When Robert awoke for a second time, he was much less disoriented. He realized at once he was in a wigwam. The golden light of the cooking fire flickered and danced on the walls and ceiling. His head still pulsed with pain but it was less intense. He raised his hand to his forehead and found it had been bandaged. He sensed someone was near him. He turned his head to his right and saw a pretty Indian maiden kneeling there. She smiled when she saw that his eyes were open. “He is awake,” she said in Shawnee. Her voice was melodious, soft and clear. It seemed to soothe the ache. “Ah,” came a voice that seemed familiar to Robert. He turned toward the sound and saw the face of a handsome young brave smiling down on him. As the man sat beside him, he looked into bottomless, gentle brown eyes. R
