By the time the day was over, I was exhausted, terrified, exhilarated—any word you could think of to describe topsy-turvy emotions after a lot of hard work, interspersed with a fist fight and thorough kissing. I’d spent the rest of the afternoon enduring knowing looks from Meg, especially when I’d pause in the middle of a task for no reason, or when she’d have to ask me twice to hand her something.
