Chapter 8: She's What?

1578 Words
Adonis POV Jo walks in to Achilles’ office with her siblings beside her, they’re all dressed up for the event and I can’t help but notice how beautiful she looks in her pink gown. I want to run to her, but then I remember the situation we’re in and I stop myself. I can feel Penelope's body tense beside me so I grab her hand hoping to ease her discomfort before I won’t be able to do this anymore. “So why don’t we talk about how this deal will be completed.” Lucifer says, he phrased it as a question but we know we have no choice. The siblings -er Angels- all make their way into the office and shut the double doors. Alexius begins to leave the room before Lucifer stops him. “Where do you think you’re going?” “I’m going to get drinks, I don’t think any of us would like to be sober for this s**t show.” He growls back. “I like you already, go on.” Lucifer says sending him off. Everyone gets comfortable and Lucifer takes his seat at Achilles’ desk making my brother pout like a child. Moments later Alexius barges in with a cart full of alcohol and glasses for everyone, “drink up, it’s going to be a long f*****g night.” Once everyone is resettled with drinks in hand we all look to Lucifer waiting for him to begin. Penelope was taking small glances towards Azrael hoping we wouldn’t notice, while he just kept his gaze on her with no shame. “Now I hope you all know that I don’t take pleasure in coming to collect, but a deal is a deal and your parents are in debt.” Lucifer starts off. “Well try a little harder,” Achilles mumbles under his breathe. “Any who, here’s how this will work,” he begins focusing on my brothers and I. “At midnight you three will be granted immortality along with other gifts. You will then leave your little lives here and work for me.” “What exactly will we be doing?” I ask. “Whatever I ask you to do,” Lucifer sneers. “Think of it as being my second in command.” “Okay, so would you be open to taking just one of us? When you made the deal you were only expecting one.” Achilles offered. “As long as the deal is fulfilled, yes I am open to taking one, which one I don’t care you can decide that amongst yourselves.” As if they were eavesdropping through the door, in walked world’s greatest mom and dad. “If you only want one then take Penelope.” I hear her say. How could she be such a cold hearted b***h towards her only daughter? She’s willing to just give her away to the devil for f***s sake. Achilles stands from his seat staring at them in disbelief while Alexius stands in front of Penelope ready to stop anyone who comes close. “Well aren’t you terrible people?” Lucifer chuckles. “You’re absolutely worse than I thought.” Suddenly I feel a burst of energy hit me from behind, it was faint but I figured it was coming from Lucifer. I looked towards the rest of the Angels who stood up in shock looking behind Alexius. Penelope was standing behind him holding onto her arm facing the ground with her eyes closed. I turned to look back and Alexius is clearing her face from a single tear, eyes still closed when we feel another pulse of energy hit us. The second pulse was stronger than the first and before we could comprehend what was happening another one was released knocking us off our feet.  Penelope finally opens her eyes and her once dark chocolate eyes are now glowing gold with specs of white. Before we could get on our feet another pulse hits us keeping us down longer. I look around hoping someone has an idea of what’s going on but they all look just as confused. “Penelope stop!” Achilles screams towards her but it’s no use, her eyes are glazed over and it seems like she is no longer in control of her own body. Boom. Another energy pulse hits us. “She’s an empath!” Lucifer yells towards his siblings. “She’s syphoning everyone’s emotions and amplifying them.”  “She’s what?!?” “You need to create a forcefield around her so we can figure out what to do.” I hear Azrael say to Michael. Before another pulse is released, Michael creates the forcefield surrounding Penelope.  “What do we do now?” I ask. “Everyone needs to calm down long enough for her to no longer be able to syphon your emotions and then we have to let her release the energy.” Lucifer states. Raphael looks at him confused, “We can’t do that Luci, there are humans here and she will destroy the place.” “What choice do we have?!?!” He screams back. Jo looks at everyone before speaking “An empath hasn’t been born since”  “Don’t say her name!” Lucifer cuts Jo off before she can finish. “The soulmate bond.” I hear Remiel speak up, while we look at her in confusion. “The soulmate bond you idiots. If Azrael is her soulmate he should be able to feed off her energy and share some of her pain. Once you release her from the forcefield he needs to be quick enough to hold her and it could work.” “And what if it doesn’t?” Alexius asked. “Then we’ll have a lot of explaining to do to Father.” She replies. “We can’t just do that and hope for the best. Maybe we can keep her in the forcefield while she calms down.” Achilles suggested. “We can’t do that the energy in there isn’t being released, she is just recycling it again, it’ll destroy her to stay in there. This is our only chance.” Remiel counters. Azrael walks towards Penelope and releases his wings, they’re different than Jo’s, his are silver not white. “When I say go release her, if this doesn’t work I’ll try to contain her energy to minimize the damage,” he commands looking at his brother.  We all stand back waiting for the moment Penelope is released and I notice my parents are cowering in fear in the corner. Good they deserve to be afraid they did this to her. As soon as this is over they won’t be able to hide from me. Azrael gives Michael a nod and the forcefield dissipates. Azrael rushes to Penelope holding her in an embrace and his wings cocoon her body. We feel a small pulse released but it was nothing like the last few, this must mean that it’s working. We stand there silently waiting for Penelope to come back to us. “I hope this works,” I say looking at my brothers. Only then did I notice Alexius standing next to Remiel… Holding hands. What the f**k. I look over at Azrael whose wings are receding and see him holding Penelope who at this point is hysterical. She falls to her knees sobbing and Azrael falls with her still holding on to her. She looks up at us and her eyes are now back to their natural dark brown color, but they are laced with pain as I see tears continuing to fall down her face.  “I’m sorry,” she cries out. “I’m so sorry, I didn’t mean to hurt anyone. I j-just could feel everything and I-I was suffocating, I couldn’t hold it in anymore.” Azrael lifts her up and begins to carry her towards us as she continues to cry. “She needs to rest,” Azrael begins. “Can I take her somewhere?” “Yeah, we can take her to her room,” I say as I’m about to walk out of the office. “It’s okay, I’ll show him where it’s at,” Jo interrupts. I nod and they disappear a few seconds later. “Well wasn’t that an interesting turn of events,” Lucifer says as he’s fixing his tie. Oh god I hope we’re not forced to leave her, she needs us now more than ever. “Now where were we?” He continues, “it looks like I’ll have to leave you boys here to look over our new little empath. But that does leave a debt unpaid.” He says as he looks towards our parents. “I’ll just have to take you two, but since you’re of no use to me, I’ll just take your souls.”  Lucifer walks towards them with a devilish smile, and now I know why they call it a devilish smile. Our parents look at Achilles Alexius and I as if asking for our help, but we just stand back and let Lucifer do what needs to be done. He stands before and with his hands he reaches inside their chests and pulls out a glowing essence. It’s their souls, and they’re dark, I would have imagined them to be a golden light, but these were dark almost black with hints of red in them. “Now boys, I would prepare yourselves, humans can’t survive long without their souls, so say goodbye to mummsie and daddy.” “No please!” I hear my mom beg while dad is just standing there trying to process what’s about to happen. “You can’t do this to us, that wasn’t the deal.” “If I were you, I’d go and enjoy my last minutes of living and not wasting it begging or apologizing,” Achilles says from behind me. They look at us with disgust clear on their faces, “Where did we every go wrong with you four,” dad spits out. “You’re mistake was being selfish and not showing Penelope the love she deserves,” Alexius screams out. “Now leave!!” Alexius’ voice rumbles through the room and they look at him in fear before they run out of the office and into the party. We hear a collective gasp from the party guests and through the crack in the door we see them laying on the ground, dead.
