Damon’s POV
Making my way through the big hospital, I went directly to the doctor’s office. I wanted to know how Willow was doing despite the insane gossip flying around but I didn’t let it bother me since no one dared to say anything to my face, so I just shrugged them off.
Everyone’s gaze immediately went to the ground anytime I passed by. Getting to the doctor’s office, I pushed the door open and let myself in.
“Alpha King,” The doctor greeted with a respectful slight bow of his head before lifting his gaze to meet me, “You are here.” He added as he offered me a seat.
“I don’t have too much time to spare, doctor,” I started, “How is she doing? Is she awake now?” I asked.
My eyes stared at his intently, he looked uncertain of something as he carefully scrutinised the file that I assumed to be Willow’s, in front of him.
“She is awake and fine now,” He finally spoke after a while of silence, “I made sure to carry out some tests and I also kept a close watch on her,” he continued.
My eyebrow rose, I was getting impatient. I asked a question which answer I expected to be direct but he’d instead thought of giving me an entire history.
“She’s out of danger but I’m afraid that there might be other things wrong with her.” He added as he handed me a chart.
“Something seems wrong with her brain but in the chart with you, there is nothing physically wrong with her brain.” He added.
My blood boiled in anger but I managed to keep it at bay as I flung the chart back at him before standing to take my leave.
I didn’t need to be here anymore, I knew the exact ward that Willow was in and I should have just gone to see her instead of coming to the doctor first because I thought he might have some important information to share about her.
Stopping when I got to the door, I turned to look at the doctor who swallowed frantically, “Willow is the Luna of this pack,” I said through gritted teeth.
“You don’t speak of the Luna in that manner so I’ll let you off the hook this time but best believe that if you ever make this type of mistake again, you’re going to lose your tongue.” I finished before finally walking out.
Ignoring everyone in the hallway, I made my way to Willow’s ward and when I got there, just before I opened the door, I could hear the maids gossiping.
“He’s so cruel, he pushed her off the stairs and….” Whatever the maid that was currently talking wanted to say got stuck in her throat as soon as she saw me.
They didn’t need anyone to inform them before they all scampered out of the room. My gaze finally landed on Willow and her mouth opened as if on the verge of saying something but it went back shut immediately.
With each step I took towards her, I silently wished that she was going to say something. Talk about the stairs incident or the fact that the only thing that seemed to be flying around was how I’d almost killed her but she didn’t say a word.
After about two minutes of waiting for each other to talk, I cleared my throat and decided to say something since waiting would just mean I was wasting my time.
“How are you feeling now?” I managed to ask. She swallowed before nodding her head affirmatively as an answer to my question.
“Any pain anywhere or any discomfort? The doctor said…..”
“I am fine,” She cut me off before I could even finish my sentence and I was taken aback. She seemed to have gotten some courage after the accident.
“My head still aches but that’s fine.” She chuckled nervously as she finally looked away from me. Silence prevailed again and it was uncomfortable.
I waited for the moment she was going to ask for a divorce or the moment she was going to accuse me for pushing her off the stairs or for watching as she almost lost her life but nothing came out of her mouth.
She looked back at me and her eyes were as though she was about to ask for something. She cleared her throat and I didn’t need a soothsayer to tell me that she was probably considering asking for a divorce.
“Could you please go to the doctor and ask him to discharge me?” She blurted out, jolting me out of my thoughts as I stared down at her in disbelief.
This was not what I was expecting from her after almost losing her life to an accident that the entire pack blamed me for.
“Please, I need to get out of here and out of these horrible hospital clothes.” She pleaded as she grabbed my hand and trapped it between her palms, causing me to freeze instantly.
Everything about Willow had changed, this wasn’t how I remembered her. She barely even looked at me in the eyes but this woman wouldn’t break eye contact until I looked away.
She barely finishes a short sentence whenever she is in front of me because of how much she stammers but this woman gets all of her words out without faltering.
The feel of her touch sent jolts of electricity through me as I lifted my already wide eyes to look at her again. The moon goddess knows how hard I tried but no matter how hard I did, I couldn’t bring myself to look away from her.
It was as though I was trapped, her touch lit up a spark inside me and I could hear my heart thrumming in my head. It felt like everything in the entire world had stopped because the only thing I could hear was the sound of our breaths.
It can’t be possible.
This feeling, it’s like when Zara touches me. It’s the same kind of feeling that I get just knowing that she was mine, the same kind of way I felt when I knew she was my mate.
This touch made me feel like Zara had come back.
My heart started racing, sweats began to break out of my forehead and I could swear that Willow was saying something but all I could think about was Zara.
Quickly, I snapped out of it and pulled my hand away from her hold immediately. She looked surprised but I didn’t care about her.
The tension was beginning to get stronger than I could handle. Closing my eyes, I tried to regulate my breathing but images of Zara flashed through my mind.
Slowly, I pulled away from her, “Hey!” Her voice caused me to open my eyes, which I had no idea was closed in the first place.
“Are you okay?” She asked but I was too taken aback to give her a coherent response, “Are you going to talk to him?” She asked again.
No, I can’t be here, I really can’t take this.
Ignoring her, I walked out of the room as quickly as my legs could carry me. I could hear her calling out to me but the last thing I wanted to do was go back in there.
Ignoring her calls, I walked as fast as I could until I could no longer hear her voice. Gazes were on me as I hurriedly got out of the hospital and I could tell that even my beta was shocked to see me.
“What’s the matter, Alpha Damon?” He asked but I ignored him and went directly to the car. He knew better than to stay behind when I’d already gotten in the car.
The drive back home started, I tried to get myself distracted, to think about something else but my mind, heart, and brain kept going back to Zara and Willow.
I could still feel my heart racing and I rested my back properly as I pressed my temple to suppress the head-splitting sensation I was feeling in my head.
“Willow,” I finally started, “I need you to get her checked properly and I don’t care if you have to summon doctors from other packs, just f*****g get her checked!” I almost yelled.
My heart felt like it was going to jump out of my chest and even my breath had started skipping, I couldn’t get a grip on myself and it was starting to annoy me.
Just twenty minutes ago I was normal with absolutely nothing bothering me and just when I decided to go check on her, I felt like I was starting to lose control.
“Something is seriously wrong with that woman in the ward,” I continued, “She is different, she is not acting like she used to, everything just seems off about her so just make sure you get her checked as soon as possible.” I finished.
The car fell so silent that the only thing that could be heard was the sound of the engine revving and air whooshing.
“W…. Why? Did you notice something fatal when you went to see her?” My beta asked but I had other things to think about instead of answering a baseless question so I completely ignored him.
Nothing seems right. Did Zara come back to me in the form of Willow?
