Three - Son of the Alpha

1341 Words
“My baby” Donavan’s mother exclaims in her ever so sweet voice as he steps out of the Sleek black Cadillac. She Hugs him tight, with tears threatening to fall from her dark eyes, and he embraces her tiny frame warmly. Donavan pulls back long enough to get out “Hi mom.” when the Luna pulls him right back in. “Alright Lydia.” Alpha Desmond’s deep voice calls from the entryway of the pack house. “Let the boy breathe.” Alpha Desmond walks over and pulls Donavan in for a hug, patting his back. “Glad to see you homeboy.” He tells him with a grin. The Alpha motions to the omega’s, and they start unloading the truck while the Alpha and Luna walk inside the pack house with their son. “You look a bit more like a man now.” His dad teases, patting the stubble on Donavan’s face as they enter the elevator. “I would hope so Sir” Donavan says with a grin. After the omega’s get all his luggage brought up, he goes through his bags and pulls out the few gifts he picked up at the Academy for his parents. When he walks out of his room, he is hit with the savory smell of bacon and his stomach growls. Realizing how hungry he is, he makes a V line to the kitchen where his mother is making her famous BLT’s. “Here mom.” Donvan says, handing her a gift bag and, while she’s distracted, he reaches behind her and snags a piece of bacon off the counter. He sneaks another piece while his mom is still looking through her bag, but this time she catches him. He shoves it in his mouth before she can take it from him and laughs when she smacks his arm. “Alright you two,” he says, taking a seat at the kitchen island, and Donavan makes his way around and takes a seat next to his father, who is watching his Luna hum joyfully, swaying here and there almost like a dance while making her BLT’s. “Here dad.” Donavan slides a bag over to his father who pulls out a shirt, a bottle opener and a magnet and his dad chuckles. “What?” Donavan asks, and his father leans back in his chair still grinning. “Remind me never to ask you to do the Christmas shopping around here.” He tells him and pats him on the shoulder. “I stopped by the gift shop at the last minute.” He admits, making the Alpha chuckle again. “Well, I’m just grateful you're home. That means your mom and I can look forward to retiring soon.” He notices his dad wink at his mother, and she gives him a saucy grin in response. “I’m sitting right here.” He reminds them flatly and the Alpha chuckles. “So, I understand you have been seeing Alpha Able’s oldest daughter for quite some time now, is that right?” Alpha Desmond leans forward as the Luna pushes a glass of whiskey towards them. Donavan watches his father nod to his mother in appreciation and he follows suit. “Yes Sir.” Donavan admits letting the sip of whiskey warm his throat. “I plan for her to come here a week from today, so she can meet you both, and we can discuss details of our betrothal.” Luna Lydia drops the knife she was using to spread the mayo and looks at her son blankly. “What about finding your mate?” she says abruptly. “What about her mom? I really like Sara, and I think this would be a great opportunity for growth, both financially and for our community.” The Luna is upset by her son's nonchalant attitude about his mate and starts mumbling curses under her breath. Donavan looks over to his father, and it looks like he is thinking it over. Donavan lets the silence settle in and the conversation dies until Alpha Desmond finishes off his glass of whiskey. “Well Son, I don’t think it’s a bad deal, but are you sure you’d be willing to reject your Goddess given mate for material means? You’re still young, you have some time to wait if you wanted.” He pauses a moment before continuing, “I see the potential this arrangement can have . . .” He stares lovingly at his Luna “but I have never experienced a more empowering and motivational force than that of the mate bond. I know there are Alphas who have chosen mates and have been successful, but it's not an easy path.” The Luna looks over at her son, willing him to reconsider, but Donavan looks away. His mind has been made up for the last 6 months. “Sara and I have already talked about everything, we’ve weighed the advantages and disadvantages, and I am certain this is the best path forward.” He tells his father and before his mother can say anything else, Donavan's phone goes off in his pocket and he welcomes the interruption. “I’m going to take this.” He tells them, slipping away from the kitchen. “Hey, we heard you were back and wanted to invite you to shoot some hoops like old times?” One of Donavan's oldest friends, John, voice says through the line. “Yeah, of course, what time are you guys going to meet up?” He asks, hoping for an excuse to leave for a bit. “Does Four sound good?” John asks and Donavan looks down at his watch. That would give him about 30 minutes before he needs to leave. “Yeah, sounds good buddy, see you then.” He tells him before disconnecting. “It looks like you guys started without me.” Donavan says, walking up, and they all drop the basketball to come greet their future Alpha. “It’s good to see you my friend, it's been a while.” John gives him a quick hug and the rest of the guys shake his hand, and they spend some time catching up. “You ready to play some ball?” John asks after a while throwing the ball to the Alpha, and he catches it. The cold wind chills the sweat on the future Alpha skin as the sun begins to set. He was glad he took time to spend with his old friends, especially John. John didn't attend the academy like most of the others, but Donavan can see John is still the best candidate to take over for his father, who is the pack, Gamma. He is strong, relatable and trustworthy. Donavan jumps to block the ball when he smells the sweet scent of Jasmin and honey. It’s the most intense and feminine scent he’s ever experienced, and it distracts him completely. He scans the park looking for the origin of the scent when his gaze is captured by eyes as green as emerald gems. She was beautiful, and he allowed his eyes to study her, starting with her perfectly tanned legs, up her slender, athletic figure. He licked his lips as he took in her every curve and settled, once again, on the radiant beauty of her face. She was the most breathtaking woman he had ever laid eyes on, and it was as if time itself had stopped. “Hey, you alright?” John asked and Donavan couldn’t bring himself to break his gaze long enough to answer his friend. This girl was the most alluring creature he had ever seen. He notices her long delicate eyelashes that perfectly suited the small patch of freckles running across the bridge of her small nose. His trance was only broken when he felt his wolf push forward and in a low dominant growl, he spoke the words “Mine” and a feeling of dread crept into his soul.
