Chapter 5

4907 Words
By roughly 12:30 at night, Lydia was back home. Lydia immediately stopped the car right in front of the house, grabbed all of her belonging and got out of it making her way towards the house, knowing someone will eventually take the car and park it in the garage, just like always. When she reached the door she did not ring the doorbell, only because it was so freaking loud that she already knew that this loud noise would immediately wake everyone up. So to not cause any type of trouble she pulled out a spare key and immediately unlocked the door, slowly thrusting the enormous door with all her strength and got into the house. Probably by this time most of the staff would be still very much awake, preparing for the next day but some would be asleep and Lydia was very sure about that. Her family members, on the other hand, would most definitely be asleep right about now. Her father was a very early sleeper too so she already knew he would be out cold. And right when she walked into the house Lydia's stomach just growled like there was an undead creature living inside of here and it had just woken up. She swore she had never heard that voice before because it even scared it. "What the hell." She said and immediately decided to go to the kitchen to get herself something to eat you. Lydia walked into the kitchen turning on the lights and she places her laptop and her phone on the counter and made her way towards the fridge, opening it up and pulling out an orange juice and one and meatballs Sofia had made especially for her and no one else. "Yummy," Lydia said the moment she pulled the lid off of it and smell the delicious homemade food. She then walks towards the oven to heat it and then placing the bowl in it and turns it on setting a 3 min timer. "And now the magic happens." She whispered to herself backing away from the oven and going back to her orange juice. Lydia takes a glass from the counter and instantly pores herself her favorite drink, completely enjoying the peace, the quiet and the beautiful night it was today. "You are home very early." "AAAAHHHHHHHH." Lydia screams her lungs out as she heard someone's unpleasant voice from behind her, literally frightening the living s**t out of her. Holding her glass tightly near his chest Lydia slowly turns around to see Freya standing there in her very much reviling little nightgown. Which evidently wasn't really covering up anything in its place BUT never the less she looked stunning in it like she always did. And Lydia was never going to admit it to her or even let her know about this. "What are you doing here at this time Freya?. Aren't you supposed to be getting your beauty sleep?." Lydia said, standing there trying to get her breath together and also her s**t together at the same time. "Couldn't sleep." Was all she had to say. After calming her self down Lydia then walked towards the counter and sat down on a high chair right next to it, immediately poring herself her favorite drink. "Do you want some ?." She asked her sister but Freya slowly walked towards the counter to take a seat on the opposite side of Lydia. It was a large counter so there wasn't any problem with them getting closer to each other. Which was great for them. "No thanks, I'm full," Freya said immediately getting comfortable on her seat. The sudden sound of beeping of the oven immediately got Lydia a little excited and it was very vividly seen on her bright happy face. And Freya just looked at her like she was crazy as hell. Without wasting a single second Lydia grabbed her plate one more time and takes out her meatballs and spaghetti and serves herself her favorite dish. Which by now looked and smell divine and ready to be consumed. Lydia slowly took her first bite and was very much enjoying it but there was something that was bothering her and her food time, which was just too annoying and so Lydia opened her and eyes and saw Freya looking at her, and that was all she was doing. She was just staring at her sister for no unknown reason and at all. But Freya, on the other hand, was very very very curious about something at this very moment. It was almost like she was trying to figure out something at she was not entirely sure about and that really had consumed up her mind, since morning. But this time she just had to ask her. Lydia let out a heavy breath and rolled her eyes. "Why are you looking at me like that?." She asked her again going for a big ass bite of the food. Freya got comfortable on the chair and said. "Why did you agree to join dad?." She asked her and this time Freya was going to very much let her speak and listen to her while staying quite. Because this time it wasn't their petty rivalry anymore, no. This time it was real, this entire s**t was real and Freya wanted to know everything. Lydia immediately stopped on her track as she was about to take a bite of her food, it was just for a small second and then again she continued "Why is everyone making such a big deal out of this?." "Well because you hate it there." "I don't hate it there, it just gets a little boring some time." Lydia corrected her and it was the truth, half the truth. Ones the work starts it was always thrilling but when Lydia was done working and which she always did as fast as she could, it really got very boring to her after that and sitting there all alone while there was nothing to do is quite frustrating. "Didn't you make a vow you were never going to step into that building and all." Freya teased her remembering what she had said many years ago. God, she never lets anything ever slid from her. Lydia thought. "I was young Freya and stop reading too much into things, it only makes you more undesirable then you already are," Lydia said back to her and her sly comment didn't go well with Freya what so ever. "Why do you always have to be so mean?." "Why do you always have to be so in my business?." Lydia said and was just about to take a bite but suddenly stopped and placed her fork down in the counter because she was really losing it right now. "You know you can ask me all their same questions again but with less judgment and bitchiness don't you think ?. If you really want a correct answer ask me something in the correct way." Lydia literally lost it right there and then. She didn't know why but she just did. Normally it was very easy to talk to Freya, insult her tease her but sometimes Freya just gets into Lydia's skin and it's the trigger, trigger game from there. "Fine, you don't have to get mad at me for wanting to know why you changed your mind," Freya said backing up in her chair with a small smirk on her face. She knew this was a victory, a small victory. Normally it's difficult to get a satisfying reaction out of Lydia but she had done it. She almost got it and was so damn proud of it. But there was so much more to come. "Are you trying to impress dad ?." Freya asked her sister and all over again Lydia was getting triggered and this was the very first time in a row that this happened. She had no idea what Freya was trying to achieve by doing all of this. What was the final goal, that was really a big puzzle for her? Lydia then took in a deep breath and slowly let it out and looked at Freya with a small smile on her face and it was definitely not a genuine smile in any way. "Fre, maybe you have to try and impress people because natural talent literally lacks in you," Lydia said to her and immediately Freya's face lost its brightness and it almost looked like something hit her and she didn't even see it coming, which was very ironic to Lydia BUT she tried to contain her laughter throughout all of this. And the best part was she has more where they came from. "And I, on the other hand, I don't have to do all that, because it all comes naturally to me, I am the best in the business and I know that because I have worked really hard on my skills to get to were I am right now. This is what you will never be able to achieve. So, in the end, I don't have to impress anyone or even my own father Freya. My work will do that for me." Lydia said backing away from the counter placing her fork right next to the table. "And thank you so much for ruining my dinner." She immediately got off of her chair and grabbed her laptop, her phone and the orange juice and immediately makes her way towards the entrance of the kitchen, passing by Freya. But the moment she reaches the door Lydia stops and turns back around to look at Freya who was still on her seat looking away out the window and Lydia knew she was mad, really mad right now which was a huge ass victory for her. "By the way Freya, I cannot wait to start working with you," Lydia said and Freya immediately turned around to see her and she had a confused look on her face. "What?." She asked her not being sure what she was talking about. But Lydia, on the other hand, played it innocent just for the fun of it and looked at her sister in concern. "You don't know?. Dad didn't tell you?." She asked her with a small smile and a large smirk on her face. But Freya wasn't having it and she wanted her to get to the point right now. "I will be your boss from now on," Lydia said smiling as bright as possible and Freya just sat there like she had seen a ghost or something. "What?." She said again with complete disbelief. "My boss?." She questioned her and she wasn't going to lie. Freya was really terrified right and this was really very very shocking to her. "Well, not your boss but your bosses actually, Because for you to learn directly under me you still have to be promoted and that will only happen when we see a good performance from you. You know just like what I had to do before I started to work for dad. It's the same process." Lydia said it all in detail to her sweet little confused sister. "No pressure Fre I got you," Lydia said smirking at her while placing her hand on the shoulder and giving for small squeeze and Lydia made sure too put in a little pressure while doing so. This only made Freya wince a little but she tried her hard to not let it out. "I really can't wait to work with you." She said one last time giving her a large smile and immediately Lydia walked out of the kitchen. Well, not before turning the lights off in every part of the kitchen. Now that was satisfying to her at this point. And Freya just sat there in complete darkness and she was mad, really really mad. But one thing that really got her to this point was the fact that her father didn't tell her a word about this. She is always with him and around him and he didn't even let her know about this and also didn't even tell her that Lydia was going to be her senior. She would have to work for her. This and only this fact alone made her so furious it literally just shattered her. This alone shattered her ego and that really affected Freya. She wasn't at all happy and she had no reason to be. And the only reason she ever found out about this was because of Sofia and her big mouth. She could even see the happy look on her face when she said it to her. But right now all Freya could think of was how all of this, truly made her feel. It made her feel less. Freya could see how without even trying Lydia always got everyone's attention, she always got love even when she clearly didn't deserve it. Everyone always took her side, everyone always wanted to be around her and all of this bothered her all the time. Why was she so special to everyone ?. Freya hated the fact that it was always Lydia who had the last word, always. But now, from now on things were going to change, things were going to be different now. She knew what she had to do and when she had to do it. Freya was going to completely destroy Lydia's reputation for good and show everyone what she really is on the inside. Letting out a small satisfied breath and pushed her seat back getting off of her chair. Freya gradually started making her way towards her room with a lot of things in her mind. And especially Lydia in her mind. ......................................................................................................................................................... "Ring Ring." The loud tone of the phone ringing echoed throughout the whole room. Kade's room was now just filled with the sound of buzzing over and over again on a repeated tone disturbing him, to say the least. With a loud grown Kade opens up both his eyes and his eyes a rub, trying to get them to open up. He then without wasting a second immediately picks the phone up and takes the call. "Yes ?." Was all he said to the person on the other side of the phone. And his voice came out strong and yet very husky at the same time, even though it was early in the morning. "Honey are you still asleep?." Said the voice on the other side and shortly a small smile crept onto his face, which slowly and slowly got larger and larger. It was his mother the one person he truly adored more than anyone in the entire world. Kade slowly pushes his blanket off of him and sits up straight on his bed. "Good morning to you too." He said messing with his already messy hair. "Kade, honey you are still coming to the annual vision ball right ?."She inquired him without even saying good morning to him. Kade grinned at her very excited voice. "Yes, I will be there mother, I made a promise to you." He said "I am just saying, sometimes you don't follow through and that upsets me." She said trying to make him feel bad for what he did, thousands of years ago and immediately Kade looked annoyed. She never let anything go. "I did that only one time and never again." He explained trying to let her know he knew what she was trying to do. "Well in my mind it is a completely different story dear." She said to him in a sassy way really. "Will you be bringing a partner with you?." She asked him curiously because there were just some things she didn't even know about her own son. So this time she was hoping to get some scope from him. "Will you be there with Doreen?." She asked him hoping it was true. But Kade just closed his eyes pinching the bridge of his nose. "No, it will be just me, Reece and the shareholders." He said is very clear to her so that he didn't get any more pathetic questions for her. "Of course they all will be there but why don't you just bring a partner with you?." She tried to pitch in this idea. "I am only going to be there for your mother." He said and was striving she got it and apparently she did. This was all she could really do, forcing him to bring a date wasn't really going to do any good anyway. So this time she understood him. "Fine, fine and I don't really care about that, all I want to do is see you there that is all."She said which cause him a have a huge small on his face. "I will be there, don't worry." "Great I will make something for you." She said and this immediately confused Kade, making his eyes brows scrunch up a little. "Why?. There will be a lot of people cooking for the guests." He said to here. "Yes true, but you are my only son and I will make something for you with my own two hands. So, shut up." She said and immediately Kade burst out laughing at her statement. She really was peace of work. "Okay. I got it." He said to her slowly getting off of the bed and making his way towards the bathroom. "Now stop being lazy and go have your breakfast, Reece said to skip them." "I am up, I am up." He said back laughing trying to calm his exaggerated mother down. They both said their goodbyes and immediately cut the call on each other. Kade then slowly walked up to the mirror and stood right in front of it. Glancing at his reflection. He was very much shirtless, still a little bit sleepy. His smile immediately turned into a small frown when a sudden thought came to his mind. But he couldn't help but think of all the events that had taken place in his life. Those thoughts were all over his mind for many years and even now he couldn't stop thinking about it. Kade slowly let out a small breath and looked at himself in the mirror, looking at the man in front of him and looking at what he had become because of the people around him and who truly loved him. ..................................................... Within half an hour Kade walked out of his huge apartment and made his way down to the lobby. The moment the elevator opened Kade walked out looking amazing as ever in a all raven sharp suit that fit him more than well and the people around him could actually feel his aura coming trough as well. That was how Kade kept himself, there was clearly something about him that made people feel intimidated and less about themselves and Kade did even have to do anything to make them feel this way. The walk from the lobby to the main doors was long and on the way, Kade was greeted by well-known people and honored people who also lived in the same Griffins cordon skyscraper, one of the most elegant and luxurious places to live in. And of course, Kade wanted the best of the best for him. A small place no one was allowed and a place where he could be by himself, away from distractions and away from people. A small place just for himself, like he always wanted it. Kade immediately made his way towards the main door that was opened up by the guard standing right outside the door. The moment he got out Kade's eyes landed on Reece and his car right in front of him. Reece instantly opens the door for him when he sees him make his way towards the car. "Good morning Mr. Sullivan," Reece told to him with a smile on his face. "Good morning Reece," Kade said back to him and immediately got inside the car and at the same time opened up the buttons of his jacket to get even more comfortable. Right behind him Reece closed the door and made his way towards the driver's seat and started the car making his way towards the office. There both didn't converse much but at the same time, there was a lot running in Kade's mind at the moment. He wasn't sure if he wanted to say it or even address it at the same time. And if he did it will be the very first time for him, this was something he had wanted to do for years and he knew it was now or really, never. Kade let out a harsh long breath and looked at Reece who was driving the car. "Reece." "Yes, sir?." He replied back to him glancing at Kade through the mirror. "I need you to do something for me." He said feeling a little uneasy right at this moment. "Of course Mr. Sullivan." "I want to find someone for me," Kade said looking at Reece with a strict look on his face. "Who?." He asked him and was really curious about this. Kade, on the other hand, wasn't so sure about this again, but as he thought about this more and more he just knew he had to. And so he took a deep breath in and let it out. "Mara Bills." He said as his voice came out like a small whisper and the way he said this name was a little weird, even Reece could figure this out. He could even see this particular name was very effective in making him feel uncomfortable. "Mara." This time Reece was the one to say that name out loud and that immediately alarmed Kade and brought him back to reality. He shucks his head and blinked getting out of his train of thoughts. "Yes, Mara Bills," Kade said conforming it. But this time he was very confident and didn't have a problem saying that name, or so he was trying to say that to himself at least. "Try to get all the information about her, full background check and let me know immediately," Kade said leaving no room for any more question what so ever. Reece, at this point, was a little confused about this particular request made to him. But never the less, he nodded his head and kept his eyes on the road. "Of course sir. I will let River know about this and give you all the information ones he is done gathering them all." Reece said letting him know he can trust him. And Kade asked for his help mainly because of that sole reason. Kade nodded his head and looked out the window but something was different this was not the same route they took every time to the office. Kade was really alarmed right about now. "Why are we going from here?. Why are we taking a longer route?." Kade asked him and Reece again looked at him through the mirror. "That route has a lot of traffic sir, There isn't any traffic through this road," Reece said to him and he knew Kade would agree to this. He knew Kade wanted to reach the office as soon as possible. And so he continued driving but Kade, on the other hand, had something else entirely on his mind. Although he knew this was the right thing to do right about now, something just felt off to him. Even Reece could see that. "Is something wrong sir?." He asked him but go no reply from Kade, all he got was a man thinking something, Kade was in deep thoughts. "Si..." "Turn around." Kade suddenly burst out. "What?." Reece asked him confused at his request but still, he tried to slow the car down. "Turn around." This was all he said to him, still looking like he was in deep thoughts. "Sir." "Now." Was his last word and without questioning him Reece immediately made a U-Turn and started to drive through the same route they always did. Although he was a little confused about this he truly didn't want to question him in any way and both of them got extremely silent. After getting to a distance Kade could see there was a small amount of traffic there, the same place the traffic was yesterday. He could also see that the count down for the car to start moving was 60 seconds and reducing. When he almost reached the familiar street Kade kept his eyes open and to his left side. He didn't really know why but he wanted to see something or just someone. Kade was quite curious about that particular person that entire day and couldn't even get that person out of his mind. He couldn't stop thinking about all the faces she was making the entire time and she didn't even know she was doing so. The cafe got closer and closer and his heart started to beat fast and fast and he didn't even know this was how all of this was affecting him. Kade was completely oblivious to this situation. Even though she was acting like a maniac he really wanted to see if she was there, was she acting just like she did yesterday? Was a questioning his mind. The car stopped right in front of the cafe and Kade kept his eyes inside the cafe. His eyes roam around trying to find that one person. His eyes, on the other hand, started to search for her. For a small second, a split small second Kade felt disappointed and it felt like something was bothering him. The entire place was completely packed, just like it was yesterday. But she was nowhere to be found. Even though he felt someway, which he couldn't really explain. Kade slowly let out a small uneven breath and was just about to look away to another direction. But right there and then, right at that very second, his eyes landed on her. She was there, she was right there. Kade without even realizing it he again leaned forward a little bit with his eyes stick very much just stuck to her. She looked different today. Her hair was tied up into a tight pony and even though it was high up it still looked really long. She was wearing a white T-shirt and dark blue jeans. And just like yesterday she was very furiously typing on the hideous looking laptop. Kade couldn't help but laugh at her laptop, it was disturbingly yellow and was a pain for any one's eyes truly. But even now he had just one question in his mind. "What was the typing ?". He thought to himself. An angry mail? a letter to the boyfriend? a mail to her office? or even maybe an essay?. Maybe she was a college student ?. He thought again all because he himself could see a lot of students in the small building. Suddenly the cars around him started to move a so was his car. But at the same time, Kade couldn't take his eyes off of the girl. Or maybe he wasn't really aware of doing so. The further away the car got from the cafe the sight of her getting difficult to see. Slowly and slowly all Kade could now see was a pony and then a tree completely covering her up. The moment he couldn't see her Kade returned around and again got comfortable on his seat bu this time he had a small smile on his rigid face. He was completely unaware all because he has never had a normal human reaction happen to him and also the fact that he was really got at ignoring people. It was something he did really well. Very surprisingly he didn't even notice all the think his body was doing this entire time. But this time it was completely different for him. He couldn't really ignore her as he did to every other person he met, who wasn't important to him. But Reece wasn't going to be oblivious to the fact that he saw him smiling, again. Although he was really surprised, he was really happy to see the man that was always rigid and strict small for ones. "Are you okay Mr. Sullivan?." Reece asked him trying to keep his smile to himself. The moment he said that Kade immediately realizes what he was doing and came back to his senses. Just like nothing had happened. "I am fine." He said looking away from Reece and out the window concentrating elsewhere. But Reece couldn't help but smile at his reaction. But Kade, on the other hand, Slowly let out a harsh breath which he didn't even know he was keeping in him. He then slowly rested his head back and immediately closing both his eyes for a few minutes. All he could really think about was why did he really want Reece to go through this area and this area only?. He asked himself over and over again, not really sure what to make of all of this. Also at the same time, he knew he was going to overthink all of this. Just like he always did. Kade without overthinking decided to simply just calm down and let his mind relax and stop overthinking for a while.
