Chapter 5: Tensions Rise

901 Words
He scowled, turning his face away from me but not budging an inch. “Either fight me or step aside," I repeated, exasperation clear in my sharp tone. Sighing deeply, he lifted his fingers up to his mouth before letting out a long whistle. My eyes widened in surprise, looking around to see a few people emerging from the shadows from every direction. It was no use. I was trapped in. They had every exit covered. I looked back at Abel, noticing his eyes wandering in a clear attempt to avoid my gaze. “Fine, have it your way," I said nonchalantly. One of the werewolves who approached from the shadows grabbed my arm roughly, pulling me forward. I used my foot to knee him in the balls as hard as I could before pulling him closer and sinking my fangs deep into his neck. He screamed in pain, clawing at me desperately in an attempt to push me off of him. I could see the others who had emerged from the shadows to subdue me from the corner of my eye, frozen in shock as they watched me. Before I knew what was happening, I felt something heavy collide into the back of my head, my vision blurring as everything became dark. *** “You're up!" I opened my eyes slowly, wincing as I felt throbbing pain of an oncoming migraine start to radiate throughout my head. I brought my hand up to the back of my head, feeling the thin cloth of a bandage and feeling the dried blood stuck within my curls. “You should drink," a voice offered, shoving a cup of water in my face. Not recognizing her voice, I squinted up at the blonde haired girl looking down at me. Her face was blank, neither welcoming or uninviting. Convinced it wasn't poison in the cup, I grabbed the water, downing it in a few gulps before pushing myself up to a seated position on the bed. “What happened?" I asked, wobbling slightly as I stood up. I looked around, finding myself in what seemed to be an infirmary. The room was plain, beds stacked side by side throughout the room with medical tools scattered about. “I dunno. I was just told to watch you until you woke up. Are you hungry?," she replied. “Why are you asking?" I said, narrowing my eyes at her suspiciously. “You've been out a whole day, I thought you'd be hungry," she pointed out, raising an eyebrow in confusion. “I'm fine. I have to go," I said, looking around for a nearby exit before spotting one a couple feet away. I started walking quickly towards it before grabbing the knob and pulling it open. “You're not supposed to-" she started. I rammed right into Star and Leo, who were posted outside. Before I knew what was happening, I felt a strong blow come crashing into my stomach. I coughed, clutching my stomach in pain as my bruised ribs throbbed. “You b****!" Star yelled, advancing towards me once again before Leo pulled her back. “Star, calm down," Leo reasoned, holding on to her as she struggled. “You saw what she did to Brad. Why are you defending her?" She screamed at Leo, her eyes blazing indignantly. I watched them silently as Star raged on. Brad must've been the werewolf I attacked. I reached my hand up to my head, suddenly remembering what happened. I must've been hit from the back. “I'm not on her side. You heard the council. We're keeping her alive for now," Leo reminded her. “I don't care what the council wants. She's not worth it," she spat, glaring daggers at me. “You should be mad at yourself, not me," I said. “What did you say?!" she asked, fire reigniting in her eyes. “If you would've let me go, I would've gotten away. If I got away, your friend wouldn't have gotten hurt. So if you really think about it, it's your fault," I said, watching as both of their faces twisted into pure animosity. After hearing my words, Leo abandoned his former resolve, letting go of Star as she came rushing towards me. I felt my eyes shift, turning scarlet as she got nearer. Before she could reach me, Abel appeared seemingly out of nowhere and planted himself between me and her. “Abel, she-" she started, her eyes glossy with tears. “She will pay for hurting Brad, I promise you that," he said, squeezing her shoulder in comfort before turning back to me. He looked me up and down, pure frost in his eyes as his sea green eyes burrowed into my soul. He turned, not bothering to say a word to me as he walked ahead. Anger flashed through me, the icy look in his eyes buried in my memory. Who the hell did he think he was to judge me? They're the ones who kidnapped ME for crying out loud. What angered me even more was the guilt that was beginning to creep inside of me. Why did I feel guilty? I didn't care about him, about any of them. I did what I had to do to survive like always. I clenched my fists as I watched him stroll ahead. I had to get out of this place.
