Tamara’s pov
I woke up from a nightmare and someone knocked on my door.
I caught Ross’s scent, which made me wonder why he would come to me so early in the morning.
I looked at the clock, and it was still around 4 am.
I got up and opened the door to find him standing there dressed in training clothes.
“You have five minutes to change,” he said, and then walked away.
Wait, does this mean that training starts now?
I got changed. I like running in the morning, so I am in.
I went downstairs and found him waiting for me.
“Let’s go,” he said and walked out, I followed after him and he stopped.
“I spent the entire day yesterday looking around.
And I found the perfect route for this lesson,” he said.
“So, what will we be doing?” I asked him and he smiled.
“Running, the first lesson is learning how to run,” he said, and I nodded.
“So, today’s goal and lesson is that you need to catch me,” he said, and I looked at him confused.
“I need to catch you?” I asked him and he nodded.
“That’s all you need to do, all you have to do is catch me,” he answered, and I nodded.
“Are you ready?” he asked me, and I nodded.
He started running and I started chasing after him
. I jog every day, so I always thought I was in good shape, but he taught me that I was wrong.
He was fast, almost as fast as Alpha Darius if I am being honest.
I couldn’t even get close to him no matter how much I tried to run.
And I could tell that he wasn’t even running at full speed at that moment.
I tried catching up to him but nothing, and I ran after him until I couldn’t anymore.
“Do I have to run after you? I mean you are really fast,” I said, and he handed me a bottle of water.
“This training is to help you be on par with Darius.
And in order to do that you need to be on par with me,” he answered.
“You said you trained Alpha Darius.
Then why do you guys have such a hostile relationship?” I asked him and he just shrugged.
“We have different values and beliefs,” he answered, and I nodded.
“What now? I couldn’t catch you,” I said, and he just shrugged.
“I didn’t expect you to do so. But from tomorrow you are going to have to try harder.
We will do this training until you can catch me,” he said, and I looked at him surprised.
“What?
But what if I can’t catch you?
Time will be moving, and I have to practise other things than my speed,” I said, and he nodded.
“I heard that Darius killed someone that night, the first night you met him,” he said, and I nodded.
“It was some Alpha’s son,” I answered, and Ross looked me straight in the eyes.
“Did you see anything?
Did you see him move or were you just caught by surprise when the man died?” he asked me.
I looked at him, and he smiled as if he already knew the answer to his question.
“I didn’t, he moved so fast, he was faster than lightning,” I answered, but Ross shook his head.
“It’s not that he was fast, it’s just that you were slow,” he explained.
I have trained with my father and Uncle Bryan; how come they didn’t tell me all these things?
They always complimented me about how fast I am.
“They didn’t lie to you, whoever told you that you were fast was correct.
I am just faster and so is Darius,” Ross explained, and I looked at him.
He smiled, “I am here, I will push you and I will be here all the way,” he added.
“You are very fast and, from the look of things strong as well.
Why train me to kill Darius? Why haven’t you killed him yourself?” I asked him, and he chuckled, but it was filled with pain.
“I would have done that if I could.
Every master hopes that their student would succeed them.
I trained Darius so he could be stronger than me, and now he is.
At the level he is now, I can’t do anything,” he answered, and then looked at me.
“But I saw potential in you.
I want you to surpass me.
That’s all I can do, so I will do that,” he answered, and then opened a bottle of water and started drinking.
“Figure out a way to make yourself faster.
You need to catch me.
The sooner you are able to catch me, the sooner we move on to the second phase of this training,” he said and walked away.
I just sat down and watched as the sun was rising and got that first light dose.
I got showered and went downstairs for breakfast.
“So will you join us for pack training today?” Stanley asked.
I looked at him, “of course she will be joining us, he will be there,” Jennifer said.
“Do you still have a crush on him? But he isn’t your mate,” Rowan said, frowning.
“So what?” I asked him and he just shrugged.
“I think that you are just being dramatic.
Why would you go out of your way to get some random guy to like you when you have someone the moon goddess made just for you?” Rowan asked, shaking his head.
“What if her mate doesn’t want her?” Alpha Darius suddenly commented with a smirk on his face.
“I highly doubt that any guy you reject a gem like yourself is an i***t,” Ross commented.
“I wouldn’t be offended if I met my mate, and he rejected me,” I said, and Ross looked at me surprised.
“So, I am guessing you don’t believe in the mate bond?
Is it because your parents aren’t mates?” he asked me, and I shook my head.
“Maybe it could be that, but I just find the mate bond pretentious.
How can I expect someone I just met to love me?
How can I expect them to accept me?
I want the love part to happen before the mating bid,” I answered, and he smiled.
“You sound like a really mature person.
This boy you like must be very lucky,” Ross added.
I heard Alpha Darius scoff at this, which made everyone look at him.
“What about you, Alpha? Do you believe in the mate bond?” Stanley asked him.
“Come on brother, it’s obvious he doesn’t,” Rowan said, shaking his head.
“It would have been funny if you two were mates,” Jennifer said pointing at me and Alpha Darius.
We both looked at each other and I saw him smirk at that.
“And what if we were mates?
What would be funny about that?” he asked Jennifer.
“It’s obvious, you are a ruthless Alpha who is after her position.
She wants someone who will love her, and you are obviously not capable of loving someone,” Jennifer answered.
“In other words, you are a monster who is not capable of love,” she added.
Alpha Darius just smiled at this.
“I am a monster and I guess your friend is a goddess who would never love a monster,” he said, and then looked at me.
“Yes, our Tamara is a goddess,” Stanley said as he patted my head.
Alpha Darius just took a sip of his juice and nodded.
“Sister, would you want to be Alpha Darius’s mate?” Rowan suddenly asked as I was taking a sip of my juice and I nearly choked.
I looked at him, “what?” I asked him and he smiled.
“If you were mates with Alpha Darius would you reject him or accept him as your mate?” he rephrased the question,
but the answer was the same thing.
I am mates with him, the moment I saw him the idea of rejecting him never came to mind.
I mean I told myself that he didn’t reject me because he would fall weak, and it was not the right time.
But why didn’t I reject him?
I mean him being weak would benefit me in some ways, right?
Then why am I not using this matebond against him?
Why haven’t I rejected him yet?
