20 The noise nearly made me jump out of my skin. I fumbled through my bag and caught the call on the last ring. “Hey, Mom! Sorry about not calling you earlier. I didn’t have reception.” I couldn’t miss the relief in her voice. “I thought as much, but I couldn’t help but try to give you a call and find out how you’re doing.” I glanced up at our host. Greylock leaned on his cane and watched me with curiosity in his strange eyes. “I’m doing pretty well. I should be home tomorrow-” Greylock shook his head. “Or maybe the day after that.” “That long?” my mom asked me. “I found this neat place to stay overnight.” My mom sighed and I felt like she just expended a metric ton of tension. “Well, if that’s all then I should let you go.
