3 The wave crashed onto the shore, barely missing Ivy and Shelly, and rushed back to sea, swiftly capturing everything in its path. “Wow, you had some hold on me,” Shelly said. With awkward effort, she rolled off Ivy and extended her hand to her. “I had no idea you were so strong. You sure got us out of the path of that wave. Are you okay?” “The baby,” Ivy replied, sputtering as she expelled saltwater and scuffled to her feet. Her jeans were soaked to her skin, and her sweater was covered with sand. Although the sun was high in the sky, a brisk chill pierced the wet denim.
