Ch 1-3 Milena and Trouble

1542 Words
"How could the palace not warn us about this matter? What were they thinking?" grumbled the old fairy who was beside Gustraf. "How unwise!" he continued, furious. "This is just a rumor, that's why the kingdom did not give an official warning. You must not tell this to anyone! The citizens will panic and they will revolt asking for protection from the kingdom! I could be in trouble! We could be in trouble!" Gustraf pulled the fairy's collar by the collar, his eyes bulging sharply. "O-okay! We won't tell anyone, will we?" He glanced at the other fairies who were now nodding quickly. Gustraf heaved a sigh of relief, his grip released and he slumped back into the chair. "Just remember your promise and don't wander off in the dark right now." He pursed his lips, exasperated. "Gustraf, where did you hear this information from?" said Grace, curious. "Oh! That..." Gustraf was just about to tell him someone slammed the entrance loudly while shouting in a frenzy: "Disaster! Curse! Calamity! That damned fairy!" They all turned to look at the fairy who had just entered, his face pale white, eyes bulging with horror, as if they had just seen death. "What? Why are you shouting like that?" Gustraf asked, curious. "You won't believe it! That damned fairy, this time has gone too far!" his face was red like a tomato, his chest heaving up and down. "What happened this time?" Alfred walked over to the one who had just entered. "He ruined our winter supplies! That girl is so mean!" he shouted in a shrill tone, his hand tugging at Alfred's collar, eyeballs almost popping out of place. They all gasped. Their supplies were priceless treasures, if they didn't have enough supplies for this year, there was little chance that they would be able to last through the winter that would soon arrive. "Wait! What do you mean by spoiling the supplies?" Gustraf narrowed his eyes. "She made a hole in the supply tree! The lake water got into it! All our supplies floated downstream!" he cried in a nearly exhausted voice. " EVERYTHING!" he continued languishingly with hands waving in the air, then slumped down onto the floor. The tavern suddenly in a commotion, they looked panicked and looked desperate. If that was true, then they would have a hard time during the winter. Worst of all was the long famine that would engulf them. Their supply of honey was elsewhere, but that could only sustain them until mid-season. And who else likes to eat honey every day for breakfast, lunch, and dinner? If they started from scratch, they would only be able to reap half of what they earned—and that too would have to work all day without rest. The air was getting colder by the day, especially with the rumors of dark magician passing by on the main road. Everything went awry! "This must have been a mistake! Milena couldn't have done such a cruel thing!" defended Alfred. He swept his eyes across the tavern’s occupants, but all he got were angry and disappointed looks. "Milena isn't that bad..." he continued in a half-whisper. Alfred's face was far from happy at that moment. "We'd better go to Mrs. Malissa to confirm this tragedy!" Frida suggested, hands moving restlessly. "You're right, let's go!" cried Grace. Immediately, the Rose Team left the place and headed for the supply tree which was five meters to the west. Lucinda looked weak, either because she was still reminded of the rumors of dark magician or because her hard work of gathering supplies had vanished in the blink of an eye. They flew as fast as they could to the supply tree, along the way they saw the fairies frantically, crying, wailing, and various kinds of behavior that was branded almost insane by those who saw it. The four of them started to look worried, the closer they got to the tree, the more anxious their hearts became. "Do you think she knows that one of us threw the strawberry at her?" Frida glanced at Alfred. "You know what? Milena?" "I can't believe Milena is that bad." He frowned. "If this is true, it's all your fault, Grace!" Lucinda shot an angry look at Grace who was flying in front of her. "No way! She's an i***t! She even blamed the poor squirrel! And talked to it! Crazy, right?" Grace returned Lucinda's gaze, she didn't want to be blamed for the tragedy that befell their village. "Maybe you shouldn't have done that to—" Lucinda was about to finish her sentence, but the words stopped when they arrived at the supply tree. A chaotic scene greeted them, the water of the lake which was one meter away (human size), for some reason suddenly submerged the tree by three quarters. The fairies who were there were busy going back and forth trying to save the remnants of supplies that could be reached by their hands. The four of them gaped at a loss for words. All their hard work is now scattered everywhere. "Where have you guys been!" snapped a female fairy from behind. They turned quickly, it was Mrs. Malissa. Her face was so disheveled, all the emotions shone on her face that it was hard to tell whether she was angry, disappointed, desperate, or miserable. In the left hand, she held a torn parchment, and in the other, ink spilled out from the pen, dripping down, drop by drop. "Aahhhhh… Mrs. Malissa, w-what happened?" Alfred stammered. "As you can see! It's a catastrophe! The other team is trying to retrieve as much of the lost supplies as possible in the river, I hope you guys can save as much fruits as possible. Come on! Move! You guys don't want to work all day to collect fruit and seeds for a whole week, right?!" Mrs. Malissa pointed to the river on her right side, fortunately the river was not so swift, they had a chance to catch them before it fell downstream. "Don't ask too many questions! Use your brains! Get as many as you can!" Despite grumbling and taking a deep breath, Rose Team flew towards the side of the river, Alfred turned from his formation and flew back towards Mrs. Malissa, she was writing on parchment in blurry ink. "Do you know why this happened?" Alfred tried to keep his tone of voice serious enough, even though he already knew the worst answer. He couldn't believe it. Mrs. Malissa did not immediately answer, she glanced at Alfred with narrowed eyes. "Do you know anything about this?" "No! No! I just want to know what happened!" he said quickly, his palms pointing forward, moving left and right. "I think you can guess who likes to wreak havoc in our village and bring havoc wherever she goes." She said in a tone full of sarcasm. "That's impossible! Milena does have a bad temper, but doing something like this isn't something she'd have the heart to do! She's not that stupid! She could starve to death during the winter too!" Alfred spoke without pause, his breath coming out of his chest. Mrs. Malissa just chuckled, smirked. "Love really blinds anyone." She turned away from Alfred who froze, "You better get to work, don't overwhelm your team without you. The team that carries the least amount of lost supplies will have their dinner cut off for a month!" She waved hand holding the parchment. Alfred paled. He still couldn't believe that the fairy he loved had the cruel heart to do such a heinous thing. Milena is known for her bad character. In stark contrast to her beautiful physical appearance. He had known Milena since childhood, therefore, he couldn't believe what was happening right now. With a heart full of mountain doubts, he flew slowly towards the side of the river. In the distance, his team members began to pick up the fruit one by one and put it on the river bank. Some of them complained and grumbled in incoherent chatter. The weather in October is getting colder by the day towards the end of the month. Who wouldn't be upset if they had to deal with water in a season like this? Although their supplies were washed away by the water, it wasn't as bad as the frantic fairy man in the tavern had said, he still saw some strawberries and grapes pooling low among the tall bushes. His heart sank at the memory of the perpetrator, then he flew slowly and began to pick up grapes as the beginning of their second hard work that day.[]    -------------    *Author's note Hello!
