Morpheus POV
The bleachers were packed and the sounds of cheers and screamed filled the air. The Wolves were in the lead and our side of the field was hype with people hooting and hollering but I was nowhere near happy. It was already half time and Jewel was nowhere to be seen, her friends were here but she wasn’t. She’d just ran off a few hours ago without even a word. I've been trying to call her but she isn't answering her phone nor is she responding to my text or anyone's calls or texts for that matter.
Alexis was holding my jersey for her, sending me a small smile while holding her phone to her ear probably trying to call Jewel again but she shook her head signalling that she didn’t answer, again.
Amethyst would never set me up I doubt she's that kind of girl, she promised me that she would be here. She's sat and watched me practice for three weeks and now she’s not even here.
We’re winning though. The score is six: three, all we had to do was score another touchdown to actually win but we also have to make sure that the Beavers don’t do the same
We're winning anyway six three we just have to score another touchdown and we're going to win but we have to make sure the Beavers don't score a touchdown.
"Hut, Hut play three ready go!" I shouted, passing the ball to Roman who ran towards the touchdown line and all the Beavers focused on him. He was about to be knocked down but he threw the ball to Michael who’s known for his kicks. He pulled his foot back launching the ball into the air and it went through the uprights scoring us another three points making the crowd go wild.
It was the Beavers ball since we scored.
"Hut, Hut play sixteen go" their captain chanted and took off straight to our touchdown line with the ball.
I knocked him down and Killian got the ball, running in the other direction. He dodged players flinching away from anyone who tried to touch him. He was a few feet away from the line when he got knocked down but he threw the ball just in the time. The crowd got silent waiting to see what would happen. The ball landed just behind the line making it fifteen to three meaning we won.
The team jumped up and down in celebration, hugging each other but I shrugged them off, slipping off my helmet and jogging towards the locker room. I pulled off my gloves, throwing them onto the bench before opening my locker and grabbing my phone, calling Amethyst. The phone rang several times before it just went straight to voicemail.
"This is Amethyst I can't come to the phone but you can leave a message if you want, bye" her sweet voice filled my ears and I huffed, running a hand throw my hair and slouching against the lockets. Did she decide not to come? Did I do something?
"Hey Morpheus I'm sorry she didn't make it. Great game though" Alexis sent me a sorry smile as she entered the locker room, handing me my jersey and I nodded at her, taking it. I closed my eyes, leaning my head against the lockers before deciding that I’d just go to her house to see if she was okay. I had a quick shower so I wouldn't smell; changing into regular clothes I turned to see Jesse standing there in a tight crop top and shorts.
"Hey babe. How about I get your mind off of Amethyst?" she purred at me, batting her fake eyelashes at me. She ran a finger down my chest, biting her bottom lip and I stepped back quickly, shaking my head no, trying to ignore the hurt on her face.
"I think the f**k not" I scowled at her. I would never cheat on Amethyst and especially not with my ex, that just low.
"What's so f*****g good about her? She has nothing on me! Why do you choose her? She ditched your f*****g game and you’re still head over heels for her!" She raged, stomping her foot like a child while pulling at the roots of her hair. She had this wild, crazed look in her eyes, one I’d never seen before and it scared me.
"Why don't you love me?!" long tears streamed down her face, ruining her makeup.
I sighed, gripping her shoulders gently and staring deep into her eyes.
"Jesse I do love you, just not the way you want. You're like a sister to me. We tried the dating thing out and it didn't work. Please stop acting like this. You'll find a great guy someday, who will love you more than I ever could. He’ll treasure you like you’re supposed to be treasured. Okay?” I shook her shoulder, gently with a soft voice. Jesse and I went way back; we’ll always be the best of friends, that’s all.
She nodded, sniffling slightly. “Okay Morpheus” she wrapped her arms around me and I returned the hug. She snuggled into my neck and I briefly heard her whisper something before she pulled away and walked off.
“I’m sorry”
I gathered my things, hitching my gym bag on my shoulder just as an announcement sounded through the school intercom.
"Would all friends of Amethyst Jones, please report to the principal office immediately” my brows furrowed. I speed out of the locker, seeing Rosemary running across the field. She didn’t say anything, she just grabbed my arm.
Everyone was crying.
Amethyst’s mom was here, sobbing her eyes out. Alexis and Rosemary were bawling, Chad was trying to play off the fact that tears had brimmed in his eyes and Roman had excused himself the second he heard the news. Me, I was just shocked. My body was rigid, it felt like my heart had stopped, and it felt like someone was pressing on my lungs and Theseus howled in sadness. What the f**k?
"An amber alert has been put out on Amethyst. It appears she’s been abducted. She made a 911 call saying someone was in her house. There was screaming and a series of loud thumps and noises before the line went dead. The operator was able to trace the call and police arrived at the scene to see the door wide open and blood on the walls”
Rosemary hugged herself, another sob escaping her lips as she scurried out of the office followed by Chad. Alexis slid down the wall, hiding her head in her knees, but her loud cries still filled the office. Mrs Jones stooped next to her, holding her reassuring that everything would be alright but the way my heart hammered against my chest, it didn’t seem so.
"We need as much information as we can about what she wearing and the exact time that she left. Did she have any enemies or unknown boyfriends? Was she doing things that she wasn’t supposed to? Did she have reason to run away-“
“Don’t you dare finish that f*****g sentence officer or so help me I’ll shoot you with your own gun and make it look like it was an accident” Mrs Jones snapped at the officer before I could. I growled quietly.
“Amethyst had no reason to run away and I guarantee you that she didn’t. I’m her boyfriend. She was here till about three before she ran off. She was wearing a white hoodie with jeans and Nikes” I butted in, trying my best not to fly across the room and snap the officer’s neck. This was protocol; he was probably obligated to ask all those questions. That didn’t mean he had to be a d**k about it. My body was still rigid. I don’t think it really registered in my mind that this was all happening.
“She got a text and ran off at about three fifteen. She looked really panicked and close to tears" Rosemary added and the police officer, writing on his notepad. He reached into his pocket and pulled put a clear baggie. Inside was Amethyst’s phone, the shattered screen was lit up with all our texts and calls and I watched as the policeman took it out, showing the starry night case she’s painted.
My heart dropped as it finally set in. Someone had kidnapped my mate, someone had the audacity to kidnap my babygirl. How f*****g rude. It’d make them f*****g pay.
“She was set up….”
