The Hunter
Large elaborate window curtains open with a quick swoosh, revealing a beautiful afternoon. Light rushes into the bedroom, shining onto my face. With a groan and a stretch, I grumble at Giles for waking me from another dreamless sleep.
“Giles! Why do you insist on torturing me? Five more minutes!” I protest at him.
“Sir, I do recommend that we get a start on some of those business plans that we have been discussing.” Giles retorts.
With a reluctant sigh I know he has a point, “All right. All right! I’m up. Just give me 10 minutes to get cleaned up and I’ll meet you in the study.”
Giles pauses at the door as he is exiting, “Uh, Sir? Would you like me to have a carriage come to take your guest home?”
“Oh s**t. She’s still here?” I peer across my California king sized bed and notice pale pink skin peeking out of the covers and long blonde curls flowing over the pillow, “Yes, please? But you wake her Giles. And do wait until I’ve already gone. She wasn't invited over for the conversation.” With that, I slip out of my golden silk sheets. Paying no mind to my naked body as I confidently walk across my massive master suite and head towards my bathroom.
As Giles makes his way to my bed to wake the slumbering beauty, I make a coughing gesture to get his attention. He pauses and turns to me, “Yes, Sir?” He responds.
“Ehhem!?” I nod towards the fireplace, urging him to look that way, “Don’t forget about that one too Giles.”
Watching his head crane over so he can see what I'm nodding at, I can't help but allow a smirk creep up my face. I see his face go wide eyed once he sees another pale, blonde beauty lying on my bearskin rug that lays in front of my ornate fireplace. He nods in agreement and with understanding. With a sly grin, I throw him a wink, and continue to saunter off into my luxurious bathroom, shutting the door behind me.
Snickering at how much I love torturing that old man, I can't help but also think how well of a servant he has always been to me. Doing my bidding as I see fit, never questions me, and he acts as though not much ever phases him. This however, I know gets under his skin. Mostly because of the mundaneness behind it, I think. Making this grown man dispose of my trash, in every sense of those words really.
I shower last nights filth off of me and do a quick edge clean up around my beard. I like to keep myself well-groomed at all times. Once I finish with my beard, I put some hair putty into my hands. Got to get plenty, my mohawk sure is getting long. Just enough product to gather the hair down the center and help it stay. And I don't do that spiked straight up mohawk s**t. Think more Viking as opposed to punk rock.
Hope I've given Giles enough time to take out the trash, I sure would hate to feed the dogs already. They had such a large helping last night at the end of that party. Besides, he really is good at what he does, and it'd be hard to find someone that is as 'Johnny on the spot' as he is. But, I must never show any sort of weakness or a kink in my chain. That's when you get yourself in trouble.
I quickly head out of my bathroom and head towards my Study.
"Good job, Giles." I mutter under my breath as I walk through my room and notice he has changed my bedding, tidied up, and even took out the trash like he was asked.
Once I get to my Study, I take a seat at my desk and start going over a few telegrams I recently received. They all mostly resemble one another. This person wants this, that person wants that, complain this, complain that. Blah, Blah, Blah...
No wonder all these people needed someone like me to head everything up. They're all a bunch of wimps. Where are all the strong willed and 'Go For It', the 'Get What You Work For' and 'If You Want It, Then Take It' mindset people? Lucky for me I guess, because this will just make it even THAT much simpler to take everything for myself. I'll let these half-wits help me where I need them and then just dispose of that trash when I'm done with it too. Only, this is business, not pleasure. So that means I'll have to dispose of that trash in a more permanent fashion.
"Sir, here is today's paper, your morning Rye Whiskey, and Cigar. I also took the liberty of putting today's correspondences on that tray as well, underneath the morning paper." Giles comes walking in with a tray full of goodies. As he sits it on the large conference table in the middle of my Study, I go ahead and take a seat at the head of the table, bringing the telegrams I was going over earlier.
"Thank you Giles. Before you are dismissed, can you tell me if you have heard anything from that Simon Bellamy chap?" I ask while thumbing through all the new telegrams.
"Yes Sir. He sent word this morning that he should be able to find the location you inquired about, and he will notify you immediately upon his discovery. Also, he said that the prototypes for the new energy solutions will be ready for testing by the end of the month"
"Oh what good news Giles!" looking up from my scattered mess of papers, "This means it could even be ready by A-Day Celebration?" Giles nods in confirmation, and then makes his way out of my Study.
Oh what good news this is indeed!
"Hey, Giles." I call out before he gets to the door, "On your way out, will you send in the soldier recruits that we got from that slave camp? I'd like to take a look at them before they're shipped off to training. You know, maybe weed out the weak before they even stink up the shipment container. Dogs do need to be fed."
"Of course Sir." Giles obeys as usual, and then leaves.
If these prototypes are ready by A-Day, I might have to pump a few of my other endeavors into full-gear before then. Just to make sure everything will be ready and happen all according to plan. First, I need to find the exact site where the lab was, which is just one part of what this Simon guy is doing for me. But while I wait for that part, I'll be continuing to distribute this Elixir like I have been, and training and preparing super soldiers in my offsite training facility. And then once I have my little 'secret weapon' ready for the party too, this world won't know what to do.
Everyone taking this Elixir, thinks it's a cure for this Voxir-Virus. Joke's on you. With the radiation put off with this new 'energy solution', combined with dosing everyone with the 'Elixir', it is going to completely take away any 'powers' of ANYONE, except for those that I control. Hopefully by then I can figure out why the hell I don't have them, and how I CAN have them. My army of super soldiers who do my bidding and me as their leader. The whole world will do as I say, and no one will be powerful enough to stop me. But... if at the end of all of this, I am not ruling, and if anyone gets in my way? I'll burn it all.
There is a knock on my door that jars me from my daydream.
"It's open!" I holler.
The door opens and Giles ushers in a line of 20 guys we recruited from one of our slave camps. I motion for him to wait outside for the rejects so he can show them where we keep the dogs. They'll make a nice meal for those hungry critters. We will be traveling soon, and I have a feeling we will be away for a little while.
"Okay, Stand in a line!" I shout, my voice booming with authority, "Look straight ahead, do not look me in the eye! If I see you looking me in my eyes, then I will take that as a challenge that you think you can take me. Got it?"
"Yes sir!" They all shout in unison.
"Okay. So, I will be walking through and picking out some of you. If you are picked, I need you to go out into the hall where Mister Giles is waiting, am I understood?" I pace slowly back and forth in front of this group of misfits as I address them.
"Yes Sir!" They shout again.
Walking through I picked out the ones that I could tell wouldn't even last 2 seconds in a training camp, not MY training camp anyway. Sending them into the hall, I took joy in watching their faces seem happy as they thought they're being picked to be a soldier. Little do they know....
HeHeHeHeHe....
I can't help but chuckle. You know, they do say to enjoy the little things in life, right? I'm sure this is EXACTLY what they were talking about when they said that.
Once I am done picking out doggy treats, Giles takes them all down the hall, through the backdoor, and out to the pasture where we keep our kennels. While I take a good hard look at the 10 that remained, making sure these all have what it takes to even begin. Most of these guys aren't going to make it to D-Day stuff, but I'm going to be giving a huge source of power to some of these guys. I need to make sure they're worthy. Some of these guys look like they're still kids, but kids are also the most impressionable. Which, could greatly work in my favor. Take one of these younglings, take him under my wing, show him the ropes, allow him special treatment and perks(still while giving him the same training as the others of course).
Hmmm... Who's it going to be?
"You, kid!" pointing at some dark haired pretty boy I shout.
"Whhhoooo? Are you talking to me Sir?" the kid wasn't sure at first, but found his steady voice. I like that. He was scared, which he should be, but he was also brave enough to steady his voice and hold a confident, but not cocky demeanor.
"Yes, you kid." I reaffirm, "How old are you?"
"I'm almost 16, Sir." he replies.
"Almost? How close is ALMOST 16?" I tease.
"This weekend Sir. I'll be 16 this weekend." answering, he directs his face towards mine and manages to keep his eyes upwards but without making actual eye contact. He's good. He's the one.
"Alright, well how about this?" I address the whole group, "Everyone in this room is going to be a soldier in my army. You will leave at dusk to travel to the train station. From there you will be transported to our training facility. This is greatly a high honor, but rest assured that you all will not make it out of that camp alive. For those of you who do? You will be God's among men, I will preside over you and you will obey me. But all else will be beneath you." I announce with an insightful tone. Like that one "Braveheart" speech, but without the blue face paint, and darker.
I ring a bell, letting Giles know he is wanted, he should be back from feeding the dogs by now. The door opens shortly after, which tells me I was right.
"Yes Sir?" Giles inquires.
"Take the recruits to the stables where they can rest before loading up to leave at dusk." I instruct.
"Yes Sir." Giles obeys and ushers the recruits out.
"Not so fast kid," I jump in and catch the dark haired pretty boy by the shoulders, "Hold up. You can join them later. I think we should chat. There are a few things I need to attend to but I have a few moments before needing to head out." Taking the kid and moving him towards a chair by the window.
"Yes Sir, of course. What is it you would like to chat about?" The nonchalant ease in this kid surprises me.
"Well first, I think we should start with this... What's your name kid?" I ask as I sit in a chair nearby.
"My name Sir, is Sebastian. Sebastian Cooper at your service." he says as he shakes my hand.
