Ch 5 Madeline POV ■■■ I wipe the sweat off my forehead as I text Vance saying that I am leaving. “Why, the party is just getting started” His reply his quick. Stopping on my step, I turn around holding my breath when I see no one around I fumble my fingers, typing “I'm feeling sick, sorry. See you at the office tomorrow” I hit the send button as I put my phone into my wallet. Adjusting my hair, I run my hand down my chest. I had to hide the bracelet inside my plunge bra. And I'm literally shaking, as I made my way outside. I am for sure going to throw up, I got to get the hell out of here before someone finds what went wrong. My ankle almost twists in the heels I'm wearing, but I sigh out of relief when I spot my car. Grabbing the keys, I rush towards it, but . . . A pair of hands grabs me off the floor, pulling me aside! “Ahh” I scream out before the hand comes around my mouth, making me stop And I blink hard, frozen in the second. When my body is slammed against some car, the pair of hand grips my waist. “Who are you ?let me go, this instant. Or I am screaming out loud” I yell, my voice starting to crack up. My throat turned dry. But when I am flipped around , I recognize the pink suit, that makes me more nervous. But I pretend like I have no idea who the person is. The man I stole from. The same pink velvet suit, white shirt with a black bow around his neck and black trousers matching his dark black hair. I notice his brown eyes staring at me, while I feel his scent fill my nostrils. Leaving me clueless. Numb. “Go ahead and scream” His voice… Deep Husky Soft Yet in a breathy way. His lips move slightly as he speaks before he takes a step back, but his hands come by either side of my body against the car. Caging me in. His eyes narrowed down. “Let me go” I whimper. As I try to push his hand. But he doesn't move. Not even a blink. “What's your name?” He questions. “Let me go. Now” I grit out. Not wanting to become a victim again. “Tell me your name, and I'll let you go” He assures And I lick my dry lips. As my stomach growls out with an unknown fear in me. “Lynn” I lie. Not wanting to tell him my real name. What if he knows my dad? Oh God. He knows that I was the thief. That's why he has followed me. What is he going to do now? “Good try. Now tell me what's your name? Like for real” The corner of his lips curls up as he stares at me! “That is my name” I counter back. Not knowing what else to say! “Don't lie. Tell me your name” His smile widens. Leaving me dumbfounded. “What makes you think it was a lie?" I hit back, my hands shivering. Sweaty palms. “I have special powers. I'm like a psychic. So don't lie to me” He speaks out, as he takes a step front. His eyes on my lips. I look away quickly, turning my face away. Feeling intimidated. “Your name?” He repeats, his breath falls against my cheek. But he doesn't touch me. Not wanting to tempt the devil in the pink suit, I answer his question “Madeline” And he let's out a chuckle, pleased by my answer. “So Madeline, did you enjoy the party” He questions, his thumb pressed against my jaw as he makes me face him. “I am calling security. This is harassment. You are harassing me” I push his hand away as I speak out, sternly! “Go ahead. Call them, I have a compliant to file too” His voice makes me shiver. Dark tone as his eyes runs down my body. Like he is searching for something “What?” I ask weakly. Knowing that he knows it was me. “Where did you hide it Inside the wallet or ?” He asks, sternly Before he takes a step back, his hands inside his pockets as he asks “Give me the bracelet” In a demanding tone! “I don't know what you are talking about” I play the fool's round. “That was a gift. A special gift and it is one of my richest possession when it comes to jewelry” He states, shaking his head in a melancholic way And my stomach burns. Feeling like s**t. Anger upon myself. Why did I do this? Why did I get so desperate to cheat this way, instead of figuring out something else legal? “So give it me Or I'm calling the security, You are not going to leave the building without being checked. That means when they will hold up the security alert on you. You will be deeply shamed, maybe in front of the whole crowd. And I feel it would be better not to do that. I'm a good guy, if you haven't guessed already. A very good guy” He smiles even though his words comes out like a wicked threat like a slap and hug at the same time! And giving up, I turn my body slightly As my hand, reaches the v neck of my dress “Oh right There you go, Good way to put that bra to use” He smirks, his eyes never once blinking away. The way he speaks, so bluntly, makes me nervous. “Turn around” I grit out, angered. But he doesn't, So I turn around fully. Hiding the shame. As my back faces him! “So tell me something, how old are you?” I hear his question And I scoff “No” “Madeline?” He takes my name in a way that makes me want to bury him alive “What?” I question, finally pulling out the bracelet which was stuck around my bra hook in the front. “Did you just say no to me?” He questions, his voice stunned And I turn around, putting my hand out giving him his bracelet Wanting to just leave before my life ends. “Put it on me” He orders as he lifts his wrist and I shake my head. Like it's a no. “Security, I want the CCTV footage. We have…” His loud tone, makes me swallow hard Add I take his hand, putting the bracelet around his wrist But my fingers shiver like crazy. “Do you know who I am?” One more question, and I ignore him. Trying to focus! “Want to know my name?” Another question. “No” I answer quickly “No? What about my number?” He teases, making me roll my eyes before I grit out “No” again! “Such a shame That was easy” He comments dryly And I turn around to leave, but he grabs my elbow, making me stop. “Whose dress is this?” He questions, while I struggle to pull myself away from this man. “It's none of your business, Just leave me alone” I growl, impatient. Not understanding why is not letting me go. I gave what he wanted! “Pink doesn't suit you, Wear red. Your lips will look more attractive And nude lipstick is a big no. And I hate the makeup on your face. It's too cakey. Also, don't borrow dresses. It looks like your drowning in it” He speaks out with a confidence in his voice like his opinions matters. “I didn't ask for your opinion” I counter back. Wanting him to know, I'm not easy. “Where is your car?” He questions before he grabs the keys out of my wallet, leaving me dumbfounded in the way he moved. And he walks around trying to figure out which car is mine. I look around quickly. And it's just the both of us in the huge parking lot. And the hopes of me being saved diminishes. “You didn't answer my question. How old are you?” He asks, unlocking my car door. He moves so confident, like he knows what he is doing. Opening the driver's door for me, he stands straight. His lips holding a sly smile. And I stumble on my steps. Wanting to get inside my car and f*****g leave. But when I get there. He blocks the way, as he comes between. And my face hits his chest. A small groan escapes my throat. “How old are you?” He asks, as he holds me by my shoulders “Old enough to drive” I answer, feeling captive. “Show me you're license” He questions, as he moves away from the way. And I quickly get inside, ignoring his demand “You don't want your keys?” He smiles, as he leans down. Holding my keys in his hand. And that's when I notice the metal ring on his finger, flowers craved on the metal that looks like an angel sitting on the devil's crown. “Here” He puts his hand out And when I go to reach for it, he grabs my hand, making me want to scream out, frustrated. “Do you want money or something? Are you in trouble?” He questions, with a hint of concern. And I grit my teeth! “No. I don't want anything from you” I make my point clear! “Are you kleptomaniac? Like, do you get the urge to steal or something? If yes, you need help” He questions as his thumb, rubs my wrists softly And I try to pull my hand away! “Just let me go” I whisper, my voice turned low “You're lucky. It was me. And you know what? I knew the minute you flicked it out, my wrist. But what can I say? I was waiting to get you alone. To have this conversation with you. So, I followed you out quietly” He smiles, holding my hand. While my eyes bulge out, at his revelation. “Next time if we cross paths. I'm not letting you go. This time you are just lucky" His voice turns dead serious. And the smile on his face disappears. I just blink, stuck. He brings my hand to his lips and plants a kiss on my knuckles before letting me go. I ignore the kiss, as my body feels hot. It's like he just set me on fuel. I start my car quickly, fumbling my keys around. “Let's consider this as a date. And end it with a sweet note” He adds, watching me. I ignore it again, when my car starts, I sigh out of relief. “Xander. Xander is my name. You can call me Xan” I ignore his eyes which are still on me, like a predator, as I drive out. Not caring if I crash into something. Till I get on the highway, I don't stop. I am speeding. Breaking all the rules. And once I hit the highway, I look behind. Making sure I'm not being followed. He can be a maniac for all I can guess. Putting my car on break, I look around to find the water bottle. Which I always carry, it helps me to calm myself. Feeling parched. But when I notice the bracelet lying down, but with a gold wrapped chocolate, just on the other seat of my car… I blink hard, not believing why he would do this. And that's when I believe his words. He followed me out, not to get his bracelet back. But to have the conversation with me. He meant what he said. Xander. Who is he? next time I'm not letting you go.....
