JOPHIEL POV
“Hey Remi, can I come in?” I say as I knock on her door and wait for an answer.
“Remi please talk to me.”
No answer.
“I’m coming in whether you like it or not,” she opens the door before I force my way in.
She’s been really depressed lately, ever since the night of the party, I’m not sure what’s been going on with her but she’s been shutting everyone out.
“What do you want Jophiel?” She says with a tired look on her face and still wearing pajamas at 5 in the afternoon. She has never really called me by my full name it’s always been Jo or JoJo, she’s obviously annoyed with me.
“Talk to me Rem, maybe I can help.”
I see she’s struggling with deciding whether she should open up to me, but just before she’s about to open her mouth in walks Gabi.
“You look like s**t Remiel, what the hell happened,” she says scrunching up her nose in disapproval.
Gabi stayed with Penelope for about a week while Azrael went to find Luci, from what she’s been texting me they were having fun. Penelope has more control over herself and Gabi has even managed to become friends with the guys. She’s been keeping me updated on Adonis since he’s still refusing to talk to me, and I’m glad he isn’t suffering too much, apparently Penelope has been involuntarily syphoning him.
“Well look who’s back, I thought you would be attached at the hip with your new little boy toys,” Remi spat out. “What does it feel like having three brothers available to you?”
“What the f**k is wrong with you, Adonis is Jo’s soulmate, why would I ever do that to her?” Gabi scoffs.
“I don’t know you tell me, you seem awfully chummy.”
“Remi stop, this isn’t you,” I begged her, this wouldn’t go well if she kept this up. She’s strong but Gabi could even take down Michael if she tried hard enough.
“Isn’t it though,” Gabi debated. “You went on a f*****g rampage when your human lover was punished, I can only imagine what you’re thinking of doing now that your soulmate is involved.”
Soulmate?
Who’s her soulmate?
Remi glared at Gabi telling her to shut up, this is going to get worse before it gets better.
“What are you talking about Gabi? Remi have you met your soulmate?”
“Oh you haven’t told your favorite sissy about your soulmate,” she says before she faces me. “Not only did she meet him, but she slept with him, are you embarrassed of him is that why you haven’t told her?” She asks looking towards Remi, the air becoming thick with tension.
“Shut up Gabrielle, you don’t know what you’re talking about,” Remi responds.
“Or what?” Gabi threatened stepping up to her only inches separating them.
“Okay, why don’t we calm down before we say something we regret, please Gabi we just got her back,” I plead.
“No JoJo, she’s being selfish, she’s strengthened the bond and hasn’t accepted him she’s just hurting him.”
“There is no bond okay!!” Remi yells out her voice cracking underneath all the emotion.
“Isn’t there, look at you, you’re falling apart. You’re not only hurting him but you’re also hurting Penelope, she has been unknowingly syphoning him and she thinks she’s only been dealing with her and Adi’s emotions.”
Wait Penelope?
That means it must be Achilles or Alexius.
“I’m not hurting anyone because there is no bond,” Remi sneers.
“Fine. If that’s what you want to believe then so be it, but stop thinking solely about yourself and either accept him or let him go. He doesn’t need this pain and neither does Penelope,” Gabi recommended before storming off.
“Why didn’t you tell me?” I ask turning towards Remiel.
“There was nothing to tell, I can’t do this again. The first time almost destroyed me,” she explains looking down at her feet.
She was right, it did almost destroy her, for awhile she was okay with the outcome but it was slowly deteriorating her mental state. She went on a killing spree in Siciliy, about 25,000 humans were found dead, we had to cover it up with an earthquake. We leveled the city, and produced a tsunami to cover up all the damage she had inflicted. It was devastating.
After that Father had her locked up for a few decades until she could come to terms with reality.
“This time is different Remi, no one is stopping you, no one but yourself.”
“There’s nothing to discuss, so if that’s all then you can go,” she coldly states.
“Fine!” I scream following in Gabi’s footsteps and slamming the door behind me.
I make my way down the stairs only to find Gabi angrily rummaging through the kitchen cabinets. Gabi was a stress eater so I’m sure she’s looking for her favorite snack to calm herself down.
“What are you looking for?”
She continued on to the fridge before pausing to answer my question. “The peanut butter I know Mary just did the grocery shopping so where is it at?”
“It’s in the pantry,” I say pointing to the double doors.
“Thanks,” she mumbles.
“So which one is it?” I ask referring to Remi’s soulmate.
“Alexius.”
“Why are you so upset about this, I get that she’s hurting him but she’s also your sister and you’re defending him more?”
“I don’t know okay!” She yells at me looking defeated. “I just— I’m drawn to him. I don’t know why but the way he thinks of Remi...”
“I want that,” she finishes.
“Like in general or from him specifically?”
“From him,” she whispers still looking down at her feet. She’s never been one to be vulnerable and I know it’s taking a lot for her to open up right now.
“He’s her soulmate Gabi...”
“I know,” she says finally looking up at me. I can see tears welling up in her eyes, there’s no way father could have made this mistake. He wouldn’t want two of his daughters fighting over one man, we’re better than this. He may just be testing them, right?
I walk into the pantry to get her peanut butter, when I walk back out she’s sitting on the kitchen counter fiddling with her fingers. I grab a spoon from the dishwasher and give her a big spoonful of peanut butter before I struggle to hop on the counter. Raphael walks into the kitchen wearing his signature leather jacket and ripped jeans, watching me struggle to jump on the counter and swiftly picks me up like a rag doll placing me on top, “you didn’t have to do that, I had it handled.”
He smirks at me before rolling his eyes, “yeah, I’m sure your stubby little legs could have managed.”
As if he is just now registering Gabi’s state he walks over to her, standing right in front of her trying to assess the situation. He notices the jar of peanut butter and the spoonful in her hand that she hasn’t even bothered to eat.
“Gabi what’s wrong?” He asks as he cups her face trying to force her to look up, but she hates anyone seeing her weak so she just looks to the other side.
“Jo what the hell happened?” He asks me knowing he isn’t going to get any answers from her.
I think back to how shifters get second chance mates if they’re lucky, so maybe Gabi is Alexius’ second chance mate. But that would mean that she never had a soulmate and this was all planned.
Why would Father do this?
“I think she found her soulmate,” I whisper, still not knowing if it’s true or not.
“What?!?” He yells out. “Did he hurt you? Who is the son of a b***h? Who do I need to take care of?”
So many questions are being thrown out and I’m not sure if it’s my place to answer any of them, so I sit there looking towards Gabi who is now playing with her hands again looking nervous.
“Not unless you’re willing to fight your own sister,” she says giving us a half hearted laugh, but I can tell that she’s in pain behind her million watt smile.
Gabi has always been the strongest, even more so than Michael, even when he faltered, she didn’t. Raph just looks at both of us confused with his eyebrows furrowed trying to understand what she’s saying.
“Jo what the hell did you do this time?”
“What?! I didn’t do anything, you know you have another sister right?” I defend.
“Remi? Whats she talking about Gabi?”
“Alexius…” she starts. “I think he’s my soulmate, but he was Remi’s first. She won’t accept him, but she also refuses to let him go, she won't even acknowledge their bond. He’s suffering not knowing why and I just have to watch it happen because he doesn’t feel the same way.”
“That can’t be possible, why would Father give you Remi's soulmate, that would mean…”
“I know,” I finish, letting him know that I had the same thoughts.
“So what are you going to do?” He asks looking at Gabi.
“There’s nothing I can do, he’s hers, and she’s my sister. I won’t do anything to hurt her.” She explains solemnly.
Tears begin to fall from her hazel eyes, staining her beautifully tanned skin before hitting her jeans. Raph looks at me not knowing what to do, we’ve never seen her like this before, we’ve never had to comfort her, it’s always been the other way around.
I do the only thing I can think of, so I hold her hand and give her a soft squeeze. Raph cups her face again, only this time she doesn’t look away, “hey we’ll figure this out, it’ll be okay I promise.” She nods and he kisses her forehead before pulling her in for a hug, she wraps her one free arm around him and I am shocked to say the least. I have never seen Gabi be so vulnerable and here she is crying her heart out.
“Please don’t tell anyone,” she manages to speak in between sniffles. “I don’t want anyone to know or pity me, especially not Remi. You guys know how she gets territorial.”
“Pinky Promise,” I say to her with a light smile on my face while putting out my pinky for her to match. She lets out a soft chuckle before letting go of Raph and soon we’re all holding pinkies, promising to keep her secret, while I also promise to take care of her.
