Chapter 5: Black and white

Tamara’s pov “I don’t know what you think you can achieve in these 6 months. But when they are over I will kill your daughter.” He said. I was just relieved that he didn’t tell them we were mates, that it didn’t matter that he threatened me. “That is what you are here for?” Mom said, rolling her eyes. Jennifer and I went to the guest rooms to check if they were ready yet. They were cleaned a few days ago, so all we needed to do was just change the sheets. “He is so hot.” Jennifer said, and I just shrugged. “You don’t see it?” she asked me, and I shook my head. “He is attractive, but I wouldn’t go as far as calling him hot.” I said, and she rolled her eyes. “It’s because you only have your eyes on him.” She said, and I found myself blushing. “You have never said a word to him, and you have had a crush on him since high school.” She said, and I just shrugged. “It’s okay. Maybe one day I will gather the courage to talk to him.” I said, and she just nodded. We finished up and went downstairs to find my entire family staring down at Alpha Darius and his uncle. “The rooms are ready.” Jennifer said, and my mom looked at me. “Take Alpha Darius to his new room and Jennifer take Bane to his room.” My mom said, and I nodded. “This way Alpha.” I said as I led him to his room. He didn’t say a word as we walked to his room, and I was honestly glad he didn’t. I am glad that we won’t have the awkward talk about us being mates. But we have to talk, right? That way, we can reject each other. But I also don’t want to be the one to bring it up. It’s not like I would be able to bring it up even if I could. I went to the door of his bedroom and then opened it for him before turning around to look at him. “This will be your room. Good night, Alpha.” I said and turned to leave. He didn’t say anything, so he went inside the room and slammed the door. I walked downstairs and found everyone sitting around, and they seemed stressed. “We will leave tomorrow. Will you be okay?” Mom asked us. “We will be fine mom, even grandma will come once in a while to check on us.” Rowan said. “Yes, Mom. We will be okay.” Austin said as he sat next to our mother. Austin has always been mom’s favourite when growing up. I think it is because he looks a lot like our father and is just as gentle as dad. But he can also be vicious, just like our mother, on the other hand. I am not like any of my parents. Rowan has my mother’s black hair and dad’s brown eyes, but also mom’s attitude. “We will be okay, don’t worry.” I added, and she nodded. I looked at my mother, and something seemed to be bothering her. They aren’t going on a vacation, there is something more to this. If they were going on a vacation, then why is mom so stressed? Dad has his usual gentle smile, which is strange because of everything that happened today. “You should go to sleep, from tomorrow it will be rough.” Mom said, and she kissed my forehead. I watched as she hugged Rowan and Austin as well and my Dad did the same. Something is definitely wrong. My mother doesn’t show affection for no reason. I went to my room and couldn’t even close my eyes to sleep. I don’t want to have that dream again. I can’t see my mother die. Something seems to be stressing my parents as well. So I can’t burden them further. I went straight to the library to see if I could find information on the women in black. But it’s a stretch really if I am being honest. Maybe they aren’t wearing black but another dark colour that appears black because the world is in black and white. I sat in the library and tried reading, but I couldn’t find anything which was expected. I am living with werewolves, so the only way I can find information is if I go to my mom’s personal library. And I will need to tell her what I want there because I have never been interested in the history of magic. So, the only plan would be to sneak in, I got up from the library floor and went back home. I stopped by the library. I had the candles and the salt I needed to be able to open the library without the key. I sat down and started chanting the spell, but a door opened, startling me. I turned to look in the direction of the noise and found Alpha Darius standing there staring at me. He just looked at me without saying anything. “Wait, is there something burning?” I asked, still looking at him. He looked in front of me, and there really was something burning. The door to the library was on fire. I quickly got up to try to find a way to extinguish the fire. “Come on Tamara, relax.” I said to myself, looking at the growing fire. Mom and Dad quickly ran to the hall and mom put out the fire the moment she got there. “What are you doing?” She asked me, and I tried avoiding her gaze and my eyes landed on Alpha Darius. Mom turned to look at him, and he just went back to his room without saying a word. “I couldn’t sleep, so I wanted to practise a spell. I was using this door as an experiment.” I said, and mom shrugged. She took off her ring. This ring was given to every daughter of the Spark family. It’s a key that can unlock almost any room. “You don’t have to sneak in, from now on it’s all yours and your brothers.” Mom said. “You could have burned the house down kiddo.” Dad said, and I just smiled. “I am so sorry.” I said, and he smiled. “It’s okay, now go and get some rest.” Mom said as they went back to their room. “Clean that mess up.” Mom yelled as they were walking away. I cleaned up the mess and went straight to my room shortly after that. I looked at the ring. This means I would even be able to access the library and grandmother’s house. Will I be able to find answers there?
