“It seems that the Ordeals have a special ability to possess beings like us. I thought that they were just ordinary creatures but we were wrong—they’re stronger and they’re smart. They definitely know what we’re up to and they’re just mocking us even with the Gladiator on our side.”
“The Gladiator was able to beat it earlier.”
“But she has now fallen ill because of that. She may be the Gladiator, but she’s still a human. She has sustained multiple injuries from that fight. If she didn’t use her power, she would’ve been dead by now. We would have lost our one and only card.”
I sat on my chair and listened to the people in the discussion hall, arguing with each other about the Ordeal that had just infiltrated our supposedly safe castle and possessed one of my people.
