His name was Makino Shuuya. He had lost his memories 3 years ago. The only image imprinted in his mind was a smile of a woman, tears streaming down her cheeks and her final words "I'm sorry.. my love"
In search of that woman, he decided to employ a detective agency. That's where he met them. The detective duo, the cheerful Synthia, and the serious yet passionate David, the quiet assistant Mayu and the happy go lucky yet serious president, Alex.
For months he searched to regain for his memories, yet as they dive deeper into his memories. the more the ugly truth was revealed. They all were in a dangerous situation, until one day, it all came into c****x.
BANG! "What do you mean Mayu and Synthia has been kidnapped?!" David shouted at the president. Who had lowered his head and looked at his intertwined fingers that rested on his chin. He cared Mayu as a sister ever since she had came to this agency and was distressed to find out this happened when they returned with another clue for Shuuya.
The president looked over at Shuuya, who had shocked look as well and sighed. "The ones who took them was the ones you all were pursuing.. it seems they saw them as an easy targets." Just as David was going to shout again, Alex held up his hand. "Don't worry David, I have already pinpointed her location."

You are..?! Why no, How are you here?
It seems time has finally caught up with you ----
..Even so, just once more.. let me see him one last time.

And so, that was how they decided to infiltrate the building. Unfortunately some traps and battles happened and they ended up seperated. Unfortunately Shuuya was knocked out only to awaken at the sight before him.
There was Mayu chained suspended on the wall opposite of him, unconscious. He noticed he too, was on his knees and chains binded his arms and legs. As he struggled a voice over his right alerted him of another's presence.
CLAP CLAP CLAP
The sounds of clapping brought his eyes to a man dressed in a full white suit. His eyes hidden behind a ballroom mask but his bright golden hair stood out.
"To see the infamous Shuuya being chained to this state hahaha" Pissed at the insult, he struggled some more but the man ignored his struggles and continued. "I wonder who would win this wager. Heh, doesn't matter to me. It only show more entertainment"
"What.. do you mean"
"The choice you see. I wonder which will your friend choose.. the beloved Synthia or the assistant?"
Shuuya panicked when he heard this. "Let her go!!" but the man merely smirked slyly
"Why would I.. ah time is almost up"
At another place, David had chosen a choice he would forever regret.
DING!
"hehehehekHAHAHAHA It seems the choice had been chosen!" Shuuya widened his eyes, unable to tear away his eyes from the now awakening Mayu.
"Noo!! Nonononono-" As he struggled as much as he could the binding didn't loosen, making him helpless to witness her fate. As their eyes met, he could only watch helplessly as she suddenly smiled, as if accepted her fate. Tears fell from her eyes as she looked at him and strangely the man beside him as well.
and she uttered the final words that would break him completely.
"I'm sorry.. my love"
With those eyes looking at him with regret and love, a smile and tear stained cheeks. He realised it all too late as a resounding gunshot echoed the room. The one he had been searching for.. the woman.. had always been by his side.
He froze, his eyes widened and unable to look away. "Ma..yu..?" Why.. Why does she keep smiling--?! whywhywhywhywhywhyWHYWHYWHYWHY?!!!

Even so, an echo sounded in his mind and he didn't notice that it slipped through his lips. "Shii..na" Her eyes widened at the name before with a beautiful heartbreaking smile.. and died.
Standing over the broken form of Shuuya who kept on uttering nonsense and the woman's true name, unable to move and struggle, the man looked at him with a frown. "So you have finally broken" and left him alone, wallowing in his despair and horror.
It wasn't for hours later, that David and Synthia gave up searching for him but he had disappeared. Mayu was too unable to be found. On that day two paths diverged. One seeking the hope of another meeting, another seeking the vengeance of the final truth that was presented before him.
Somewhere else..
Sitting before his desk, Alex moved a chess piece. His eyes flickered to two picture frames sitting on his desk. One was the team just a few days after Shuuya joined. His eyes lingered on both Shuuya and Mayu- no Shiina. Shuuya was staring at Synthia while Mayu was looking at him with sad and hesitant eyes. Another frame held a picture of four. Shiina at the center, a golden blond haired man standing at her left and Shuuya at her right. He himself was behind her, easily seen for he was more than a head taller than her.
"It seems the ticking fate that you have predicted has come, Shiina" He smirked with a dark look in his eyes. "I'm looking forward to this"
