SYCHAEUS’ TREASURE REVEALED
When Melampus had gone, leaving the sisters to rest from their journey, the princesses took stock of their host. “What do you think of Melampus?” said Elissa.
“I like him. He is a smart man.” Anna’s thoughtful expression gave her an air of maturity contrasting her otherwise adolescent appearance. She paused and twirled a ringlet of hair around her finger. Elissa saw this as a sign that Anna was holding something back.
“But something bothers you about him?”
“I was just wondering why Sychaeus would send us here. Do you think Melampus knows where Sychaeus’ treasure is hidden?”
“No…if he did I think he would tell us.” Elissa remained silent for a few moments, then added, “He seems to agree with the idea of going to Egypt to look for land.”
