ALEXIUS POV
“Did she just willingly give up her grace?” Gabi asked Raz.
“Summon Michael, now.” He commands.
“Come on,” she says to me as she grabs my hand and pulls me towards the backyard.
I feel the sparks flowing through me again with her touch but she doesn’t seem to notice. Is this just one sided?
“Where are we going?” I ask.
“You have to summon Michael, if I go looking for him it will take too long, and he’s old school and refuses to carry around a phone.”
How am I supposed to summon an Angel, I’ve prayed before, when my mom used to force us to go to church, but an Angel has never shown up. At least not one that I’ve seen before.
“Ok so what do I do?” I ask.
“So, close your eyes and get on your knees in a praying position, now repeat after me,” I nod getting down on my knees as she said.
“Archangel Michael”
“Archangel Michael”
“I summon thee, in the name of Archangel Gabrielle.”
“I summon thee, in the name of Archangel Gabrielle.”
I open one of my eyes looking around, to see if it worked but nothing.
“Are you sure this is going to wo...” Gabi cuts me off by holding my face and blowing a cold breathe into my mouth.
I feel a cold breeze wash over me and a large thud from boots behind me. I open my eyes and see Gabi standing in front of me, I glance behind me and see Michael, this man is huge. I thought my brothers and I were big, but this guy is next level, I guess that’s why he’s God’s number 1.
“Why am I here Gabrielle?” He asks in a low tone.
She looks at me then looks back at Michael, “it’s Remiel, she gave up her Grace.”
“She what?!?” He bellows.
“We think she gave up her grace, her eyes flashed black and she ran off afterwards...”
“What happened? Why would she do that?” Michael asks.
We walk inside the house, find our way into the family room and begin explaining everything that happened. To say this wasn’t my most proud moment is an understatement, maybe this wouldn’t have happened if I were able to keep my d**k in my pants. I think Michael had the same idea, because he just glared at me the entire time. I had a feeling he was going to attack me any minute, maybe Gabi had the same idea because she was standing in between Michael and I the entire time.
Raz seemed even more pissed than Michael, Michael seemed cooler and more collected, but he was gone on celestial business; Raz was here the whole time, and he didn’t even know about it. His sisters were on the verge of tearing each other apart, and he was clueless.
Apparently only Jo, Gabi, and Raphael knew about the whole soulmate mix-up, but they decided to keep it a secret for Remiel’s sake.
“So, let me get this straight, this dumbass here,” Michael says pointing to me, “rejected Remiel, a f*****g Archangel?”
“It was more like I accepted her not wanting anything to do with me.” I added. “I didn’t even know that she was my soulmate.”
“So, you just sleep with anyone who gives you the time of day?” He asked menacingly.
“I didn’t say I’m proud of my decisions, but I really tried with Remiel, she just said she wanted nothing to do with me.”
Gabi walks up to Michael, “please don’t be mad at me Michael, I swear I didn’t intend for any of this to happen, I tried to keep my distance for Remi. I tried to give her time to make a decision, but she wouldn’t accept the bond and he accepted that.”
Michael hugs Gabi, patting her back, “I know this isn’t your fault Gabrielle, it’s just difficult,” he hesitates to continue. “It’s difficult to know that Remiel is still acting like this, I thought this was in the past.”
He lets go of Gabi who then sits in the seat next to me, Raz is leaning against the wall looking annoyed as f**k and Michael stands in the middle trying to figure out what to do.
“So where is the little empath?” Michael asks Azrael.
“She’s sleeping, it took a lot out of her.”
“Yes, well killing a celestial is no easy task,” he says looking towards Raz.
“That wasn’t her fault!” Azrael defends. “Remiel was about to kill Gabrielle and Alexius for standing in the way.”
“I didn’t say it was her fault but she loses control easily, she’s a danger to everyone.”
“You aren’t f*****g taking my sister away!!” I growl. “You’ll have to go through my brothers and I. Besides, I doubt Lucifer would be pleased to know you killed his only sons.” I spat out the last sentence.
I didn’t like referring to Lucifer as my father, but if it would help keep Penelope safe then I guess I’ll be celebrating Father’s Day with him this year. I wonder if he like coffee mugs, I can get him one that says “#1 Dad,” but I digress.
Michael looked at me surprised for a second. I don’t think he knew that Lucifer helped create us, and I just blurted it out. That means that his siblings didn’t tell him, and if he’s anything like Achilles, he will be furious for being left out of the loop.
“He’s your what?” Michael turns to me angrily.
“Oh, you didn’t know, your dear brother created us from his essence. What was it he called us, baby celestials?”
“Alexius stop talking.” Gabi looked at me with worried eyes.
“No, enough secrets,” Azrael responds. “Tell him everything, if we’re going to get Remi back, we can’t keep omitting the truth from one another.”
“There is no saving Remiel,” Michael begins to explain. “She not only tried to kill one of her own, but her own sister and she willingly gave up her grace. She’s not coming back.”
Gabi looks at Michael, like she already knows what he is asking them to do, but refuses to acknowledge it. “I’m not doing it,” she says.
“You have no choice Gabrielle; she is a danger to us all.” Michael commands. “Azrael, we’ll be needing your scythe.”
“I’m not going to hunt my sister down,” Raz responds.
Michael looks angry beyond compare, “what part of having no choice do you two not understand, she isn’t Remiel anymore. The sister you two knew is gone. Now take care of it, I have business to attend. And don’t call me back here until you have Remiel in your custody.”
“And you,” Michael turns his attention to me. “Don’t think you’re getting off this easy, you, your brothers, and Lucifer will face me for your indiscretions.”
After Michael gave his orders he left, leaving Gabi and Raz looking defeated. They said they didn’t want to put their siblings through having to hunt down Remiel, so they’ll be taking care of it themselves. Hopefully it’s enough, as much as I hate to admit it, Remiel went off the deep end and she’s willing to kill them, I don’t think they’re too willing to do the same.
They said that Raphael and Jo will be stopping by, but we’re not allowed to say why Gabi and Raz are gone. Jo didn’t hesitate in agreeing to come, I think she’s been missing Adonis, and the i***t has been ignoring her lately.
Raz goes upstairs to let Penelope know that he’ll be gone for a while, and Gabi stays down stairs fidgeting with her fingers.
She’s pacing around waiting for Raz to come back down and I can’t help that my gaze keeps on finding her.
“Can we talk Gabi?”
“I don’t think this is a good time Alexius.”
I stand in front of her and hold her still by placing my hands on her arms. “Will there ever be a good time?” I ask hoping she can’t think of one.
“I guess not...”
“Gabi, I like you, a lot. I’m not sure if it’s because you’re my soulmate, but even if you’re not, I know I want to be with you. I want to be around you all the time, you encompass every thought that crosses my mind, I want you to think of me like that. I accept you, soulmate or not.”
She looks up at me, her eyes glistening with hope, “why?”
“Why what?” I ask confused.
“Why are you accepting me, you could have had Remi, she’s beautiful.”
I shake my head and place my hand on her cheek, causing her to lean into my touch like earlier, except this time she doesn’t look away.
“You’re kind even when people don’t deserve it, you’re strong even when you’re on the verge of breaking down, you love fiercely even though it hurts you to do so. I want to be on the receiving end of your love Gabi. I don’t want Remiel, what I felt for her is child’s play compared to what I feel for you. She may be beautiful, but your beauty is incomparable, you emanate goodness which makes you all that more gorgeous. And these eyes,” I say as I run my thumbs through her eyelashes. “I don’t think I’ve ever seen such magnificent eyes.”
She jumps up and wraps her arms around my neck making me do the same with her waist. I bury my face in the crook of her neck, taking a deep breath and memorizing her scent, she smells so sweet, like honey and cinnamon.
I open my eyes to feel a weird wave pass through me, except when I take in my surroundings, we aren’t in the family room anymore, we’re in the old treehouse my brothers and I shared.
Gabi leans her face back to meet mine without letting go of my neck, “did you just shimmer?”
“What is shimmer?”
“It’s like demon teleportation.”
“Well I guess I did, Lucifer did say he had to get our —gifts— from somewhere.”
“Why here though?” She asks looking around at the old treehouse.
“I’m not sure, I just felt an overwhelming sense to keep you safe, and this place was always a safe haven for my brothers and I.”
“That’s cute, you still feel safe in your little treehouse,” she giggled.
“Hey that’s not fair I couldn’t hel…” she cuts me off with a quick kiss on the lips.
“Do you want to take us back?” She asks.
“I’m not really sure on how to do that.”
“Just focus on where we are, and on where you want to be, your body should do the rest.”
I do as she says and after I feel another wave pass through me were back in the family room. This time when I open my eyes, I find my sister making out with her boyfriend and I contemplate just shimmering away.
“Woah where the hell did you two come from?” Penelope asks getting up from underneath Raz and fixing her shirt.
“I just learned how to shimmer,” I announce proudly.
“I’ve been waiting for you Gabrielle,” Azrael emphasized.
Gabi finally lets go of me and faces him, “yeah, well I’m sure P was keeping you pretty busy.”
“Not the point, are you ready to go?”
“Yeah, I’ll meet you outside.”
Raz and P walk out the front door and wait by the car. I grab Gabi by the waist before pulling her in, she places her hands on my chest to steady herself.
“Just promise you’ll come back, I just found you.” I say.
“Don’t worry about it, we know what we’re doing. Call me if you need anything, or if it’s an emergency, you can just shimmer to me.”
She gives me a quick peck on the lips and then makes her way to the passenger seat of the car. They drive off and P comes to stand by me at the front door and I have never felt so helpless. I know Penelope can feel what I’m feeling because her body tenses up and she grabs onto my hand.
“This isn’t going to have a happy ending; I can feel it.” P says almost inaudibly.
