*Jim* We were all laughing and having a good time, but Emmy looked at her phone and got quiet. “What’s goin’, Darlin’,” I whisper in her ear. She smiles at me sadly and turns her phone so that I can see the text message from Lucy. -You’ll be pleased to know I’ll be gone before you come back home. I pull her chair beside mine and tuck her under my arm protectively. I know that Lucy’s moving has been hard for her, and now that it’s real, it’s hitting her. I kiss her head, unsure what I should do for her, as she plasters a fake smile on her face to carry on with her friends.
