chapter 1. Introduction
chill had started to set in the weather, it was September already. all my friends had already got placed into different colleges in the first round; while I was still waiting. finally there was this third round and I got into this Himalayan medschool in dehradun. most discussed city "fab spot for visits but medicine..??" kept ringing in my mind, but I had listed it out among my 6 priorities for a reason I convinced myself and accepted to move out to dehradun. Also, I could enjoy the snow and the beautiful valleys with my cousins shiven and shival whose house I would be staying at for 6 years degree.
day 1 of college excited to be at a medschool, I went in but the environment and vibes felt entirely different from the one that I was used to until now. the campus was serene and beautiful with tall pines amd firs lining the entire stretched. they even had different species of plants amd trees across the garden. the campus was over crowded with people in white coats of different size and shapes, people were all disciplaned and silent in all the corridors, everyone smiled and bowed politely to one another in respect, the huge building was silenced in and out. the walls of the building was painted with pictures of doctors and achievers of all times. the air breathed some kind of serenity and pride in it. watvhing the beautiful luxurious ambience of the college I walked to the room pointed for freshers, the doors to the classroom were still close and about a 100 students in colorful clothes amd cheerful faces waited patiently outside the room for the doors. as I approached the crowd the doors had been opened and students rushed in to grab their favorite spots with better view of the teacher and the projector in the classroom. I hesitantly entered the room and I found 2 girls sitting by the window with an emptyseat beside them, they were the first two people to notice me in that crowd. though they were strangers they happily welcomed me to company them and I suddenly felt some kind of warmth. They had gotten accustomed to this environment as they had joined earlier in first round counselling. they showed me around the college. hours went by and in each class every new lecturer wound notice a new comer and I went on to introduce myself to the class. after about 5 rounds of introduction in that week my classmates seemed to have byhearted my intro already, so some of them repeated along with me.
Among them, was this particular guy tall, lean, dark and handsome, with dark eyes a ridiculously mischievous appearance and reluctant behaviour. I called him 'the know all guy- Viren Rathore' as his demeanor was like he knew everything and understood every single person by just a look. he was the most mocky of them all. I was irritated by him for his exaggerated mockery and mean attitude. then I convinced myself that I'm here with an intent to do something with my life and I do not have time for such morons anymore.
I was just saying to Dr. Ramji about my uncle, who was a great practitioner and researcher back in my place, when this the know all guy burst out laughing. I was extremely offended by his behaviour but chose not to react as my professor had already taken care of him by shutting him up.
My bench mates nimrit and resham were spitting daggers at him, and resham continued to curse him gritted her teeth, as this was his behaviour towards every single girl; but he was unaffected by any of it.
Days passed by and almost 6 months through the 1st yr medschool we 3 had managed to ignore Viren successful and shut him off of his tactics on us. now he left us untouched by him amd his mischievous band. but I had started to notice that many girls were fond of him lately for his popularity among the seniors grew loud and he had managed to make an image of the cool dude not bothered by anyone.
Then came the grand event, the medical forum for all newbies to learn ways of life in medicine. we had all registered for this, about half the class was ready to amd this was organized in Kolkata this year my place. so the responsibility of arranging our trip fell on me. I tried ways to reach from Doon to Kolkata but needed somebody help to manage the arrangements. I spoke to one of the guy applicants, my friend Mitesh Kaling, he conveniently budged the task on to his friend 'Viren'. apparently this know all guy really knew a lot about travels and tours. so I was forced to communicate with this irritating brat for I had a task on my shoulders and I wanted to do it right. so, I decided to talk to him for help once and get it over with.
The clock hit 12 and as decided me and Mitesh walked to this irritating guy for help. I was few steps away when I heard giggles from the window and they came from where the know all guy and his friends sat. they had sensed my arrival and were ploting ways to irritate me.
"your bimbo with braids is here to assign you a task" said mockily shenaz to Viren
"ooh! I'm at your service maam" said Viren in a feminine imitation. and they all laughed at my face.
I ignored their act and went on to talk about my business.
"we need to go to Kolkata for the forum, we have about 33 students that need booking for train to Kolkata on 5th April. I found there are only 2 trains to Kolkata from here and not very convenient, could you chart out some other way to travel to Kolkata ?? I asked him staunchly. his demeanor changed he got serious all of a sudden and listened to me keenly. I was surprised to see this guy shift forms so easily but most importantly he could even behave well before a girl who was in need of his assistance.
"there are other routes to go to Kolkata by train, if you could get everyone to agree for a train ride I will find other conviniet and faster routes from here by tomorrow." he said promptly.
I agreed on convincing our friends for a train journey rather than flight amd turned to leave, when he stopped me midway " I'm sorry if our behaviour earlier hurt you, we were only having fun, there was no other hidden intent." Viren said sincerely and his words touched me and my anger and disgust melt down water in an instant and unknowingly I smiled back at him meekly amd foolishly amd walked away.
I could sense eyes on me from that spot, but I decided to ignore my feeling and went back to my seat for the next session of lecture.
