Chapter 7: Cornered

859 Words
One of the girls walked up. She was about a head shorter than me but from her muscular build, I could tell she made up for it in strength. She pulled a hair tie out of her pocket, tying back her short brown hair into a ponytail before looking at Star and asking, “She's the one who hurt Brad?" “That's her," Star confirmed. The girl turned her face to me, smirking. “You're going down hybrid." Star stepped aside as she stepped forward. She c****d her fist back ready to sink her fist into my face when I grabbed her fist, twisting it back as she screamed in pain. I heard the other girls yell as they started to rush forward to join the fight. My eyes shifted to scarlet and I felt my fangs emerge in response to the approaching danger. I scanned the room, seeing nothing but werewolves coming at me from every angle. This was bad. I gulped, realizing there was no way out for me to run. I had to fight my way out, even if it seemed impossible. I felt a blow land in my side, wincing as I staggered back. I didn't have time to recover when a kick landed in my leg, buckling as I crashed to the ground. I felt myself being crowded in as I struggled to rise to my feet. I lunged forward, grabbing a leg and sinking my teeth into it. The leg flailed wildly and I heard it's owner scream in pain as she reached down to grab me. I grabbed her hand, pulling her down with me before rolling on top of her as she cried, clutching her leg. A few girls stepped back, terror in their eyes as they saw me with blood dripping from my mouth as the girl laid beside me screaming. I used their indecision to finally stand up. I was barely upright when I felt more blows hit me from every side, wincing in pain as I struggled to make it out of the crowd. In the corner of my eye I was surprised to notice Star, spectating from afar instead of taking part. I assumed she'd be the first to throw a punch. Battered and bloody, I decided to make a rash decision that I was sure to regret. In this state, they'd kill me. I had to shift. I'd only shifted a few times in my life, only in extreme situations to avoid the excruciating pain. But nothing could be worse than this. My body was starting to numb, overwhelmed by all the blows knocking into me at once. I retracted my fangs, tapping into my werewolf powers as I felt my bones start to break. The blows kept coming as I screamed in pain, overwhelmed by the amount of pain I was feeling. My tears flowed freely as I transformed into my werewolf form, my senses heightened even more. The pain was torturous, every broken bone, every punch, every kick bringing me closer to death. The agony was indescribable. After a few minutes, I had fully shifted. I dug my claws into the ground, howling loudly as the girls backed up and the crowd began to disperse. I was stunned to see other werewolves closing in on me in their forms. They must've seen me transforming and began shifting when I did. They pounced forward, baring their teeth as they went in for the kill. I was outnumbered and fear began to overwhelm my mind as I began to entertain the possibility of death. I shook my head, snapping out of it. This was not my first run in with death and I was not going to let it be my last. Even if it was, I was going out fighting. I searched around, noticing about 5 werewolves cornering me from different angles. I pinpointed the strongest, deciding to go after it. If I could defeat the strongest, maybe the others would be too scared to advance. I ran towards it, my canines sharp and ready to kill. We collided, clawing at one another but not able to make a solid hit. I shifted my attention for a split second as I felt one of the nearby werewolves ram into me. I c****d back my paw, ready to land a blow on the werewolf when I felt teeth sink into my stomach. I yelped in pain as I sank to the ground, rolling around in an effort to alleviate the hurt. I was so focused on my pain, I didn't notice as another hit landed in my side. I felt my resolve weakening as my injuries multiplied. I was starting to become dizzy, teetering on the brink of consciousness and unconsciousness when I heard a commanding growl that had all the girls scattering to the corners of the room. It was a low rumble but it was mighty enough to shake the room. I didn't have to see him to know who the owner of that hollow bellow belonged to. His viridescent eyes were the last thing I saw before I once again returned to darkness.
