Derrick was disoriented. He was walking along an unpaved two track lane. It was snowing hard. He didn’t know where he was or how he had gotten there. His only thoughts were of Cooper. He felt, somehow, he had to get to him. He stopped and looked around into the blackness. Only the snow gave dimension to his vision. He shook his head to try to clear it and remember. What was he trying to remember? He wasn’t even sure of that. He shook his head again. This time he did have a flicker of memory: headlights, a loud horn. He turned to the side. In front of him was a large tree. A tree! That somehow seemed important. He stared at the gnarled trunk through the snow and then closed his eyes. The tree seemed to hurtle toward him…he raised his arms protectively and braced himself. Nothing happened. H
