9 Thankfully, Laura had a lifetime of practice at keeping up with people who had longer legs. Still, she lost Holly once out of the exhibition rooms and into the lower hallway. A door alarm sounded off to her left and she raced in that direction. She arrived there moments after Corporal Rankin, the security guard they’d met yesterday. Laura caught up to him when he stopped at a door labeled, Emergency Exit Only—alarm will sound. He spotted her and let her through before calling out, “She okay?” Laura could only shrug as she raced away. Many people were wandering along the Elizabeth Quay park that wrapped around two sides of the PCEC. But there was only one Captain Marvel, sitting on a bench by the First Contact sculpture, with her head hanging down. Laura let herself catch her breat
