“Now that I have sent the letter, I hope she reply fast" Abigail said to herself as she jump around in hope across the yard, humming a happy song to herself as she jumped to open the door only to meet a tall, handsome, stern looking man in the sitting room with her parents.
“Good morning", she greeted and started to hop on her way to her room since the meeting doesn’t seem to concern her.
“Abigail!" Edward's husky voice called out which stopped Abigail on her tracks.
Her dad, Edward Dagos is one of the good looking men you can find in town, he got married to her mom, Rena Dagos at the age of 25, that time her mom was only 18. They had her sister and moved from their old house to this current house when she was three.
Her dad and mom are the greedy type that wants to do what everyone does, they are not rich but always want to wear the latest clothes and renovate their house to the latest trend.
The chickens, cows that grandma had gifted them during their wedding and all livestock they owned were gone as a result of this wannabe life.
Of course, the kids only get one out of ten clothes bought from the money and if they dare complain, they'd get slapped with “you are still a kid, why are you demanding for more?” and they have no choice but to receive the ones they are given.
Due to this idiotic lifestyle her parents lived, they live in a great house but they are one of the richest debtors in town, they exhibited this foolish lifestyle to the extent that her sister got sold in marriage when they could not pay Greg his money"
“Abigail, come here” the authoritative voice called again as she reverse back to the sitting room, wondering what the matter could be as cold shivers ran through her body.
This scenario is familiar, she thought to herself, “but it couldn’t be, can it? I’m still too young" she whispered as she takes her last step in front of her father.
“Sit there", he commanded while pointing to the adjacent couch,
She sat down looking like a lamb awaiting judgment as she faced her parents and the unknown man.
“Abigail, you know we love you right?" Rena said with a smile
“Yes I know" She replied after hesitating for a while,
this is odd, why are we talking about love all of a sudden? She thought as her heartbeat increased and her eyeballs couldn’t sit in one place.
“You love us too right?" Rena continued, looking intently into Abigail’s eyes waiting for an answer.
“Yes” she nodded slowly and swallowed a huge portion of spit, her hands were already wet when it’s only morning, the atmosphere was too tense for her, and she could not comprehend whatever was happening or going to happen.
“Good!" Rena said with a smile on her face.
“Enough with the sweet talk", Edward’s husky voice cuts in as fear gripped Abigail once more.
“Abigail, you will have to follow this man home starting today", He dropped the bomb and Abigail burst into hot tears.
“Why? Why must I follow someone I don’t know? What is going on here?" She sprouted out questions as she could not understand why she had to follow a stranger.
“You know we just finished decorating our yard and sitting room and we are yet to pay back, you only need to serve him for two years and we will come take you back, by then we would have paid back our debt" Rena explained to Abigail who was still shedding hot tears where she was seated.
“No need to explain all that, but as you’ve heard, we will come back for you in two years’ time" Edward said without considering the tears that flowed endlessly.
“Go pack your things" he commanded but Abigail couldn’t stand up from the sofa, she just kept crying and wanting to wake up from her dreams.
“Will you get up right now?" Rena screamed at her
Abigail flew up right away coming back to reality as it dawned on her that she was being sold because of her foolish parents’ greed. What she had feared was finally coming to pass.
How am I going to survive? Should I just throw myself inside the well at the backyard? Where do I know I’m going? Different thoughts and suggestions passed through her mind as she walked to her room.
“Wow, my loads are even packed already” she whispered to herself in amazement as she saw a little box on her bed, her clothes on the hanger is nowhere to be found, meaning they have been packed into the box for her to take along.
Her two pairs of shoes have been packed as well and now the room was really empty, she’s really going, it’s confirmed! she realized as she burst into another fresh round of tears.
“Don’t you know you are keeping him waiting?" Rena said from the back making Abigail spring up and quickly wipe off her tears with the back of her hand.
