Ch.2 Elizabeth
Flashback: 8 years earlier
“Please Elizabeth...I cant do this without you!” he pleaded with me.
“Come on E, you have to you’re the only one that can get us in.” Thomas said giving me his puppy dog eyes.
“Guys its useless she’s not going to do it and besides even if she did I don’t think she could get us in.” Justin said a teasing tone in his voice. I gave him an exasperated look.
“Fine but if Queen Mary finds out were all dead…very very dead.” I told them and as the excitedly grabbed their packs.
“Meet me here in an hour when the sun is setting.” I told them as the happily went their own way, and I took off to get ready as well.
It was the annual Moon Celebration and only the adult wolves were allowed to participate. We had tried and failed last year to get into the ball. We were all eager to find out what exactly went on in there as it was all very secretive, and we knew there would be alcohol and lots of it.
We were all 17 and would have to wait another year before we could actually be allowed to go in. The ball had been held for centuries and was a long-standing tradition for the wolf race. It was all part of a series of parties to help wolves find their mates or show them off. Wolves could only sense their mates after they turned eighteen and reached adulthood. It was also one of the last celebrations before the holidays, and only wolves were allowed.
I was a half blood which is a half human half werewolf. A half blood is stronger than humans and faster with great immune systems and little weakness. However, we could not transform and did not have a wolf within us like the other did.
Half bloods were only allowed in the ball by invitation from a member of the pack and approval from the Alpha or Luna.
This particular pack was the royal pack the King Alpha and Queen Luna had taken me in after my parents had been killed in an accident. My parents were the King and Queen of the neighboring kingdom. They were the border between the wolf packs and humans. They helped maintain the human people from getting to close to the packs thus keeping humans safe and the wolves secret and safe from persecution. My father was a wolf and my mother a human and thus a half-blood was born.
Long ago humans and wolves had been plagued by beasts that would take down entire villages and packs and thus an alliance was formed.
Legend goes that these beasts were summoned by witches. Which had then been hunted down to extinction after the great war many centuries before. This had led to the persecutions of witches through out the area.
Since the death of my parents I have lived here to learn how to become a good ruler from the King and Queen. They had a son Tristan who they were also shaping to be the next ruler of their kingdom. Their daughter Sarah was a couple years younger than us and also was being groomed for a leadership role as she was the Princess and would likely marry some other royal or noble man.
I glanced at the clock. It was almost time to meet up with the others and I quickly glanced in the mirror to assess my work. I had picked a powder blue dress with a silver overlay that had been embroidered with delicate leaves. It made me nervous putting on a dress like this. As the bodice was fitted to my chest and shaped my figure.
The skirt part of the dress hung like an A line though and it made me more comfortable. I had pulled my hair up into a messy bun, the loose curls I had coming out slightly adding to the look. It had been unintentional as my hair did what it wanted but this time it worked. In my dark hair I had put in a thin diadem head band to add to the look. I liked the way the silver reflected off my dark hair. I put on a thin silver necklace adding the last touch. Finally I grabbed my mask that would cover most of my face and raced to our meeting spot.
“Well well look at you Lizzy bee.” Justin said as he was the first to notice her. “You look like a real lady!” He exclaimed in mock surprise.
“Ha ha very funny.” I said with a smirk. “Where’s Tristan?” I said just seeing Thomas and Justin there.
“I don’t know he said he would meet us here, said he had to get something.” Thomas informed.
“Fear no more my subjects your future king has arrived, and he’s brought supp…” I heard Tristan stop talking as I came around from behind Justin and Thomas.
“What?” I asked confused as his mouth was slightly opened.
“Elizabeth…you look…” He said trying to form words.
“Yes, yes she looks like a girl now can you hand that over.” Justin said taking the flask that Tristan had been about to present them with. I felt a heat spread over my face at the way Tristan was looking at me ignoring his friends as they took the two flasks out of his hand.
“Ok E so what’s the plan?” Thomas asked taking a swig from the flask. “Ugh this is awful!” he said taking another swig. I was brought back from Tristan’s gaze.
“Ok so we are going to climb the south tower, where no one is guarding it since its the furthest from the courtyard. We will go across the villa roof and down the service elevator to the main floor. From there I will flirt with one of the guards while you three slip in.” I explained as they looked at me as if I were crazed.
“The south tower is impossible to climb you know that.” Tristan stated.
“Yeah that’s why no one is guarding it.” Thomas said in agreement.
“Its only impossible to climb because everyone tries to climb it alone. If all four of us work together to get up the tower we can make it. You guys can hoist me up to the first level from their I can make it up the side and climb up then help one of you up and we can throw the rope down to pull you up” I explained.
They were a little unsure that we could pull this off but were eager to try. With that we made our way over to the South Tower. Once there we made quick work of getting up the tower, they easily were able to get me up to the part that had some gripping area and I climbed the rest of the way. Next was Tristan he was able to climb up with a little more effort as he was bigger than I was and the space was narrow. I helped him the rest of the way using a rope.
“Ok guys catch.” I whispered shouted to the others still on the ground, throwing the rope.
“Hey! What are you doing ?! Get down from there!” I heard one of the guards shout at us, as a loud growl tore through the night.
“See ya guys!” Justin said as he and Thomas took off running full speed towards the woods. We could see two other guards running toward us on the ground.
“They’re on the roof!” They shouted. It would only be a matter of minutes before they had more guards on the roof coming for us.
“Come on!” I said taking Tristan’s hand and running. We raced over the other side and went into one of the many villas that were on the roof.
“This way.” Tristan said taking the lead this time. We ran into one of the hidden stairwells. It was an old spiral stairwell that would lead to the gardens. We raced down and the cold night air hit as we came out.
“This way.” He said my hand still in his as we made our way to the mazes. We could hear them scrambling around unsure of where we went. We kept moving until the shouts grew further away. We finally came on the other side which was the side of a small clearing with a huge fountain.
We both were laughing and out of breath from the run.
“That was close.” I said still laughing.
“Yeah.” Tristan answered looking back at me for the first time. His gaze eased my laughing and I finally noticed that we were still holding hands. The way he was looking at me was different than he had ever looked at me before.
We were best friends we had been brought up together and trained together. This felt different though, a breeze came through making me shiver.
“We should go.” I said unsure of what to do under his gaze. I realized now how close we were to each other.
“Yeah.” He said taking his free hand and moving it around my waist putting me even closer to him. He moved in closer his lips a breath away from mine.
“Elizabeth!” A voice shattered through my fog. “Elizabeth wake up we are almost there.” Aylee said waking me gently.
