Although Serena was desperate to finger the pages bound in a single heart locket within her grasp, she couldn't bring herself to do so without first showing Paolo the secret journal. She knew she had deceived him in previous attempts to keep him from the pain knowing such details would bring him, but now, she could no longer validate her actions that were fueled by her own selfish fear to lose him. Due to this, Serena was careful as she dressed in a robe hanging over the back of a chair before covering her lingerie and moving back into the hallway to seek her beau. But before she was allowed even a single step, Serena could hear the familiar voices of Paolo along with that of his mother.
