Zelenia POV
I have been keeping a watchful eye on Angelica for the last week, her behaviour between my brother and mate becoming even more audacious. She had started to shamelessly flirt with them in front of the entire pack. My parents were starting to question why I hadn’t yet intervened, but they didn’t understand that I was waiting for the right time.
Right now, I am watching with raised eyebrows as Ray growls ferociously in the back of my mind, at the sight of her mate being touched by another female.
I see Angelica’s attention flit towards me as I rise to my feet, her eyes sizing me up with a glare. I may be small, but what she fails to realise is that I can pack quite a punch.
“Angelica, I believe I have warned you on numerous occasions, not to touch my mate. Have I not?”
I am confused by the laugh that escapes her lips, does she have such little disregard for her own life? We are royals, we are not known for our compassion or forgiveness. I look at her gobsmacked face with indifference, as her head whips to the right from my invisible back handed slap, the only indication that it was me was the wafting action of my hand from ten feet away.
“Am I a joke to you Angelica? Am I one to be laughed at?”
“You are nothing but a pathetic little stray.” She sneers.
I swing my hand again, this time concentrating on the opposite cheek and her head whips to the opposite side from where it had been before.
“Do I really seem pathetic to you?”
I start walking towards her slowly, concentrating on her scrawny throat as I imagine my hand wrapping around it. I raise my hand slightly, so her body is hovering three feet off of the floor.
“How? How are you doing this?” She chokes out, tears falling from her eyes as she struggles for breath. “My father said you were nothing. He said you were weak.” She spluttered.
“I thought you were not in touch with your father? He left you years ago to be with another she wolf?” I said, feigning ignorance of their correspondence.
“He said it was a mistake to keep you alive…” She cried, ignoring my previous question. “He said that you were nothing but a worthless little runt.”
It was those words that caught me off guard, as I could tell they had with Alex also, as I noticed his posture stiffen. We had both heard him refer to me by that name countless times. He used it more than he had the name he had given me.
“Who is your father?” I felt Alex’s arms snake around my waist as he heard the trembling in my voice. “ANSWER ME!” I screamed, making everyone in the room jolt.
“Jeffrey…” She said with a smirk. “Alpha of the free moon pack.”
It was then that I noticed the similarities between the two, she had the same disgusted expression on her face that he wore when he spoke to me. Her eyes twinkled in the same deranged way his did, although hers were a shade lighter, maybe insanity ran in their blood line? I had never seen her as the prettiest woman within the pack, but the sneer she gave made her incredibly ugly, her crooked nose crinkled unflatteringly. I could envisage her father’s crooked nose, as he had made the same expression constantly during my time with him.
“So he sent you here?”
“He wanted me to prove my worth before he allowed me to officially join his pack.”
“Well, he is going to be extremely disappointed then.” I growled. “To have the knowledge that a worthless little runt killed his own flesh and blood.”
“He will come for you.” She smirked.
“Let him, I have dreamt so many times of holding his bloody heart in my hands, while I watch his dead body thump against the ground. I would love to make that a reality.”
“You can’t take him on. He is stronger than you, I know the effects that his treatment of you, left behind. You are weak and pathetic, wolf less.” I laughed at her obvious denial of my power, I was currently holding her in the air by an invisible force, How could she still refuse the truth?
“That’s right…” I pondered for a second. “I am the she wolf he abandoned you for. He may have hated me, but I was obviously more important to him than you ever were.” I taunted.
“He didn’t care about you…” She choked. “He just needed to keep you from the royals.”
“I didn’t say that he cared, I said I was more important to him than you were…” I laughed. “He may have hated me, but if he really cared about you then he would have returned to you. Tell me, why didn’t he just kill me? I’ll tell you why, because the beatings he gave me, made his day. Nothing you could do, would have made him happier than when he was beating me.”
“He will come for me and then we will see…” She sneered.
“You are mistaken…” I said as my curved hand curled into a fist. “There will be nothing for him to come back for.”
The crunching of her neck bones crushing, echoed around the room as I tightened my fist, watching the grey film occupy her eyes and her body hang lifelessly in the air, before dropping it when I was content that she was finally gone.
Alex POV
I had heard of the punishments she had dealt in the past, but I had never witnessed them for myself. The look on her face as she stared down at Angelica’s deceased form held no emotion. Everyone had said she was cold and heartless, that she killed purely to satisfy her bloodlust, but I could feel her emotions and it was not true.
She had no choice, she could not be shown to be weak when threatened by a pack member. I could feel the disappointment, anger, fear running through her veins, but no emotion that would indicate that she enjoyed the taking of this life. The action had been one of necessity not of pleasure.
“Well, it looks like you were right Nick…” She looked towards our beta. “I really shouldn’t have let her into the pack.”
Whispers could be heard around the room, although the exchange hadn’t occurred in front of the entire pack, we did still have the audience of the dinner time rush.
“George?” I turned to see Nick’s brother already acknowledging me. “Please can you dispose of the body. An unmarked grave will suffice, thank you.”
He gave a small nod, another of the warriors joining him to aid with the riddance of Angelica. George loaded her over his shoulder, while the other male warrior walked in front of him to open the doors.
“He’ll be coming for me now.” Nia said with an icy tone.
“We are going to have to double training from now on…” King Ayhan announced. “Anyone over the age of thirteen needs to learn how to protect themselves and anyone under that age are not to travel anywhere without adult supervision.”
There was a nod of agreement around the room, from the sea of adults.
“They may be a rogue pack, but they are still a pack that have potential to attack. And now my daughter has killed his, I believe it more than likely that they will attack.” The king went on. “We need to be prepared for anything, they could come at any time and he could have spies anywhere within the pack. Keep your wits about you everyone.”
Another nod from the adults, followed by their whispered mutterings echoing around the room.
Training began the very next day. Previously, the pack’s daily training exercises had only been for those who were sixteen or over, but now the time had come where anyone with a wolf would be assessed.
We split them into three age categories, under sixteens, under twenty ones and adults. Testing their skills and techniques for the two older groups would be easy, but the younger teens were new to any of this, expecting to have at least a couple of years to watch the others during their training.
I shouted encouragement at the younger ones, applauding at the easiest of take downs, they needed to gain confidence in their defensive strikes. It was clear that a small number had been practising some moves, probably older siblings and parents wanting them to do well within the pack and teaching them at home.
“What do you think?” I turned to see George, our head warrior standing behind me, expecting my opinion on the youngsters.
“There’s a lot of work to be put in, but most of them show promise.” I answered.
“How many will we be facing, if it came to a battle?”
“We are not sure yet…” I say, shaking my head. “We have people staking out his pack’s factions, we should know within the week.”
I had been concentrating on the under ages all morning, that when I came to watch the adults train, I received surprised looks and glares. I heard a couple of muffled ‘what gives him the right to judge us, when he can’t even defend himself?’ comments from a small group of twenty somethings.
“You have to show them that you are not a weak pup anymore…” George advised from behind me. “They still view you as the person who left the pack all those years ago. You need to prove them wrong.”
“What better way than beating the head warrior?” I said with a smirk. “Spar?”
“Of course alpha.” He bowed his head to me, before we both walked onto the training field.
Silence, that was all I heard as I helped an exhausted George up from the floor. We had only been sparring for ten minutes, but he looked as though he had fought a fortnight’s worth of battles all at once. The snarky comments were no more, the glares that had been thrown at me had changed to nervous and apologetic expressions.
“Does the alpha make it to your high expectations?” George wheezed loudly with a glare to all of those who had underestimated me. “Good. Now back to training, because you all need some work!”
George turned to me with a smile and a wink.
“I don’t think they’ll be too much trouble from now on.”
