“Sir...Sir…” Matty ran into my house out of breath and only in a pair of shorts, meaning he had run in wolf form for a long distance. Only shifting back recently, throwing on shorts to talk to me and not be naked. If he was this out of breath, he must have run a really long distance. Our wolves didn’t tire easily. Looking up from my book, I raised an eyebrow at him. “Take a breath, Matty.” He waved me off, “Sir….” I shook my head at him but waited for him to get out what he came here to say. He was a good kid, young, only nineteen. The girls tended to like him. He was every girl's dream guy in human form. He was well built with muscles in all the places the girls seemed to like, short black hair, dark brown eyes. He looked the part of a bad boy. He didn’t like staying in one place for a long time and liked to travel. He was one of my best spies, actually, and always came back with good intel. “Sir...The..Female...wolf..cub...to...the..Night...moon...pack….” He leaned over, placing his hands on his knees, taking a couple of deep breaths trying to get his breathing under control. I was starting to grow impatient, though. “What about her?” He nodded, taking another deep breath and letting it out slowly. “The...female..” Another deep breath and out again helped him gain more control over his breathing. “Sir, she isn’t a normal wolf. Her wolf has violet eyes. There were witches present when she shifted. They cast a spell to protect The Nightmoon pack. They have locked them in the packhouse. No one can get in, and no one is coming out.” Raising my eyebrows, I sat back in my seat. Now that was an interesting turn of events. I am sure my father is going absolutely mad trying to get to the girl. For her sake, if her mate was there, I hope they insured his safety as well. Although if I remember right, the mate of the hybrid should be strong enough to protect himself, so even he should be able to take on my father. Matty’s eyes widened as he looked at me. “You don’t seem at all concerned about this. What if she is your mate?” I honestly hadn’t considered the idea of her being mine. “You could take over all the wolves.” I shrugged. “If she is my mate, then we will find each other. I am not concerned with taking over all wolves. I am focused on simply taking back my pack from my brother and saving the lives of those that will end when he does take over.” Sighing, he flung his hands up in the air and let them fall to his sides. “And if she is your mate, you will have the power to do that now.” I shook my head. “No, I will wait. Feel free to keep an eye on things, though.” With that, I turned back to my book and picked right back up where I left off.
Frustrated, Matty left me alone, heading back out instantly. I actually enjoyed it when no one else was around. It was quiet. It wasn’t like having a whole pack around all the time. However, I missed that as well. Something about simply being on my own out in the middle of nowhere seemed to relax my wolf. It was as though we were meant to be here. So even though I had a strong urge to go check this she-wolf out that Matty told me about. My gut and wolf insisted I stay put. It was like something was coming, and if I left, I would miss it. So I stayed put. I wouldn’t let anything distract me. Matty was only gone for a day before he returned, this time not so out of breath. “Sir…” I looked up from the meal I was cooking to look at Matty. “Yes?” He let out a breath. “Sir, your father has ordered every member of The Steelclaw pack here. All other alphas have left, and he is determined to take the girl.” I nodded and went back to my cooking. Sighing heavily, Matty plopped down into a chair at the small table I had in the kitchen. “Sir, are you not at all worried about this? If your father gets her even, you won’t stand a chance against your brother.” I shrugged. “If I am to believe the prophecy, no, I am not worried about this.” Shutting off the stove, I walked over and sat with Matty at the table. “Look, kid, if this girl is, in fact, the one from an ancient prophecy and she is meant to be with my brother, then I accept that. But if she is not meant to be with my brother, no matter how many wolves my father brings here, they won't stand a chance of taking her. So no kid, I am not worried about what is going on.” Slowly he nodded his head, accepting my decision. Smiling at him, I got back up. “Are you hungry?” With a smile of his own, he nodded his head. “Hell yeah.” Chuckling, I walked back over to the stove and dished up two plates handing one to him.
