Chapter 1
*** Angelina‘a POV *** * “Run, Taylor. Someone is coming.” Colton whispered as he stumbled on his feet towards me. He didn't need to tell me twice. I sprinted towards the direction of the exit of school right behind him as we heard footsteps coming closer. I couldn't risk getting caught again. That would be my last chance flying out of the window right there. My best friend Colton and I always got into trouble, so the principal gave me one last chance to prove that I really wanted to stay in school and finish my studies. I was ashamed to admit it, but I was over 20 years old, and I was still going to high school. It was my senior year for the third time, but I really liked to go to that school because my best friend was there with me all the time. That was the main reason I stuck there with him for longer than necessary. We always played pranks on our teachers and made fun of them, which didn't end well for us at the end of the year because they always failed us both. We didn't really mind because at least we could still go to the same school, and we didn't need to start working like our parents wanted us to. We had fun and that was what always mattered. At this time, we wanted to place a stinking bomb in the office of our math teacher. “Did you manage to put it under her chair?” I asked him as soon as we left the school grounds. “Yeah, I did. I hope nobody saw us.” He said breathlessly, and I nodded my head in agreement. “Yeah, I hope that too. I just wish we could install the camera as well to see her reaction.” I told him with a chuckle. We were interrupted, so we couldn't finish our mission. “Yeah, that would have been priceless to see, but maybe we can watch it live.” He said while he wriggled his eyebrows suggestively, and I let out a laugh at his silly expression. “No, we can’t get caught. Remember?” I told him and he shrugged his shoulders nonchalantly. “We won’t get caught, Taylor. Come on.” Colton said, and I shook my head at his crazy ideas before I followed him towards the back of the building where the windows of the math teacher’s office were. Everybody hated the old rag. She was too strict, and she didn't even let us move an inch in her class, let alone talk. We had never listened to her though. That’s why she always hated us and failed us without a question. “If we are going to risk it, then I need to record this.” I said and took my phone out of my pocket to film everything, so we could watch it later and show the video to Bobby, our friend, along with our classmates. “Good idea,” Colton said, and we peaked through the window to see Mrs. Coleman walked into the room without suspecting anything. “Hide.” I whispered and we both bent down because she looked towards the window. I lifted my phone above the windowsill, so only the corner of my phone would be seen if she looked in our direction again and started recording. “Aaaaah.” We heard her screaming when the bomb went off without making any loud noise and we both tried to hide our laughter, but we failed miserably. It was just so funny. “What the f*ck? This stinks.” She said, and we had never heard her curse before, so that made the prank even funnier and made us laugh even harder. Especially when she started gagging from the smell. “Sh*t, she is coming this way.” Colton said and we both tried to get out of there and turn the corner as fast as possible, before she spotted us. “I think we are good.” I said to Colt while I was trying to catch my breath. “Yeah, I think so too. I think the smell was burning her eyes anyway, so she didn’t see us.” He said, and we started laughing again while we made our way to his car hurriedly. “You know, even though we both know that we shouldn't do this, it was worth it because it was so much fun. Did you see her face? She looked ridiculous.” I told him with a chuckle. “Yeah. Even if they find out that we did it, it was worth it.” He said as we got into the car. “I don't think they will fail us again though. They want to get rid of us so badly, that I think they will just let us pass.” he said confidently, and I nodded my head in agreement while we were still laughing. “I hope you are right because my parents want to send me to my grandparents for the whole summer if I fail again.” I told him with a grimace, and he looked at me in surprise. “Really? That sucks.” He whined. “What am I going to do without you for the whole summer? I will be stuck here with Bobby,” he said with a sour face. “Then what about me? What am I going to do there alone? It would be so boring. They have a huge house in a rich neighborhood a few thousand miles away from here, but all that means nothing without my friends there.” I complained. “Really? Your grandparents are loaded?” He asked in surprise and I nodded my head. “I almost felt sorry for you.” He added sarcastically and let out a laugh. “Maybe they would let me join you. We will have the best summer ever. I am sure they have a swimming pool as well,” he said excitedly. “Of course they have, but you are the main reason my parents want to send me there, Colt. They said you are a distraction, so I can’t concentrate on studying or how to be a decent lady while you are around.” I told him with a chuckle and he pouted his lips. “I guess they are right. My parents say the same about you.” He said and we both laughed again. Colton and I have been best friends since we started high school. We clicked right away on the first day, and we have been inseparable ever since then, to our parents' dismay. “I think they agreed together to send me away by the way.” I said with a chuckle. “Yeah, that’s possible. Our mothers have been meeting a lot lately. Don’t worry though. We didn’t get caught today and even if they send you away, I will come to visit you either way.” He said and I grinned at him. “Of course you would. That wasn’t even a question,” I said, and we arrived at Bobby’s house. Colton parked his car, and we made our way up the stairs to Bobby’s apartment. “What’s up?” Bobby asked when we walked into his house without knocking or ringing the bell. We used to hang out at his house a lot, so it was normal. “You will like this.” I told him and went to show him the video of our math teacher. Bobby was our classmate two years ago, but he graduated with everyone else, when we were supposed to graduate as well. Mrs. Coleman was his math teacher too, so he knew who she was. “No way.” He said with a broad grin when I started to play it to him. “That’s huge. I am sure a lot of students will thank you for this. I think they would even pay to see it.” Bobby said with a laugh and sent the video to his phone right away before handing my phone back to me. “That’s why you were late?” He asked as he ran his hand through his dark hair. “Yeah.” Colt told him while his attention was on the video game that he had just started playing. “I thought you guys wanted to stop with the pranks and graduate at this time,” Bobby said, and I nodded my head. “Yeah, that's the plan, but this was the last one.” I told him with a shrug of my shoulders and went to play with Colt. He looked like a child while he was sitting on the floor in front of the TV, concentrating on the game. Colton had dark hair and almost black eyes with a well-built physique. He was tall and a good-looking guy, but I had never looked at him that way. I knew about too many embarrassing situations he was in to like him romantically, and I think he felt the same way about me. We were kind of like siblings, who were farting in front of each other and who didn’t care about sleeping in the same bed after a movie night. Bobby was our friend too, the three of us stuck together like the three musketeers and I loved hanging out with the two of them. I had a few friends of my gender as well at school, but they were a bit too girlish for me to hang out with more than once a week. They only cared about bags, shoes and boys. I was not a 'tomboy'. I used to dress up like every girl does, so don’t get me wrong, but it wasn’t important to me to actually talk about those things and own hundreds of dresses, bags and high heels. I used to wear make-up occasionally as well. Mostly, when I looked like sh*t after we played video games for the whole night, but we needed to attend school the next day. I think make-up is a really useful thing. It’s a trick to deceive the world, but mostly our parents, that we actually sleep at night just like we were supposed to. “Angie, didn’t your parents say that they would cut you off if you fail again?” Bobby asked as he took a seat next to us on the floor. “Aren’t you taking their warning too easily?” He asked worriedly and I shrugged my shoulders. “No, I don’t think I do. They love me. They won’t leave me without money, no matter what I do,” I told him confidentially. “Yeah, that’s why they came up with the idea of sending her away for the summer. Far away from us.” Colt said without taking his eyes off of the screen. “What? Really?” Bobby asked in surprise and I nodded my head. “Yeah, but we didn’t get caught today and my grades are good for a D in every subject, so I am not worried.” I told them nonchalantly. “I hope you are right because I would miss you too much if you had to leave,” Bobby said, and I grinned at him before I turned back to the game. “Don’t worry, buddy. You won’t get rid of me so easily.” I said with a chuckle and they both let out a laugh. I hoped that I was right, and it wouldn't come to the point that I would need to leave for the summer. That would really suck.
