Elias POV
The next morning, I woke up feeling refreshed and excited about something, but I couldn’t figure it out. I climbed out of my bed and quickly jumped into the shower and put on my new Nike Jogger set and my Nike Pegasus then walked out of my dorm room and over to Manndible’s to get a breakfast sandwich and coffee before going over to the Dean of Admissions, office but the line was too long so I went to see Dean Carson first instead.
“Mr. Jordan, what can I do for you?” Dean Carson asked me as soon as I walked into his office.
“Well, Mr. Carson, honestly I was coming to speak with you on behalf of Kory Winters’, as you know my father is groundbreaking the new Boutique Jordan Hotel in a couple weeks. Kory has been an intern for my father for the last year and unfortunately the date of his transfer interview is the same day as the groundbreaking. My father asked me to come by and ask you to reschedule his interview from Friday to Monday. The groundbreaking is Friday at 4:00 pm and there would be no way he could get from the interview here and back to the groundbreaking on time.” I said looking Mr. Carson in his eyes.
“Mr. Jordan, I did receive a request from Mr. Winters’ to reschedule for Monday and I hadn’t had the chance to respond yet but your father and I go back quite some time so I think I could honor that request.” Mr. Carson said with a smile, and I smiled back.
My father and Mr. Carson were line brothers back in the Seventies and they frequent some of the same circles so I didn’t really expect him to not reschedule the interview, but I didn’t want to make Kory any promises just in case it couldn’t be done. After I left Mr. Carson’s office, I called Kory to give him the news.
“Hey Elias, I just got in from work. Have you had a chance to speak with the Dean of Admissions yet?” Kory said as soon as he answered my call.
“Yes, I just left his office. He should be sending a response to your email shortly. But he’s going to reschedule it for Monday. Now I need a favor from you. The ‘Art of Storytelling’ Communications Conference is the same weekend and I need an excuse to come back Saturday instead of Sunday. Ty Bennett and Kindra Hall are keynote speakers. I don’t want to miss it. Can you tell my father that you will need to be at the school on Saturday and that you would like me to be with you to help you get around.” I said and he chuckled.
“I can do that. Thank you. I’m about to get a nap.” Kory said and I smiled before ending the call.
After I ended the call with Kory, I went back to Manndible’s to get a breakfast sandwich and some coffee. When I walked in the door, I was instantly greeted by Amanda. The café was packed, and I noticed that both Kelsey and Omar were both working as well.
“Welcome to Manndible’s, can I take your order?” Amanda asked and I looked at her with a smile.
“I’ll take a bacon and egg sandwich and a cup of coffee, please.” I said and she smiled then walked away towards the kitchen.
A few minutes later, Omar brought my food and coffee out to me, and I found a seat and started to eat. Before I finished my sandwich, Damien walked in and took a seat next to me.
“Hey Elias, I thought I might find you here. I think I might have an answer for your situation with your father. I think you can tell him that all senior communication students must be in attendance of the conference this year. Since the announcement was just made stating that fact.” Damien said with a smile.
“What?” I asked and he laughed.
“Check your email. Dr. Piper just announced that all senior communication students are required to be in attendance at least two of the three days of the conference. You are considered a senior after this term, right?” Damien said and I quickly grabbed my phone to check my email.
“I didn’t see this before now. Damn, I probably should call my dad and tell him I can’t make it. I hope this work.” I said then forwarded the email to my father with a quick note stating that I could come on Thursday, but I have to be back on campus before 10:00 am on Saturday.
A few minutes later my phone rung and it was my dad.
“Hey Pop, did you get my email?” I asked and he chuckled.
“Hello son, yes I received your email just as Kory was asking if you would be free to show him around campus on Saturday. He has a transfer interview on Monday after the groundbreaking. So, I was calling to let you know that it will be okay for you to leave Friday evening after the groundbreaking reception. However, since the conference was moved to the weekend instead of the end of the week. I would like to spend some time with you. Can you come on Wednesday?” My father asked and I could hear the desperation in his tone.
“Sure pop, I will book my flight for Wednesday and stay through early Saturday morning. I do miss you. It would be nice to spend a couple days with you.” I said and smiled.
“Good, I will see you next Wednesday. I love you son.” My father said and I smiled.
“I love you too pop. I will see you next Wednesday.” I said before ending the call.
