“Hey,” I greeted Daniel at his locker on Monday morning. He closed it, fist-bumping James while ignoring me completely. Well then. “See? I knew it wouldn’t last once he got what he wanted,” Harper said. “So how was that hookup Friday night?” I smirked, and her face went pale. “Y-you saw?” “Him leaving, yes.” “You can’t tell anyone about that; it was my first time with a college guy.” “Surprised, but this is going to cost you.” “What?” “Get Daniel to talk to me.” She chuckled. “He hates me more than you right now. If you want him to talk to you, ask that wannabe Madison; they were close once,” she shrugged. They were? “Dated?” “People mistook them for being an item because they acted that way, but no.” In biology class, I watched Daniel take notes as I wrote in my book: "I'm sorry for ditching you Saturday and understand if you hate me, but at least don’t give me the silent treatment." He read it and whispered, “I don’t hate you; I’m just pissed you’re giving guys your number willingly.” “Jealous much?” I smirked. “Nope, but I bet you will be when I tell you I hooked up with a hot girl Saturday night,” he said, smirking back. Time to act. “Oh,” I feigned surprise. “Are you jealous?” he laughed. I forced tears into my eyes and looked at him. “It’s not funny,” I sniffed, making his smile drop. “I’m sorry, Jordan, I—” “Miss, can I go to the washroom? It’s an emergency,” I raised my hand. “Sure, Jordan.” I grabbed my bag and left, the period almost over anyway. I stayed in the washroom until class ended. °*°*°*° Daniel tried talking to me all morning, but I continued the silent treatment. “Mind if I sit with you guys?” I asked Madison, pulling up a chair and resting my tray on the table. “Not at all, but why does Daniel keep looking over here?” she frowned. I glanced at him and quickly looked back down at my food. “What’s going on between you two?” Maya asked, dressed in a short skirt and tank top. “Nothing really. He ignored me this morning, so I’m returning the favor. What about you and Eric? Have you talked to him yet?” She sighed. “It’s complicated. I overheard him talking to his friends about his ex-girlfriend and thinking of asking her out again since he still has feelings for her.” Poor Maya. “This is why I let the guy come to me,” Carmella said, sitting next to me. Someone cleared their throats, and we all turned to see Chris. Oh boy. “Y-yeah?” Maya stuttered, not every day a popular guy with aquamarine blue eyes talks to you. “Um, I was wondering if you’re busy tomorrow night?” He scratched his neck, clearly nervous. “Uh, no actually,” she said, shaking her head. “Well, I was thinki—” “Yes!” She blurted, startling him. “I mean, yes, of course, you can take me out,” she corrected herself. He smiled. “Great! I’ll see you then at 6:30.” He left, grinning. “OMG! Did Christopher Roberts just ask you out?” Madison gasped. “I believe so, yes,” Maya grinned. “What about Eric?” I whispered. He was still watching our table, glancing at Maya a few times. “He’s still crushing on his ex. I don’t have time for guys like him; besides, Chris is way hotter.” °*°*°*° “Hey Jordan, I need to talk to you,” Daniel said as I opened my locker. I ignored him, taking out my book. “Look, I’m sorry, okay? I know I’m a jerk, and I forgive you for ditching me Saturday. You needed girl time, and I understand,” he said. He had to do better than that. Players love hard-to-get girls, and I can play that role well. I shut my locker, adjusted my bag strap, and walked the opposite way. “Hey, I’m not finished talking to you,” he caught up just as I saw James talking to a guy from their lacrosse team. “Let’s get to geography class,” I linked my arm with his as he finished. “Wow, Dan already broke your heart, darling?” he grinned. “Nope, we’re not dating.” “Hey, I—” Daniel paused, spotting us, frowning. “Look man, she’s the one who did this; I was minding my own business,” James defended. “It’s fine. Jordan, we’ll have our unfinished conversation later.” He turned and left. “Wait, I don’t get it; I don’t do geography,” James frowned. “But I can escort a hot girl anytime,” he smirked, and I rolled my eyes. Daniel's POV I watched as James and Jordan walked down the hallway together. Now I understood how it felt to be ignored by a hot girl. I’d never experienced that before, and I knew I wouldn't like surprises like this. “Hey Daniel,” a blonde girl giggled as I passed. “Um, do I know you?” She giggled. “Yes, we hooked up at James’ Halloween party. Remember?” I frowned, racking my brain until it hit me—she was the blonde in the vampire costume. “Vampire girl?” “Yes!” she shrieked. “What’s your name again?” “It’s Bella. Doing anything later?” The good thing about being a player is girls come to me; I don't have to chase them—until Jordan showed up. “No, actually,” I smirked. “Cool, here’s my address if you want to swing by tonight.” She smiled, handing me a paper. I took it and pushed her against the lockers, kissing her deeply before leaving. "When will you ever change?" a voice asked. I turned around to see Madison. We used to be close, but then things fell apart. "What do you mean, Maddie?" "I saw what just happened. You used to be a caring guy. What happened to him?" "He got replaced," I said, clenching my fist. After that day, I transformed into the heartless person I am now. "Is it possible to find him again?" she asked, sadness in her sky-blue eyes. "I doubt it. We shouldn't be talking; I don't want to ruin my reputation," I replied, noticing the hurt in her expression. "This is why we aren't friends anymore. You care more about your stupid reputation than our years of friendship!" she yelled. "Mad, it's not like tha—" "I don't want to hear it. I needed you that day," she cried before running off. She needed me? I thought—forget it. The damage is done. I sighed, needing air and a distraction. I knew Madison wouldn't forgive me easily—who would after what I did? Then there was Jordan, whom I needed to stop ignoring. Things to do: Make Jordan fall for me before June and hopefully get her in bed. Talk to Madison, explain what happened that day, and hope for her forgiveness. Tell Eric to decide if he really wants Ava back. They broke up for a reason, and I don't want to see my buddy distressed over her again.
