Secret Dragon

We’ve all heard about dragons, but for such a popular beast, maybe they’re just misunderstood. Some think they’re just enormous and scary. True, they are enormous, but not all dragons are scary. The Isle of Durcana where dragons of all types coexist mostly happily. Separated by different climates. Mountains, forest, tundra, desert, and a volcano just off shore. There are two capitals, one for dragons and one for humans. The one for dragons is called Galvan and the human capital is Crovaria. But I’m getting ahead of myself. Let’s start at the beginning. It all started originally in Galvan at the local market. Wyvern “I got to bring something home! I can’t go empty-handed.” I look at my small change in my hand and I know I can’t get anything big. Maybe dad will find something while hunting. I saw the meat stand and there was a huge venison, maybe even elk leg! “That’d probably last us the rest of the month!” I slapped my bit of change on the table and ran! “Hey, come back here! You need to pay for the rest of that!” The booth owner shouts, but I just keep running! “Stop! Thief!” Someone in the crowd shouts and the palace guards are on my tail! “Crap!” I partially shift so my wings are out and I fly as fast as I can! The guards do the same and I can’t shake them! Luckily, they don’t go past the capital, so all I need to do is get to Flurris and I’m free! Flurris is the snowy part of the kingdom and only some water, snow and ice dragons live there. Luckily for me, I’m an ice dragon! I could almost smell the snow and I turned around and the palace guards had given up on me! Yes, I’m free for now! I flew down into the trees to land and I just realized that I couldn’t go home… they’ll probably go there first to see if I go back… damn it! How can I help now!? My mom is human, and my dad is also an ice dragon. Luckily for me, I got more of dad’s dragon genes I guess. My name is Wyvern Tiamat and now I guess I’m a fugitive… Galvan takes stealing seriously! It’s a minimum of five years' jail time for stealing! I’m 25, so I guess it wouldn’t be horrible, but I haven’t found my mate yet and usually dragons my age would have fledglings by now, but because of my family, no one has wanted to be noticed by me. Maybe I can find a cave somewhere and make that my home. I fully shift into my dragon, Hayle. She’s absolutely beautiful! She sparkles like lavender, icy blues and light purple stones! Her tail has this arrow-like end, so we suppose it is for protection. Her horns and tail end are pure icy white. Yet she has the deepest blue eyes. She is the prettiest, in my opinion. At around 13, I found out about her ice abilities and that she could breathe ice. It comes into good use when it gets too hot. She’s no tiny dragon, oh no… 16ft height, 20ft length dragon form, 30ft wingspan! So finding a big enough cave for me to fit is going to be a challenge. I walk around and the ground is cold. I can feel the air shifting from the warmer climate of the capital to the coldness of Flurris… ugh I don’t like it! How ironic for an ice dragon to not like the cold… well she likes it, I don’t… we finally find a big enough cave and I rest my wings for the night. As tempting as the meat is, I want to attempt to save it for my family. I curl up in this cave and attempt to get some sleep. The next day, the sun was so bright reflecting off the light snow that must’ve fallen overnight. We slowly make our way out of the cave, and we fly home. Once I recognize my homeland. I flew down and walked the rest of the way. Luckily, my phone is still in tack and I see 20 messages from dad wondering where I am. I texted him I’m ok and got some meat. When I get to my family’s property, I can see the guards pounding on the door. “Hollis Tiamat! Open the door! We’re here for the arrest warrant of Wyvern Tiamat!” The guards yelled through the door. Crap… I dropped the meat where it was and just left. I went back to the icy cave. I was just hoping the guards wouldn't smell my scent. “Well, I guess this is my new home now…” I shift into Hayle so I don’t freeze to death. I smell another deer close by the cave and I stalk it… waiting for it to come close so I don’t have to venture out too much. Once it got as close as I wanted it to, I charged and ate it. That’ll last me for a while. It’s probably too cold except for snow and ice dragons for anyone else to think of coming this way, so maybe the guards won’t look here. So, as long as I stay here, I’ll be safe. I’ll just stay in dragon form for as long as I need to. I drift off to sleep hoping my parents are safe…
