Chapter 6

(Alexia POV) ‘Alexia where the hell are you?’ my mother’s voice rang through the mind link. ‘Hunting, Ma’ I said as I dragged my prey by my teeth. Reaching my usual favorite place by the waterfall, I dropped the dead deer and went to drink water. I then sat there and just stared at the beautiful scene in front of me. I’m so happy. I’m so damn happy. Owen is mine and mine only. He is my mate. He is my other half. A smile made way to my lips as I stared at the sky. It is such a wonderful day… I looked at the dead deer. It’s a tradition that on your 18th birthday you have to hunt and feed your family and mate. I just hope this deer is enough. I chose the biggest in the herd that was in the open meadow. I hate hunting innocent animals but I am a predator and it’s a tradition that shows love and responsibility to the ones dear to us. After lounging around lazily I took the deer and went home. The party was still in full swing but everyone was now outside eating the buffet and enjoying the pool. Cheers started to go as they saw my wolf coming from the woods with the prey showing that I fulfilled the tradition. My parents smiled as they walked to me with a proud smile. I started to wag my tail as my dad scratched the back of my ear. “Let me take that to the kitchen dear. You go and change for the pool party” she said as I nodded and walked inside. Reaching my room I quickly changed into a two piece swimming suit and put on a long mid thigh top. Making my way to the pool my eyes landed on the deer I killed in the kitchen sink. I should call in early so I can start making dinner for them. It's a tradition to make the food by ourselves. At first, it was eaten raw by the family. The werewolf who turned 18 kills the prey and tears it and feed their family and mate. Now the idea of raw is not so common although there are some who still follow it. But now it usually consists of killing the prey and single handed cleaning and cooking the food they killed before serving their family. You are only allowed to eat the leftover after they are fed and satisfied. After walking around and talking to everyone, I quickly slid from the boring party and went to the kitchen to prepare my food. I cleaned the bloodied meat although many times I felt like puking, which is also considered weird since I have killed a lot of rouges in my life. Then I cut the meat, made the gravy, and cooked the food. I opened the lid of the food, and a delicious and satisfying smell came from the pot making my mouth water. “It smells amazing,” mother said walking in with a smile. I smiled back and took a small spoon and blew the hotness. I gave it to my mother and she tastes it before nodding her head. “A little more salt and it's perfect,” she said as I nodded. After finishing my cooking episode I turned off the stove and looked at mom only to grasp. Her eyes were filled with tears as she looked at me. “Oh! You’re all grown up!” she cried as she hugged me. “I only feel like it's yesterday when you run around n***d in the kitchen demanding to feed you milk!’ she said as I blushed. “MOM!” I said as I separated from her covering my ears from her embarrassing series of my childhood stories. “Smells delicious” Amath, my cousin said coming in with his parents and dad. “Is the party over?” I asked. “Not really. Beta Ellen will take care of it.” Dad said as I nodded. “Now serve us, women. I’m hungry. All those delicious food on the buffet table and couldn’t have a single one because of the tradition." “You, my boy have an appetite of an elephant,” his mom said as we all laugh. That’s right. It's a tradition that that family should only feel satisfied with the food made by the person feeding them. And since such a tradition is done they will not eat anything from the birthday buffet or anywhere else. “I'll grab the plates. You set the rest.” Mom said as I nodded. I put the hot pot of the deer roast and curry on the table along with others. I then took a container from the shelves and filled it with some of everything. I felt the other’s stare but I ignored them and continued filling containers with a part of everything. I then put in on the fridge before I start to serve others. “Umm who was that for?” Amath asked as others stared eagerly for the answer. “My mate,” I said as I kept serving as though it’s not a big deal. But speaking the truth I was jumping and dancing on the inside trying my best not to blush or giggle or show any emotion outside. “You found your mate?” Dad asks as I nodded my head. “And you didn’t bother telling us?” mom voiced this time. “Well I have been telling you since young, so I thought it’s not a big of a deal,” I said smirking internally. “That human boy!” Mom asked standing up as I raised my eyebrow. “Yes, that human boy,” I said as she growled. “A human cannot be an Alpha! Are you insane! People will object” she shouted as I growled. “He is my mate, mother. Moon goddess destined us to be together. I get it you are afraid. I’m not saying I’m not. I’m afraid too but it’s the plan of the goddess. She knows what to do. Do you think I’m not terrified? Terrified of the fact that my mate still has to know who I really am? Of his reaction? How the pack will react.” I say as others stared at me with wide eyes. “I’m terrified. I really am. But I love him, Ma. I really do. I want to be with him. I want to be in his arms. I want my pack to love him. Respect him. And I know he will earn the respect. Sure he is a bad boy. Getting into trouble. But he is also kind, caring, and concerned. He protects the ones he loves. He is in every way a perfect leader and mate. Give him a chance and I’m sure he will prove your worth” I said as tears threaten to fall from my eyes. “Alexia. I’m sorry” my mom said as she came and hugged me. “I know you are terrified and we are too. But I guess we can do nothing but accept it.” She said as my eyes widen. “Tell you what. Bring him home tomorrow. Let’s have dinner with him.” She said smiling down at me. ”Thank you!” I shouted as I hugged her. “Now let’s eat,” she said as I nodded. I took a leftover ham and cheese and started eating it. “Why are you eating that?” Dad asked as I looked at him with a smile. “My mate hasn’t eaten his share,” I said as he smiled, happiness evident in his eyes.
