Chapter 2

Aristide I smiled as I saw my friend Nikos Kostakis approaching the VIP section of the club. This was the opening night of club named Destiny and it took a lot of influence to enter the club let alone book the VIP section. But thankfully I had both the money and the status to get in here. “Hey, did Max say he was coming?” He asked, then he laughed as if realizing how ridiculous his question was. There was no way in hell our reclusive, quiet friend would go to a club on a normal day, let alone on the opening of one. “I just saw Liam though, he was leaving with this gorgeous redhead” I barely paid attention to what he said. My thoughts were interrupted as Sasha Wilkes, Victoria’s secrets current highest paid model started coming my way. She was giving the seductive eyes that she was famous for and I knew that the night would end with her in my bed. A small nagging voice in my head reminded me of the brunch I had tomorrow at my parents’ house with my parents and Aidon, the fiancé of my little sister Olympia. But I brushed it off. I noticed Sasha was standing directly before me so I focused my attention on her. “Are you here alone?” “No, but I don’t think my friend would mind the extra company. Especially one as beautiful as you.” I responded with a wink. She gracefully took her time to sit down next to me but we got up pretty soon to dance to the catchy music. I was in ready to leave by the third song, we were both drunk on desire and I hurriedly excused myself to tell Nikos I was leaving, he gave me a knowing look. We left the club in a hurry but not before I saw the flash of a camera telling me that the paparazzi had seen us. I know this would be a problem but I shoved it to the back of my mind and focused on the raging desire coursing through me. Tomorrow I would deal with the consequences but for tonight I was just going to bask in the moment. I groaned as I opened my eyes welcoming the sunlight that held the beauty of a new day, and almost immediately an intense headache followed. I felt a small feminine hand on my back and I turned around to see the famous model I took to my bed for the night. I slowly got out of bed so that she didn’t wake up. I knew by the time I finished taking my shower she would be gone. Women like her knew that their time with me was for a night. I made a mental note to tell my PA to send her some diamonds and flowers. I finally made my way to the sink and grabbed some Tylenol to stop the throbbing headache that I had. I splashed some water on my face as I looked at myself in the mirror. I noticed the telltale signs of a hangover. I cursed as I remembered that I had a brunch meeting with my parents, little sister and her fiancé. I smiled a little as I pictured my little sister’s happy face as her best friend who she had been in love with since she was a teenager finally proposed. I would do anything to see her happy besides I truly liked Aidon, he truly loved Olympia and he was an astute businessman. A merger of our family businesses through marriage would be profitably for all of us. I stopped daydreaming as I saw the time and realized I had only half an hour to get to my parents’ residence. I could already see the look of disapproval on my mom’s face. Ever since I woke up I had a nagging feeling today would change my life forever, I just couldn’t explain and it made me nervous. An hour later I pulled up at the courtyard of my parent’s mansion. I quickly handed my keys to the head foreman to pack it for me and literally ran to the coffee room. I entered the room panting, stopping all conversions going on. My dad gave me a disapproving look but said nothing. My mom however asked me why I was late. I was about to make up a story when my mom threw a newspaper at me. On the front page was a picture of me and my flavor of the night, Sasha Wilkes about to enter my car. Apparently she was in town for a swim suit edition of the magazine. I also noticed the caption on top of the picture “Playboy billionaire strikes again”. Damn I knew this would get me into trouble. Normally my mom’s just angry because she wants her son to ‘settle down’ as she puts it. However my dad also had a troubled look on his face, when normally he remained quiet and never expressed his disapproval. This was not good, I thought to myself. “Son, we’ve tried our best but the board members seem to have a lack of faith in you due to your clubbing and your irresponsible life style. Some of them believe it is only a matter of time before you knock someone up or worse a woman comes forward claiming to have your child. We both know a scandal like that even if false can destroy your image and create problems for the company. You need to show some stability and commitment in your life otherwise you won’t be getting the company especially if I continue my plans to retire by the end of the year.” He dropped the bombshell on me. “You know we own seventy percent of the company but you need at least eighty percent of acceptance to be the CEO and no board member will vote in your favor because of your current lifestyle. Son, we want your future to be secured. We want to see you serious in all aspects of your life. That includes your relationships, no more flavor of the night affairs. We want you to find a good woman who will support you, someone can settle down with, the right woman who makes you happy. If you at least have a serious girlfriend or maybe fiancée or better still a wife, and you can tone down your wild ways I can guarantee hundred percent votes from the board members to make you CEO. Every one of them trusts in you and your ability as a businessman but they want to know that the company is in safe and matured hands. This company has been in the family for generations. I know you want to pass the legacy to your children one day. I trust you to make the right choice, your mother and I know we raised you well. We know you will make us proud.” My dad finished with a lot of emotion in his slightly shaky voice. The tension was very thick until an excited Olympia threw herself on me ranting about how excited she was that Kevi Sanders was going to be designing her wedding gown. I frowned as I seemed to recollect that name, I remembered it belonged to the designer whose store was at the paradise mini mall. The businesses there seem to be doing quite well, maybe it was time I paid more attention to building more women friendly stores it would be a big change for the company especially if the venture was successful, since we mostly invested in stocks, shipping and building. But opening a string of successful boutiques, restaurants and other mini malls could be a billion dollar idea. Maybe if I was able to manage it and present the idea well the board of directors would see I’m a great asset to the company and I wouldn’t need to get married after all. Though I must admit that the prospect of settling down was beginning to look more tempting since almost everyone around me seemed to be in love and had that spark in their eyes that I know that I lacked. Maybe it’s time I really started getting serious about my life and my future. I made up my mind I was going to partner with the owners of paradise mini mall and convince them to open many more branches of the store with them. I smiled, and I had just the perfect excuse to go see them; Olympia’s wedding. “I would like to be part of the wedding planning” I announced stopping all conversion around me once again, honestly I think it’s a record. Everyone looked at me skeptically except Olympia who was smiling. “Well of course, in fact you can even go with me to see the designer tomorrow, I can’t wait!” She exclaimed once again, well at least I know my future partner is talented. Olympia has been wearing designer clothes for years, she had most of her clothes custom made so in order to impress her and be allowed to design her wedding gown I’m sure the designer had to be very talented. I came out of my thoughts to hear her saying, “…after that we have to go cake tasting and see the wedding planner to select the color themes and a whole lot other things.” She finished, wow, planning a wedding was harder than I thought but I had to do this, I needed access to the owners and this was a perfect opportunity ,plus, I reasoned I’d get to spend time with my sister before the wedding . I still can’t believe the girl who used to force me to play with her dolls with her or have a tea party was getting married. I guess time flies. If she’s getting married and time is flying, why aren’t you settling down? An annoying voice in my mind asked. It’s just that I hadn’t found a woman I could see myself spending the rest of my life with, not that I was looking in the first place. I firmly reminded myself, besides I was enjoying my current lifestyle. Are you? The annoying inner voice asked again. This time I had no way to assure myself so I tuned it out and focused on my surroundings. I noticed Aidon coming my way so I put a smile on my face. I always considered him as a little brother, I guessed now it would be official. “Olympia told me you would be helping to plan the wedding, is that true?” he asked. Straight to point, no pleasantries or formalities, another reason why I liked him. He went straight to the point. I now realized it must be a reason why he was known as a commanding presence in the boardroom. “Yes.” I simply answered. “I’m surprised.” he said honestly, “but as long as she’s happy and you’re ok with it. I’m happy.” I looked at him only to see him gazing at Olympia with an emotion I could only define as love, she finally noticed him staring at her and gave him a shy smile. He smiled back. I looked at him and said, “You really love her.” “More than she will ever know.” Looking back at her I said “I’m glad she’s marrying you.” “Me too, I’m lucky to have her. So damn lucky.” He said and left my side to go and kiss her softly on the forehead. Once again that annoying voice in my head said ‘admit it, you want a love like that’. This time I didn’t try to fight it, yes I do, I really do. I admitted to myself.
