CHAPTER FOUR: THE PLAN

You will love Kenya, we have all the beautiful sites and also our people are friendly” Semi smiled as she listened to the older driver speak. She had met Papa Andy at the airport when she had spotted him holding a piece of paper with her name written on it, Semi had approached him.   The trip from the hotel was thrilling, as they drove towards the hotel Semi could not help but be captivated by Kenya’s beauty, it seemed as though she was in a different world completely. The bright colors of the fabric each person wore stood out from the crowds and the patterns drew her near to them.   To add to her excitement, Papa Andy was a true-life character, as an old man he was full of life and his ability to make Semi laugh was endless. Papa Andy reminded her of her late father, the way he would crack jokes to make her smile.   The car had finally come to a stop and deep down Semi was disappointed that her conversation with Papa Andy would come to an abrupt end. Papa Andy unlocked the car door and Semi exited from the car, looking at how big and beautiful the hotel was, she was glad she had saved up all those years.   “Welcome my dear, to the Kenya international Hotel” Papa Andy announced to Semi.   “So this is it” Semi spoke to herself as she stared in awe of the hotel before her. She snapped herself out of her head, reminding herself that she was here for nothing other than business.   “Shall we enter my dear?” Papa Andy asked Semi who nodded her head in agreement and both Papa Andy and she entered into the hotel room, but not before Semi was greeted by the door attendant. Semi walked over to the reception desk where a lovely looking receptionist welcomed her.   “Greetings madam and how may I help you today?” The receptionist asked Semi, who reciprocated the smile, making sure that all her pearly whites shorn.   “Greetings to you too, my name is Semi Aloye and I reserved a room for myself a few days ago” Semi informed the receptionist who typed Semi’s information onto the computer and then looked back at her.    “Well, Mrs. Aloye I am pleased to inform you that your room is ready. The porter will be right here with you” the receptionist informed her and in less than a minute, her bags were being taken upstairs to her room by the porter. The ride up to her room in the elevator was a quiet one, the porter not saying anything to her other than passing a friendly smile her way.   The door of the elevator slid open and both Semi and the porter walked out, the walk down the hall to her room was a short one, seeing that she was only on the third floor of the massive hotel. She had saved up all her money for the longest time and even with all her savings, a room on the third floor was all she could afford.   “Get a hold of yourself Semi, this is a business trip and not a vacation” Semi mentally reminded herself, she knew that she had to find Neil before other reporters caught wind that he was in Kenya.   Semi had counted herself lucky when one of Neil’s workers approached her with the story of Neil taking a vacation to Africa of all places.    For as long as Semi had been writing stories about Neil, she had never heard of the man taking a break from work, some people had gone as far as calling him the robot man. It had always bothered her that Neil was always the one to work, do press briefings whilst his siblings never did anything other than spend the family fortune of the lavish lifestyle. To make matters worse, often his stories were not juicy enough to sell magazines.   There were days when Semi envied the Droviski family for their wealth, although her father had made sure that she lacked nothing in life, she had always wondered what her life would be like if she had all the money that the Droviski’s had. Just dreaming of all that money made her envy that they never had to work hard whereas Semi, herself had to work for everything she wanted in life and it seemed like every day her dream of opening her own editorial company kept slipping away.   “Here you are madam” The porter informed her and luckily for Semi, the young man’s voice broke through, allowing her to snap out of her daydream. Semi flashed a smile at the young man and followed him into the room. Semi looked around the room and smiled, the room was colorful. It was small but that was what she paid for and she could not complain about a thing, there was internet connections a bathroom and a beautiful view.   Semi turned to the young valet who stood at the door, looking at her with a smile on his face, it was only then that Semi realized that she did not tip him. She quickly reached into her bag and pulled out a few notes, hoping that the currency that she had handed to him was enough. The young man thanked her and exited her room; Semi threw herself onto the bed and lay there, looking at the ceiling. The young woman had informed her that Neil Droviski would be at this exact hotel and with her nerves shooting up; Semi hoped that she did not travel across the world to follow an empty lead.   Making her mind up and deciding not to feel sorry for herself, Semi got off from the bed and made her way towards the shower because that was just what she needed now. As soon as she was done, she walked into her room and picked up her cell phone from the bed, ten missed calls from Blaine.   Semi rolled her eyes and smiled down at her phone, knowing that that was typical of Blaine to worry about her to the point that he would dial her number ten times. Semi dialed Blaine’s number and on the second ring, Blaine answered his phone. “Oh my goodness I called you and you did not answer the phone, I was seriously about to call the police to inform them that you had been kidnapped” Blaine blurted out and his confession left Semi stunned. She had always known Blaine to overact on the simplest of matters but this went beyond his usual paranoia.   “Blaine calms down, I am fine,” Semi told him, and only then did his breathing slow down.   “Then why did you not answer the phone when I called you, like ten times,” Blaine asked her and Semi rolled her eyes on her end of the phone, not answering him would only make Blaine interrogate her the more.   She knew that she could not get out of this, Blaine was by far the companies most resourceful asset, he could get the answer out of almost anyone, no wonder a lot of celebrities and politicians hated the fact that he was at almost every briefing.   “Well, I was taking my shower when you were calling” Semi responded and it seemed as though her answer had calmed Blaine down a bit.   “Well that is good to hear, have you begun looking for Neil yet?” Blaine was quick to ask and honestly, Semi wished that she had a better answer for him.   “No, literally just arrived and took my shower” Semi confessed, trying her best not to sound disappointed but she let it slip through.   “Semi stops beating yourself up about this, you will find Neil and you will get your big break.   Now cheer up and rest, you have a job to do and you must give it your all or do not do it at all” Blaine spoke his words of encouragement, and that put Semi at ease.   “Yes, I will” Semi responded with a smile on her face, talking with Blaine had put her in a cheerful mood, more than she was at earlier.   “Good now go take care of things, I have to interview the scandalous model, Pretty Delos on her affair with the Spanish Spaniard,” Blaine informed her just before ending the call.     Looking down at her phone, Semi smiled she had no idea what the next day would bring but all she knew was that she would use her business trip as a part of a vacation, the vacation she had been longing for.   **   “I am sorry Mr. Droviski but it is the busy season and most of the shuttles are busy. I am well aware that you used Mr. Andy’s services yesterday, am I right?” The receptionist asked Neil in which he nodded his head in agreement. The start of his vacation was not exactly what Neil was expecting it to be, for starters, he was finding out that he would be sharing the shuttle with some strange woman and all this because they were going towards the game reserve together. Neil looked at his watch and the woman in question was already ten minutes late, if there was one thing that Neil hated more than anything, it was being late for anything in life. He lived by the famous words ‘the early bird gets the worm’ and it seemed as though the woman in question did not value his time.
