" Stella wake up, I hear a helicopter." yelled Cash as he ran to the shore. He quickly pulled down the parachute tent and took it with him. Stella sat up, confused at first, then went after him. She fell hard on a tree branch. " Come on Stella, help me get this parachute spread out!" He yelled. Stella moaned. "Cash, I'm down. I'll be right there." She pulled herself up and limped to the beach. " Are you okay?" He asked, looking up at her. He was kneeling as he put rocks on the parachute to keep it from flying up. "Help me please, we only have one chance before they move on." He said. Stella nodded. She fought through the pain. " I'm coming." She said as she cried. Cash ran to the other side and spread out the parachute as Stella laid rocks on it to keep it flat. The wind was whipping it all around. Cash looked up. He saw the helicopter circling. He waved his arms. They didn't see him. The rain picked up and they turned back the other way. Cash watched as they moved away. " Wait, come back!" He felt so defeated. They walked back to the tree line. They had to leave the parachute spread out as a signal, they no longer had their precious tent. Stella began to make a brush shelter by layering branches over each other. It wasn't like their precious tent, but it would do. There were two walls of branches making an A frame. The weather got worse. Stella hugged Cash tightly as the rain came down. The wind whipped around them. Cash was crying. He was tired, hungry, and mentally done. Out of the corner of her eye, Stella saw something moving. She could see it was green and brown and very long. "Cash, your knife. I need it." She said quietly. " Oh, sure here you go." He said, thinking she was going to cut a branch out of the way. Stella got up and scooted herself out of the small lean to that she and Cash had been sheltering in. Stella followed the long, thick green and brown Burmese python as it slithered into the brush. She took her pointed stick and the small knife, taking a deep breath for courage, she stabbed that snake in the tail. It turned its long body and came at her. She screamed, then hopped up and hit it in it's head with her sharp spear before it could bite her. The snake hissed seeing her and tried to wrap itself around her legs. She hit it again, then stabbed it in the head over and over. It finally stopped moving after several more hits, Stella was breathing hard, her hair whipped around her face. Her clothing was soaking wet, but she was smiling. She just caught them dinner and lunch, and breakfast. All they needed was a fire. Stella dragged that long thick snake home, like a cat with a mouse, she threw it down on the ground at Cash's feet. He looked at it and then up at her. She was like a warrior princess. He grinned and pulled her inside, he kissed her. She gave him hope. " You killed that big old snake, all by yourself. Who the hell are you?" He laughed. She said," I'm your fiancé. I am your evertlything." She cuddled in his warm embrace, getting him all wet. " We need to make a fire." He said. Stella nodded. " Here, I found this." It was some dry moss she had tucked into her bra. I also saw a dry spot under a tree that has a bunch of downed branches. I'm going back out to get them. You cut the skin off of that guy and gut him." She said. He looked repulsed, but nodded in agreement. Cash did as instructed and built a small circle of wet rocks for the fire inside of the lean to. Stella limped back to Cash. Her leg was acting up. She threw the wood down and went back for more. Cash was almost depleted of energy, he had that headache again. Stella brought back the wood. She saw a small fire going now. "Cash, I have to get water now. Will you be okay? She said shivering. She saw that he was looking very tired and weak, pale even. " Here, take my shirt." He said removing his only shirt. " Not yet, when I get back, I will need a warm, dry hug." She smiled. He nodded as he stuck a thick chunk of snake on his spear and held it over the flames. Stella braved the weather once again, she limped through the brush and down to the spring. It was much larger and muddier now. She frowned. This water will make us sick. She noticed some large puddles of fresh rain water, she filled the bottle there, drank it all, then filled it again for Cash. " Stella, come back!" yelled Cash out into the rain. He was so worried about her. She had been gone for a long time. Stella could barely walk, she was going slow. Cash was just about to go after her, when he spotted her. She looked like a drowned rat. " Come here!" He yelled. She collapsed in his arms. Cash stripped her down and began to rub her skin. He put his dry shirt on her thin frame. "That smells amazing " She said shivering. The snake was crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. They both ate in silence. "This right here, this is the best thing I've ever eaten." Cash exclaimed. The food instantly revived them. They finished the snake and Cash cut a few more pieces, he was feeling energized now. Stella lay back and fell asleep, exhausted. It was a peaceful moment on a stormy day. Cash ate another piece of snake then pulled Stella to his arms and rubbed her sore leg, something he had done many times before. " Thank you for taking care of me, I love you baby." He kissed her now dry head. Stella held onto Cash. " I killed a damn snake and ate it." She laughed. They both laughed. This adventure they would tell all of the generations to come. The story of Stella Calloway, American heiress, snake killer. Cash told her she never looked more beautiful to him as he bent and kissed her. Stella was a mess. Her hair was matted, her fingers were dirty. She had soot on her eye brows from the smoke. She smiled. " If the other boys could see us now!" She laughed. They huddled in their little shelter, it wasn't much. To them it was home, for a few more days at least.
