A Blast From The Past

*** Five Years Later **** Lauren's POV If someone told me five years ago that I would be in New York working as a lawyer, I would have told them that they were out of their minds. I mean I didn't even think that I could do this on my own. When I left my marriage, I left with what I came with. I didn't want anything from my ex-husband, not even alimony. My marriage was the most difficult time of my life. I don't wish it on anyone, which is why I left like I did. I won't lie, the first few months were the hardest. Then I met the woman who is now my best friend Summer, she helped me through a lot and even got me this job. Her father owns the law firm and when he needed a new assistant, she recommended me. I was fresh out of school and wanted to prove myself. Two years later, I now have my own office and I am pretty sure that I am on my way to making it to partner in no time. New York has been nothing short of amazing. The job is not the only thing I am grateful for, six months ago I met a man. Now when you have been where I have, you never think that falling in love could even be a possibility. I knew that I didn't want to end up alone but that I wasn't looking for anybody when he came my way. We work in the same building. His name is Anthony and he is very sweet. Even though we have been dating for a few months, the guy has been showing interest for a year. I will say that dating Anthony has been amazing. I love being around him and he loves being around me too. He is everything I wished my husband was. The man broke my heart in so many ways. It hurt too much knowing that he would never love me, knowing that he would never see me as the woman he loved, he belonged to another, long before I came into the picture. " Are you ready to go?" Summer asked. " Almost..." I said and walked to the bed to get my blazer. " How do I look?" I said to her. " Like a knockout," she said to me. I have been in New York City, living and working in Manhattan, I wanted to experience and tour the city as much as I could, which why is we ended up at Club Six O Six. Anthony has been saying a lot of good things about this club, I couldn't wait to see it for myself. We got out of the cab and we found a long line of people waiting to get in. " Anthony didn't say anything about a line," I said to Summer, as we approached the door. " No he didn't," she said. My phone rang in my purse, it was Anthony. I answered it. " Hey, where are you?" he asked. " Outside the club, we just got off the cab, there is a long line out here," I said to him. " I know, just tell the guys at the door your names, and they will let you through, do not go to the line," he said. " Okay," I said to him and hung up the phone. " And?" Summer asked. " It looks like we don't have to stand in the line, let's go," I said and walked to the door. There were two bouncers at the door, one had an iPad on him, and the other one searched people for weapons. We walked to them. " Your names," the guy with the iPad asked us. " Lauren Roberts and Summer Sterns," I said to him. He browsed his iPad and then called someone from the back. A handsome guy wearing a black t-shirt and a pair of black jeans emerged from behind the bouncer. " Trend, take them to the VIP booth upstairs," the bouncer said to the guy. I was not surprised by the VIP experience, Anthony didn't settle for anything less than that. At every club we went to, we sat in the VIP section. We followed the guy and went inside the club. When Anthony said that the place was great, I didn't expect it to be like that. There were three dance floors and I could see all of them from the entrance. The music was loud and all dance floors were packed. I have been to a few clubs but this was a different experience. We followed Trend as we went inside the glass elevator that took us upstairs. We got off and he took us to one of the rooms with glass walls and doors. We couldn't see anything from the outside, when we went inside we found Anthony sitting with his friend Spencer. Now I don't have anything against him, but the guy is a jerk and he is always fighting with Summer, I didn't think he would be here tonight. " Oh God, what is he doing here?" Summer said with an irritated tone when she saw him sitting on the red couch with a smug smile on his face. " Be nice," I said to her. " I am not promising anything," she said to me. Trend closed the door, the loud music was cut, it was now playing softly through the speakers in the booth. I sat on the couch next to Anthony. " Hey beautiful," Anthony said and kissed me. " Get a room you two!" Summer said and sat on the couch, she sat next to me. " How about we get a room," Spencer said to Summer with a smug face. " Jesus! I don't even know why you are here, nobody likes you!" she said to him. " That's not true, the ladies love me, I mean look at me, I am a catch," Spencer said. " Can you two not do this tonight?" I said to both of them. The door opened and two ladies came in with trays, they put the trays on the table, and the were about six cocktails, eight shots, two bottles of Hennessey, and two bottles of champagne. I have been to a few clubs but never one like this, the VIP section is private, we can see everything on the outside while they can't see on the inside. There was a remote to control the volume in the booth, there was a large TV screen playing music videos. The couch was very comfortable and the atmosphere was wonderful, it didn't even feel like I was in a club. " Everyone raise a glass, I have an announcement to make," Anthony said. " You do?" I said took my cocktail and held it up. " Yes I do, well I would like you all to know that I am officially a partner, the youngest in the company," He said. " Wow babe, congratulations," I said and kissed him. " Thanks," Anthony said. Summer's favorite song came on. " That's my song, I am going to the dance floor," she said and stood up. " Are you coming?" she said to me. "Sure, " I said and stood up. We walked to the dancefloor, the place was crowded but it was fun, we danced with each other and with other people, five songs later, I needed the bathroom. I went back to the booth to take my purse, Anthony was there watching a game of soccer on the big screen TV. " Where is Summer?" he asked me. " On the dancefloor, I just came for this," I said and took my purse to the table. " Are you leaving already?" He asked me. " No, I am going to the ladies, I need to powder my nose," I said to him. He nodded his head. I left the booth and went upstairs to the bathroom, there were a lot of people inside, some were drunk, some were talking on the phone and others were fixing their make-up. I went to a mirror and I took out my powder, when I was done, I made my way out of the bathroom and bumped into something hard. I looked down and saw male shoes, whoever it was, he was headed in the wrong direction. I was coming from the lady's room so he could not be there, I slowly lifted my head, and staring back at me were big blue eyes. These eyes were the eyes I knew all too well, but they were the same eyes I thought I would never see again. Right there standing next to me was a man I had hoped to never set my eyes on again. My heart was beating like it was going to burst out of my chest, my throat dried up and my eyes teared up. I couldn't believe it. The man who wasted two years of my life was standing next to me, and the devil that he is, he didn't look like he had aged a day, if anything, he was much more handsome than I remembered him to be. " Dani..." I whispered his name.
